Chapter 8

main attractions don’t blend in

Emerald

wednesday night

Rodney:

May I ask something? I’m just curious.

Me:

Sure.

Rodney:

Why the black bracelet?

Me:

I like blending in.

Rodney:

Main attractions don’t blend in, Emmy.

Let’s try this again. lol

Me:

I’m far from the main attraction, but thank you.

It takes the pressure off.

I don’t have to worry about interacting with anyone and can just be. You know?

Rodney:

Were you always this way?

Me:

No. My ex wasn’t as open to exploring my interests as I was to his. I left to find a partner deserving of me, but I’ve been hiding thanks to the bracelet.

Until…

Rodney:

Until what?

I’m right here with you.

Me:

Until you saw me. I was okay with being invisible until you saw me.

Rodney:

What if I told you I noticed you long before that night?

Me:

When?

Rodney:

You were at the club, thinking you were invisible, but it’s impossible not to see you. I just couldn’t speak because of that damn bracelet.

What.

Me:

Are you serious?

Rodney:

I am. I noticed you a long time ago, but you finally saw me. I’m the lucky one.

Me:

Careful, now.

Your flirting may give me the wrong idea.

And we don’t want that.

Rodney:

What if there was nothing to misinterpret? I’m interested in you, Emerald. I’ve had time to come to terms with this, but you’re new here, so take your time. I don’t mind waiting.

Just some food for thought. Good night.

Me:

Good night, Daddy.

Rodney:

Daddy, huh? Careful, now.

And don’t think I didn’t peep you using my lingo. lol

Me:

What if I don’t want to be careful?

Rodney:

Depends.

Me:

On what?

Rodney:

If you come see me at Lilith’s Friday night. 8 o'clock. Only if you’re up for it.

Me:

I’ll think about it.
