Chapter 59

The pain medication the doctor gave me kept me groggy.

After I finished the soup, Remy helped me shower and change my dressing. He was so gentle and tender. I felt like silk in his care. After slipping on one his of T-shirts and taking my meds, I was out like a light.

I don't know how long I was sleep, but when I cracked my eyes open the sun was setting and the room was darker. I tried to climb out of bed to get myself to the bathroom, but as I soon as I planted one foot on the floor, pain shot through my body that made me grit my teeth.

"Fuck," I exhaled sharply a cold sweat breaking out on my skin. Tears sprung to my eyes. "Baby, I need you!" I called out breathlessly.

I heard fast, heavy footsteps.

"Gianna?" Remy rushed into the room so quickly his voice came out panicked.

His eyes landed on me half bent over beside the bed clutching my stomach and his face dropped instantly.

"Baby, no—" Before I could even respond he was already at my side.

His arm wrapped firmly around my waist while his other hand cupped my face gently.

"What happened?" he asked softly but I could hear the fear underneath it.

"I was trying to go to the bathroom," I said through clenched teeth. "I thought I could make it."

"Beautiful…" he sighed shakily. "I told you tell me if you needed me."

"I didn't wanna keep bothering you."

"Bothering me?" he repeated like the thought offended him. "Gianna, I would wipe your ass right now if you needed me to."

I stared at him. Then snorted a laugh before instantly regretting it. "Ow! Fuck!"

He smiled despite his concern. "My hardheaded girl." Without another word, he carefully scooped me into his arms. The movement made me whimper softly against his chest. "I know, baby. I know." He kissed the top of my head repeatedly while carrying me toward the bathroom. "I got you."

He sat me gently on the toilet before crouching in front of me.

I looked at him. "Are you gonna watch me pee?"

"Yes," he said seriously.

I smirked shaking my head. "I can't go with you watching me. Just step out."

Reluctantly, he did. He must have been listening, because as soon as I was done, he poked his head in. "You need help wiping?"

I smothered my laughter shaking my head. "I think I got it."

"You’re laughing and I'm serious."

"I know!" I giggled softly. I wiped myself and he helped me up, adjusting the T-shirt. As I was washing my hands we heard the front door opening.

"Daddy! I'm home!"

My heart soared and I got so excited I hurried up and quickly dried my hands

"There goes little man," he smiled. "Coming, Melo! Wait in the living room for me!" He called out. He turned back to me. "I'ma get you back to bed and then I'll bring him to you."

I smiled nodding. He helped me into the bed, and I adjusted the covers around me before clicking on the lamp. I knew I was going to cry when I saw him. I grabbed the rainbow marble off the nightstand and held it in my hand, waiting.

Minutes later, I heard them approaching. Remy first. Then Melo poked his little head in. My tears were instant. "My little handsome," I gushed holding out my arms. "C'mere, sweetheart."

But instead of running into my arms as I expected, he paused at the doorway watching me.

"It's okay, buddy." Remy crouched down to his eye level. "You scared?"

Melo nodded, wiping his eyes.

My heart broke. "Melo—baby, I'm okay. You can come say hi," I encouraged him gently.

"Just be gentle." Remy took his hand.

"Okay." Melo whispered; his fist curled to his chest.

Remy slowly led him in.

As soon as he got to the bedside, he burst into tears. "GG!" he cried reaching for me carefully.

"My baby." Tears flooded my eyes. "Come here, handsome."

Remy lifted him up and he climbed onto the side of the bed cautiously like he was scared he might hurt me. The second his little arms wrapped around my neck; emotion wrecked me completely.

"I thought you died," he sobbed into my shoulder.

"No, baby." I cried softly holding him tighter ignoring the pain in my stomach. "I'm still here. GG's okay."

He pulled back sniffling hard, his little face was soaked with tears as he stared at me sadly.

"You got a hole in your tummy?"

"A little one," I admitted softly.

Melo looked devastated. "Did it hurt?"

"A little." I nodded with a sniffle. I let out a slow breath trying to keep my emotions in check for him. "But I'm doing so much better."

His lip trembled. "I don't want nobody hurting you again." Fresh tears spilled down my cheeks.

"Oh, honey…" I ran my fingers through his curls gently. "You're so sweet. Nobody will hurt me again."

He looked down at my hand and gasped softly seeing the rainbow marble. "You kept it!"

"Of course I did." I smiled through my tears opening my hand. "My favorite boy gave it to me."

His whole face lit up. "I told Daddy it would make you feel better."

"It did." My voice cracked. "It helped me come back to y'all."

Melo curled carefully against my side resting his head against my chest. "I missed you," he whispered sadly.

"I missed you too, baby. So much."

Remy moved closer sitting on the edge of the bed near us. His hand rubbed slowly over Melo's back while his eyes stayed locked on me. They were full of so much love, it overwhelmed me.

"I have to tell you something, Melo." He lifted his head to look up at me. "When I was sleep. I saw your mommy."

Remy drew a sharp breath because I hadn't told him yet.

"What did she say?" Melo stared up at me eyes wide with wonder.

"She told me what you said that day in the closet. That she sent me to love you and your daddy big. And for us to be together as a family."

He gasped. "I told you, GG!"

"You did." I gave him a watery smile.

Remy wiped underneath his eyes with his knuckles turning his face like he didn't want either of us seeing how emotional he was getting.

"She was beautiful too," I continued rocking him in my arms

His little face brightened proudly. "I know."

"She loves you very much."

"I love her too." Melo pressed his little hand against his chest. "Daddy says she always with us in here."

"She is, sweetie." I smiled gently. My eyes lifted toward Remy. He looked wrecked emotionally, but peaceful too. I reached my hand toward him silently. He took it intertwining our fingers before bringing my knuckles to his lips.

"What else she say?" Remy asked quietly.

I swallowed past the emotion in my throat. "She told me I was safe now." My eyes held his. "And that you would take care of me."

"Every day for the rest of my life, beautiful," he vowed. All I could do was smile. "You hear that, little man?" he asked Melo softly. "Your mommy out here helping Daddy get his girl."

Melo giggled. "Good job, Mommy," he said proudly toward the ceiling. "So, you staying home with us now, GG?"

My breath caught.

Home.

Here with him and his daddy.

I looked over at Remy. He was watching me. Waiting. Softly, I brushed my fingers across Melo's hair and kissed the top of his head. "Yeah, little handsome," I whispered emotionally. "GG's home."
