Chapter 9-Getting rid of Audrey

Jonathan's POV…

We arrived at my house from the engagement party. The car came to halt inside the garage and Richard came from the front seat but I didn't budge. I sat there in silence and recounted everything that happened.

“When I say you're selfish and arrogant, I'm right. Not only that, you're a jerk and an asshole”

Her exact words rang in my ear. After she stomped out, I thought about my actions and words and I had to admit that I was wrong. I was furious that she told a third party about the contract.

I let my anger take control and I acted like…

‘an asshole’

I didn't know she had left until one of my investors asked to see her. Richard and I looked everywhere for her but couldn't find her. The security was the one who told us that she left with Lena. We had to come up with an excuse that she started feeling sick and she had to leave.

“Sir, you've been sitting in the car for some time now. You have to at least go inside and take off your clothes. Ms Willows will be fine" Richard said.

I sighed. “It's nothing. You should go home. We have our investors from France coming in tomorrow. We have to be there on time"

“Okay sir" he said reluctantly before leaving.

The cool night breeze couldn't calm my nerves as I sat outside in the sit out.

A lot of things clouded my mind and disturbed me. I had promised myself never to get involved with a woman. I didn't even have time for myself, not to talk of another person...and I knew women demanded a lot of attention.

Now, I'm in a fake engagement with Audrey.

The ringing of my phone brought me out of my train of thoughts.I shook my head as though that would take the thoughts out of my head.

I looked at my phone and it was Maya calling me.

I dropped the phone on the table and let it ring. It rang a few more times before it went silent. I didn't want any more females in my life. Just when I thought she had given up, I received a message.

I checked my phone and it was from her.

"Why aren't you picking your phone?" her message read.

I didn't want any more complications in my life and Maya, she was a bundle of problems herself.

Standing up, I sighed and retreated into my room. I tossed the book I was reading on the table and fell on my bed.

“I said let me in. Open this gate now. I want to see him. Do you know who I am? I will surely get you fired”

I was taking my coffee when I heard shouting from outside.

I went downstairs to see who was causing such commotion.

Was it Audrey?

No. Audrey is more refined than that.

On reaching the outside and approaching the gate where my men stood, defiant of her actions, the lady quickly alighted from the car.

That was when I saw who it was.

Maya?

I stood there in shock, looking at her. What was she doing here? The last I checked, which was what she told me, she was in the UK.

"Hey baby. Why are your men keeping me out?" She sulked. Oh wow! She looked like an overgrown baby when she did that...and who was her baby?

Maya was the girl I grew up with. Her father was mom's high school boyfriend, later turned best friend. We attended the same schools and if it were possible, would have lived together.

She was too persuasive and ignorant of the fact that humans needed personal space, she always clouded my space with her perky nature. I wondered why my mom liked her.

"That is so rude and disrespectful. You should fire them" she said in a commanding tone.

"They're not doing their job well" she mumbled but I heard her anyway.

If there was anything I couldn't stand, it was being told what to do. I could take that from my mother alone, no one else.

"You won't come to my house and dictate how things should be done or who stays" I said in a harsh tone.

Who exactly did she think she was?

"No no no baby" she said as she approached the iron gate. "I...I didn't mean it like that. I..."

"What are you doing here?" I asked, not giving her a chance to say anything.

She looked at me in surprise. Her mouth hung open slightly as she scoffed.

"I clearly told you last night that I was coming today, to your house" she gestured towards my house.

I furrowed my brows.

"I texted you yesterday that I will be coming this morning" she glared at me as she spoke.

It clicked. I saw her first message yesterday and didn't bother going through the rest.

"So why did you come then?' I asked, still not bothered if she informed me she was coming or not.

I continued. "I didn't..."

"Can you at least let me in?" She cut me short.

"No one dares interrupt me while I'm talking” I said with an icy finality.

“Even me?” She asked, and pretended to be sad.

“You're not an exception" I said, my voice strong.

She obviously felt insulted because she bent her head and glanced at the security men. She didn't expect me to say that to her in their presence.

"Okay. I'm sorry babe" she feigned a smile to mask her embarrassment.

Babe. What exactly was going on in her mind?

“Can you let me in now? We can't have a proper conversation if I'm outside" She pleaded in a low voice.

“Not until you tell me why you're here"

She took a deep breath.

What!!! Is she referring to our Audrey? I don't know for you guys, but I love Audrey
