Chapter 16-Babysitting Audrey
Jonathan's POV…
Her father?
“What about him and why is that date so significant?” I asked.
Lena stared blankly at me. "Nothing. Forget I said anything”
I frowned.
"You'll get me in trouble one day” she mumbled as she slapped her mouth twice.
"I'm not a fool” I pressed on. "I know it's not nothing”
She sighed. "If you want to know anything, then you'll ask Audrey yourself. You of all people should know that she wouldn't tell you anything" she laughed.
“Here. Help me with her"
I was hesitant because she had withheld the information I needed. But I still succumbed anyway. I put Audrey's right arm around my neck with my arm around her waist and carried her while Lena carried her shoes.
She didn't come out with any bag.
The strong smell of the alcohol filled my nose and it irritated me. I wasn't a fan of alcohol, so having her beside me with that stench made me uncomfortable.
I opened the passenger's side and I laid her there. I tried putting her down but her arm was around my neck and she held tight.
I placed my right hand by the seat to support myself as I struggled to release myself from her grip, but I still ended up falling on top of her.
For a moment, I froze.
My face was buried in her neck. Her breath against my skin was warm. My hair got tangled in her necklace. I tried removing it and my body pressed against her. This whole situation was just too awkward.
In the process, I perceived the flavoury scent of her hair. It smelt nice.
I finally detangled it and pushed my body up from hers. I shut the door and went to open my door.
“Make sure she drinks this tea tonight" Lena handed something in a white bag to me. “And give this one to her first thing in the morning. It will help with her hangover and prevent any funny or awkward situations”
I collected the bags from her and nodded. I kept them on the next seat.
"Take good care of her. Promise me” she pressured.
I looked at her with uncertainty. Why should I be responsible for her?
"Sure. Whatever” I responded and entered the car. As soon as I shut the door, I drove off.
---
I pulled up once I was inside the compound. It was already late in the evening. I never go out alone once it's 6pm. I could get ambushed or kidnapped.
I had business rivals everywhere, rivals who were ready to kidnap me and get a huge ransom or at worst… kill me.
I came down from the car and went to the passenger's side of the car. I opened the door and stared at her.
“You made me risk my life just to come pick you up” I sighed.
I knew it was going to be a problem to bring her out of the car and take her upstairs.
I carried her out of the car and all the way upstairs. She wasn't that heavy. She was a model, she needed to maintain weight.
I pushed open the door of her room with my leg as soon as I had reached her wing. I laid her on the bed and turned around to go.
Wait. The tea.
I headed back downstairs and got the bags Lena gave me from the car.
I went to the kitchen and got a glass and filled it with warm water.
I headed back to her room and poured the tea into the water and stirred it.
“Is this how it's supposed to be done? Am I supposed to put the tea before the water?” I asked myself.
Whatever.
"Hey" I tapped her. “Your manager said you need to take this”
She was too drunk and sleepy.
I had to hold her up, awkwardly trying to get her to swallow the tea Lena insisted on. It was a messy, frustrating process, but I finally managed to get her to drink it.
I made to leave but the sound of her breathing stopped me. It was rugged.
I turned around and saw how suffocating her clothes made her.
I looked at her sleeping position. I contemplated what to do.
“She'll sort herself in the morning. She's an adult, she won't suffocate” I muttered.
I didn't want to think of what would happen in the morning if I removed her clothes. Her reaction was what I wasn't ready for.
I'm not doing that.
I need to rest as well. The investors will be coming in tomorrow.
---
The next morning…
It's been two hours since I've been awake working, yet Audrey had not moved at all.
I spent the night in the visitor's room, then a few hours to dawn, I slipped into her room. My mom was still around anyway. She was still in the same position she was when I dropped her on the bed.
I even intentionally put on loud music to know if she would wake up to it, since she loved really loud music, but she didn't stir.
I checked the time.
7:35am and she was yet to get up from sleep.
I went closer to the bed and put my hands near her nose to feel her breathing, she was still breathing.
I heaved in relief. She was still alive. For a moment, I thought she was maybe… dead.
I needed to go to work. I was already running late all because I was trying to get her to wake up.
I had to call her manager to come stay with her. I can't be here babysitting her.
I dialed her number.
“I need you to come over to the house" I said immediately she connected.
“What's the problem? Is she having a bad hangover? I asked you to give her the hangover drink"
“It's more than that," I paused.
“What's the matter?" She asked. I could tell she was tense but was trying to hide it.
“She's not awake yet" I announced.
“What?" She asked. “What does that mean?"
“She's been asleep all night and hasn't even stirred a bit. I've tried waking her, but nothing seems to be working"
“Wait. You gave her the tea, right?" She asked.
That question annoyed me. “Of course. You asked me too"
I was irritated. I've been here all morning trying to wake sleeping beauty and this manger of hers is asking stupid questions.
“Okay. You followed the instructions and gave her the right dosage, am I right?" I noticed how her voice changed to uncertainty.
Was there a particular dosage?
"What dosage?” I asked.
"Don't tell me you didn't go through the leaflet" she sounded like I was supposed to know there was something inside for me to read.
“No" was my reply.
“What was the quantity you gave her?"
“I emptied the entire bag"
“What" she screamed.
I jerked at her response and rubbed my ear. That was too loud.
“You're not supposed to. One or two spoons is enough" she said.
“Why didn't you inform me?" I sighed. “What is the consequence for taking that quantity?"
“She's going to sleep for three long days and you'll be the one to take care of her because you caused it”
My eyes widened.
Woah ??. Who saw that coming? I didn't. I just love Audrey and Jonathan. Their chemistry is soooooo goooood.
