Chapter 23-Sharing a bed together

Audrey's POV...

"Lena, has anyone ever done something that hurt them but they still did it just for your sake or well being?" I asked Lena.

She came and sat beside me on the bed.

"Yeah" she nodded slowly. "Jesus did that"

I smiled. "You're right"

"But speaking of human beings, no. No one has ever done something like that for me" she added.

I let out a sigh. "What do you think their mom sacrificed?"

She shook her head. "I don't know"

I bit my lips and tapped my finger on the bed.

"I'm not sure about this" I looked at her. "But I read an article about him. That was when I ran a background check on him, shortly after the scandal. The article mentioned something about his mother having a heart disease and it also said she developed it after conceiving him"

"What kind of heart disease?" I asked.

"I'm not sure. The comments were filled with mixed responses. Though most of them said it was not true"

"Do you think it has something to do with the sacrifice Alexa mentioned?"

She scratched the back of her head. "I don't know how reliable and legit the source of the article was, so I don't know what to think or not" she concluded.

I was hearing faint voices from the living room.

"This past month I've known him, he seems calm and collected... unfazed and doesn't panic over situations. You get what I mean?" She looked at me.

I didn't respond.

"Just like when the scandal happened, he didn't seem affected by it. He proposed a solution immediately..."

"So what are you saying?" I interrupted. What was she getting at?

"For this particular thing to actually make him lose his cool and act the way he did, then it's deeper than we know"

She moved closer to me and held my hands.

"I know you had a bad view of men because of your father and that must have traumatized your childhood and early teenage years. The same could go for Jonathan. We don't know his story yet, but I know it has an effect on him"

I shifted uncomfortably. "Why are you saying all this?"

"You both should stop acting like you're sworn enemies and try to get along. You've never had any real friends, except me. Jonathan can.."

"No. No. No" I closed my eyes and shook my head. "I know what you're trying to say. It can't happen. Jonathan and I... the only relationship we can ever have is a fake relationship. Have you seen his guts?"

"That's the problem," she spat and stood. "You're always finding problems and issues with each other. If you keep observing each other's flaws then you'll never get along"

She sat beside me and held my hands again. "Audrey, I want you to be happy"

"But I'm happy. I have God, a flourishing career, I have you and my mom. I'm super happy"

"You're always focused on work and deals, you don't pay attention to anything else" the concern was visible in her voice.

"I understand your concern and I'm truly grateful for that but..."

There was a knock at the door. I looked up. Lena and I exchanged glances.

"Come in," I said.

The door opened slightly and Alexa poked her head inside.

"Umm... I want to..."

"Why are you standing by the door like a criminal? Come inside" Lena said.

Alexa stepped inside the room. Her hands were folded at her back.

"I want to say thank you for everything. For calling me out during the party and for standing up for me when Jonathan was mad at me"

"It's nothing," I said.

"I don't regret admiring you at all and I'm so happy you're by Jonathan's side"

I coughed slightly. Why was everyone talking about Jonathan?

"I'm also sorry for his behaviour this evening. I hope you two patch things up. In order not to aggravate things, he'll be getting another room. By morning, tempers must have cooled"

I nodded. Of course he had to get a place to stay the night. I didn't force him to come all the way to Paris.

"I'll leave after he's gotten a room," she added.

"It's late already. It's not safe to be out by this time" I said.

"Don't worry. My friends are coming to pick me up. I'll be good"

I nodded.

She lingered by the door, and picked at her fingers.

"Is everything okay?" I asked.

"Can I give you a hug?"

I looked at Lena. "Sure" I stood up.

She grinned widely and came and embraced me.

"I look forward to seeing you," I said as soon as she let go.

"Bye" she waved and left the room.

"She's not as bad as her brother" I said and turned to face Lena.

She squeezed her mouth and gave me a knowing look.

"Oh sorry"

I left the room and went to the living room. Jonathan's cologne filled the air. I sat on the couch.

Wait... the seat was hot. This must have been where Jonathan sat. I leaned towards the couch and smelt it a bit. It smelled of Jonathan. His masculine scent mixed with sweat.

I jerked back, heat rushing to my cheeks. What was I doing? I shook my head, trying to dislodge his scent from my senses and moved to lock the door.

I turned on the DND features. I didn't want any attendant disturbing my sleep. Just when I had locked it, I heard a knock.

Who could it be?

Lena came out of the room. She must have heard the knock. She raised her brows questioningly.

I looked through the digital door viewer and saw who it was. My eyes widened. Why was he back here?

I turned to Lena. "Jonathan," I muttered.

My heart increased its pace as I pulled the handle and opened the door. I came face to face with Jonathan.

"The hotel is fully booked. Every suite, every room. There's nothing" he said with irritation.

"So..."

"Don't worry. You're welcome to spend the night here" Lena chirped in.

I turned and stared at her in disbelief. Did she just say that?

Jonathan looked at me, as though waiting for my approval. He looked annoyed.

I sighed and moved away from the door.

"I will make things clear" I said as soon as he had settled on the chair. "I'll take the bed and you can take wherever you want"

He frowned.

Wait a minute. Did he just frown at me?

"I only sleep on a bed. That's non-negotiable" he replied.

He was supposed to be pleading, but he wasn't even sounding like someone who was in a situation and needed help.

I wanted to give him a piece of my mind before Lena spoke up.

"It's alright you guys. It's nothing to fight about. There's always a solution to every problem"

I folded my arms. "And what's the solution to this?"

I wasn't expecting what she said next.

"You guys will have to share the bed" she dropped the bomb. "It's a king-sized bed, so there should be no issue"

I stared at her in disbelief. What was she up to?

Ho ho ho. What exactly is Lena up to? I hope you enjoyed the chapter you guys. Thanks for reading.
