Chapter 25-He said thank you

Audrey's POV...

I sat beside Jonathan on the bed. I had placed a towel dampened in warm water on his forehead to reduce the fever.

Lena had gone out to get medication from a pharmacy.

I looked at him. He was sleeping.

"Why did you come all the way here to ruin my plans? Now I'm forced to take care of you." I hissed as I looked away, then looked at him. "But I won't let you stop me from attending that gala"

Nothing was going to get in the way of my attending that gala... not even him.

I heard the door of the suite click and I knew Lena must be back.

I stood up, and after glancing at him once more, left the room.

Lena was in the living room. She had a white cellophane in her hand. I shut the door quietly.

"Were you able to get any medication?" I asked as I sat on the couch.

She heaved. "Not really. Most pharmacies I visited couldn't prescribe anything for me because I couldn't tell exactly what was wrong with him"

"Maybe we should ask for a prescription from the hospital," I suggested. "They're bound to give us something and we can give the symptoms as headache and fever"

"First of all, they won't give anything unless they've seen the patient, then secondly, if by chance, you use your influence to get a prescription, if it eventually gets out that you're giving him treatment without taking him to the hospital, your image and that of the hospital's will be in shambles"

"Your status may not save us here" she concluded.

"So, what do we do now?" I threw my hands in the air.

"He doesn't want to get treated by any other doctor. What if he dies in our hands? Then we'll be in bigger trouble" I added.

She came and sat beside me. "I don't think it's something serious. I just think he's tired or stressed. He flew all the way from New York to Paris and entered a fit of argument with his sister. That's a lot"

"Whatever. But I'm not staying here to look after him this evening. I'm going for the gala" I announced.

"About that" she scratched the back of her head. "There's been change of plans"

"What kind of change?" I asked. I knew it was something bad.

"The gala has been postponed till three days"

"What"

"Earlier, Ivana Haven, your co top model called me.

That was when I left and you were looking for me.

I met with her and some other supermodels.

They got modeling and brand ambassadorship offers and it's today and tomorrow, so they wouldn't be able to make it for the gala.

So, the best alternative was to shift the date"

"And they did all that without giving me prior information?" I asked. "There is no way I'm agreeing to that. My say matters the most and if I say no... then it's no,"

"Actually, they tried contacting me earlier but that was when, you know what happened yesterday happened. It was this morning they were able to reach me. They're asking that you consider them and agree to change of dates"

"So, you're saying I'm stuck with Jonathan for three whole days?" I asked.

"Well, they are willing to make your three days stay comfortable and fun"

"Nothing they're willing to offer will give me so much comfort"

"A reservation at the beach. Also, a ticket to the biggest cinema in the whole of France to watch TV shows and series"

I nodded slowly.

"That's not all, they've reserved a luxury collection of clothes, shoes and bags you can try out. And they got you VIP access to VIP treatment and luxury beauty skincare services, like spa treatment, facials and pedicures... you also get a hair makeover" she said.

"That's enticing," I smiled. "Not that I can't afford any of that, but it feels great when someone does that for you" I paused. "I've not gotten my hair done in France, I only do that Dubai, but I think it's worth a chance"

"So, you agree?" She asked.

"Of course. They've outdone themselves. Looks like they've been planning for this a long time, but I appreciate their effort. What's my first luxury and VIP treatment?" I asked.

"Today, you go to the beach and later on, hair makeover," she said.

"Great" I chirped happily. "Let's get ready then"

"You're forgetting something," she said.

"What?" I asked and she looked at the door of the room.

"Oh no" I groaned. "I'm not forfeiting any of these because of him. I'm going. You know what, I'll call Alexa to come take care of him"

"It's not right. She believes you're his girlfriend and asking her to come take care of him while you're out there receiving VIP treatment isn't ideal. It could harm your reputation if it gets out"

"So, I should let go of everything?"

"No, just think about it," she said.

"I have" I laughed. "And I've decided to go"

She opened her mouth to say something, but then, we heard Jonathan coughing from inside.

We rushed inside the room.

He was in a sitting position. I rushed to him. "Are you okay?"

"I need some water," he said.

Lena rushed out and got a bottle of water and a glass. She poured him some water and handed it over to him.

He took it from her and had a good drink. His face looked dull, like the colour drained from his face.

He placed the glass on the bedside table and wanted to stand up.

He swayed and I held him.

"I need to go back. I can't stay here" he muttered.

"That's not safe for you. You're not in a good condition, how are you going to go back?" Lena asked.

He removed his hand from my hold and tried standing on his own. "I'll go. Richard will pick me up" he said and started walking towards the door.

"Go then, but be well assured that whatever happens to you, we'll not be held responsible" I said from behind.

"You ungrateful jerk. We've been taking care of you since morning, you stayed the night here and you woke up, all you could say was that you wanted to go back. Couldn't you have at least said thank you?" I added.

I sighed and turned to Lena. "And you were telling me to forfeit everything for an ungrateful jerk" I scoffed.

He didn't say anything, but kept walking. I was fuming. He was ignoring me. I sat on the bed and watched his back.

He stopped by the door, his hand on the doorframe. He groaned and then the next thing, he collapsed to the floor.

Lena rushed to him on the floor. "Audrey, I think he passed out"

"I don't care. He wants to go back to New York, then he should go" I looked away.

She put her hands under his nose. "His breathing is slow"

"Lena, save yourself the stress. I don't care" I folded my arms over my chest. "That's what happens to people who are ungrateful"

"Audrey please, you're not that mean. Don't let Jonathan change you. You can settle scores later. What if he dies?"

"Why am I always the one being considerate while he acts however he wants. It's to my detriment and I'm not doing it this time" I sighed.

She must have seen I was not yielding, so she rushed out of the room to get her phone.

Jonathan was there, sprawled on the floor. His hands started shivering and vibrating. I tried ignoring him, but I couldn't. Lena was alright, I shouldn't let Jonathan change me.

Reluctantly, I moved to the floor and held his head as I placed it on my lap. He was still burning up.

Lena came back inside. "I've called a medical team. They're on their way"

"His hands were vibrating," I said. "I'm not a medical practitioner, but I think this is an allergy. I've seen this same symptoms several times in reality and TV shows"

"We have to wait till they get here," she said.

I looked at him. I didn't want him to die, so we could settle scores later. But why did I feel so affected by his condition?

The medical team arrived soon after and after examining Jonathan and running some tests, they affirmed that it was an allergy and then it triggered the fever.

Lena and I exchanged glances.

"What allergy is that?" I asked.

"Did he have some wine in the past twenty four hours?" The doctor asked.

Lena and I nodded. "He did. Last night"

"Then, that's it. He has a mild sulfite sensitivity and it was present in the wine and that triggered the fever and other symptoms. But there's something else we couldn't decipher. We need more equipment for that. It seems it's a health issue"

"Um.." Lena cut in. "That won't be necessary. But will he be okay?"

"Yes, as long as he takes his medication and eats healthy food, then he'll recover quickly"

"Thank you" I appreciated as they left.

I sat on the bed, beside him. Was that why he didn't receive treatment from other doctors other than his? Because he has a health condition and he doesn't want people to know about it.

I laughed softly. "You forced me to take that wine yesterday so you could get answers, but ended up risking your life"

I covered him properly with the duvet and made to leave, but he held my right hand.

I turned slowly and looked at him, his eyes opened slightly.

"Thank you," he said softly. "I'm not an ungrateful jerk"

I stood there frozen and my lips parted slightly. He said thank you. He actually did.

I smiled and nodded.

He closed his eyes but his hand didn't leave mine. I had to sit back on the bed and wait for him to fall asleep.

He must have a lot of issues and troubles and that must be what turned him into what he was. Now, I'm willing to look past his arrogant self and know the person inside.

Aww, that's so sweet of Audrey. I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter. Stay tuned for more.
