Chapter 36-Try not to get pregnant
Audrey's POV...
There was silence as Maya peered into my face to know my reaction.
Silence... then... I started laughing.
Her brows furrowed in confusion. "What is so funny?" She said with gritted teeth.
"Did you really think I was going to fall for that?" I asked in between laughter. "You should try again with something better,"
She squinted her eyes and glared at me. "Don't think you've won. Jonathan still doesn't know something about you. I bet he'll never even look at you again not to talk of love you, once he finds out,"
I gave her a nonchalant look.
"You think I don't know?" She scoffed. "I know about your background. The way your mom used your father..."
My eyes grew wide in anger as soon as she mentioned that.
"And now," she looked me up and down as she rested by the counter. "You're doing the same with Jonathan. You want to make him believe that you love him so you'll dig his gold... just like your miserable mother did..."
Slap.
Her eyes grew wide at my actions, heat radiating from her cheeks as they reddened.
"You don't talk about my mother that way," I warned, my voice low.
I closed my eyes and fisted my hands, trying to contain my anger.
"So you were the one who sent them? The ladies?" I asked. I should have known.
"That's just a tip of the iceberg of what I am capable of" she moved towards me slowly.
"Stay away from Jonathan. He's not for you. Whatever you have going on with him, you had better end it because next time, it wouldn't just be in a hotel, the internet will be bustling with it"
I tilted my head to one side and covered up whatever distance remained. "You try too hard love" I chuckled. "I dare you, do as you've said. You seem to have forgotten who I am. I am Audrey Willows. No one tramples on me"
I stepped back a bit. The shock visible on her face as her mouth parted open.
"The very next time you speak about my mother in that way in my presence, you're so going to regret ever knowing me,"
I picked my hat and glasses from the table and turned to go. Suddenly, she started laughing.
"You just made my plan go so perfectly," she said from behind.
I stopped by the door and turned around slowly.
"You're not so smart, you know," she took off her glasses. "You missed this," she said as she raised the glasses in front of me.
"These are camera glasses and guess what, every single threat you made now and the slap were recorded,"
My heart skipped a beat. That was very risky of me. If that gets out, then my image will...
"I'll forward everything to Jonathan. He's going to see just how harsh and evil his 'Audrey' is" she smiled like she had won some battle.
I lowered my head and smiled to myself. She was indeed brainless. Here was an opportunity she could use against me, but all she could think about was ruining my relationship with Jonathan.
"Oh sweetheart," I feigned pity. "Your action just now shows how much you lack love. Let me tell you a bit about love,"
I faced her properly and leaned by the door.
"Go ahead and send it," I said lightly. "When a man loves a woman, he doesn't count her mistakes. He stands behind her." I smirked.
"You'll actually be doing me a favour because my actions will be seen as something cute and adorable to the man who loves me," I smiled widely and she fumed, her chest rising and falling.
"Go find someone to love you so you'll get what I mean," I said as I winked at her.
She gasped at my reaction and her eyes were as wide as saucers.
I put on my glasses and flipped my hair. "Don't waste your time with Jonathan and I. You'll only make me appear cuter,"
Saying that, I smiled again and walked majestically out of the bathroom, leaving her shocked and her mouth hung open.
As soon as I closed the door of the bathroom, I put on my hat.
"That flip was necessary," I breathed and walked away.
"I watched what happened in Paris," my mom said.
I looked up from the food I was eating and looked at her. I had gone to visit her after meeting with the girl from the hotel.
I was at the dining table while she was in the living room. "What happened?"
She looked away from the television and pointed the remote at me. "The way you spoke about loving Jonathan and wanting to care for him," she squinted her eyes as she looked at me. "That didn't seem like an act"
I lowered my head and picked at the food.
"What's that look on your face?" She asked as she bent her head to get a better look at my face.
"Is it still a deal, supposed to end once everything is over, or have you started..." she paused and I raised my head to look at her. "Has things changed?"
I dropped the fork in my hand and went to sit beside her on the couch. I put my arms around her shoulder.
"Mom, Jonathan is different,"
She looked at me in surprise, her brows furrowing. "You... you like him?"
I nodded and that made her gasp more.
She looked down. "I don't want to interfere in your life, but you're still my daughter and I'm responsible for you and I want nothing but the best for you,"
"You can love whoever you want," she continued. "As long as your heart chooses him, but why him? You met him under the same circumstances I met your father. What if it ends the same way it did with your father and I?"
"No mom," I shook my head. "He's not like that. He actually respects and values me"
It felt strange saying that. I never would have believed that I would one day say this about a man.
"Are you sure about that?" My mom asked.
I nodded and held her hands in assurance.
"It seems you trust him, but still. Don't let your guard down and in all you do, ensure you still have the contract handy,"
"Umm," I scratched the back of my head. "It's not available anymore. It's been burnt,"
My mom just stared at me like I had grown another head. "In the absence of that, try not to get pregnant for him,"
I laughed. "Mom, come on,"
"I'm just saying. That was when things took the wrong turn with your father," she added.
"I understand mom and I promise. It won't get to that," I looked at her knowingly. "Do you approve?"
She nodded. "You seem too sure of it and really happy. I can't be a barrier to that happiness and I just want you to know that I'm always here for you,"
"I love you mom," I said as I embraced her. I felt like a huge load had been taking off my shoulder. I had my mom's support. But honestly, it seemed like I trusted Jonathan.
But deep within, I had the fear of Jonathan repeating what my father did.
