Chapter 43-Im sorry Mom

Audrey's POV...

"Audrey, calm down," my mom urged.

I scoffed as I stared at her in disbelief.

"Are you really taking his side now? You want me to calm down so you'll talk me into meeting him," I ran my hand through my hair not minding that my hair was perfectly made for my shoot.

"He hurt you mom, why are you so willing to forgive him and even went to meet him? "

"Calm down Audrey. I'm not asking you to talk to him or anything. Just hear me out," my mom said authoritatively.

I slowly sat down back on the chair and stared at her. "What happened?"

She rubbed her eye and only then did I notice how red and puffed her eyes were. She was crying before I came.

"He called me and asked to meet with me," she started. I rolled my eyes in anger.

"He had the guts to call your number after what he did. He didn't even call to apologise but to ask you to meet him. He's truly heartless," I shook my head.

"He's just asking to meet his daughter," my mom said.

"Just?" I frowned. "His daughter?" I laughed humorlessly. "I'm not his daughter and I'll never meet him even if a knife is placed on my throat,"

"Audrey dear,"

My mouth hung open in shock and surprise. What was up with her? Why was she so calm about all this?

"Mom, he hurt you. He labeled you the bad person, a gold digger. He called you names and abandoned us. Why did you give him that chance to see you?" My voice was beginning to break.

She turned away.

"He denied me mom. He left us. He didn't show up and I grew up without him for twenty-four long years and now..." I choked as the tears began pouring down.

"He's suddenly here and asking to see me? I can't do that" I shook my head. "That's not happening,"

"Audrey please. Just hear him out," my mom said, turning to face me and held my hands.

"No mom," I jerked my hands away. "I won't see him, ever. Not in this life, not in the next. If you're sounding this way because he asked you for forgiveness, and he thinks that's enough reason for me to meet him... he's dreaming. I'll never forgive him"

"You think I'm happy seeing you without a father?" She burst out. "I hate it whenever I think about the fact that you had to pay the price for the mistakes of your father and I,"

"Mom, you had nothing to do with it..."

"I hate myself everyday for making the wrong choice and involved you in this mess. You were bullied in school because of it"

I lowered my head when she said that. My mates in elementary and middle school always mocked me because whenever we were asked to invite both our parents to school, only my mom came.

The memory of the 'Father-Daughter' dances I skipped and the whispers in the hallway about my 'ambitious' mother hit me like a physical blow. She thought a reunion would heal those scars, but to me, it felt like rubbing salt in them.

"I felt like a bad mother. Like I failed you and brought you into a hopeless family,"

"This family is not hopeless," I cut in immediately. "Don't call us hopeless because of him"

"Please. This is something I've always prayed for. To finally unite you with your father. I'm doing this because I love you and I want the best for you. Just stay out of this feud between your father and I. Let me bear the consequences alone. I can't watch you live in this pain..."

"No mom," I said, standing up and looking down at her. The tears were streaming down her face. "I'm so sorry but... this particular pain... I'm willing to live with it for the rest of my life," I said and started walking away, leaving her there.

"Audrey please," I heard her plead behind me. I couldn't turn back. No... I can't do what she was asking. I'll never let him into my life.

I raised my hand and wiped the tears off my cheeks. This was the first time I was having a fallout with my mom and it hurt more than I could ever imagine.

I reached the door and glanced at her, with my hand trembling on the knob. She wasn't looking at me, but I knew she was crying. Her sniffles and the way she raised her hand to her face.

'I'm sorry mom' I muttered to myself and left, shutting the door gently.

Jonathan's POV...

I was in the living room waiting for Audrey. I checked the electronic wall clock.

7:47pm.

She doesn't stay out this late. I had called her agency and they said she left during the shoot after she got a phone call.

"I just hope she's okay,"

She didn't call me to inform me that she'll be home late, like she usually did.

I was beginning to have crazy and wild thoughts.

What if it was a scam call and she had been kidnapped?

What if she entered an accident?

So many what ifs.

The sky grumbled and I knew it was going to rain. The downpour started slowly and then, it intensified and and fell aggressively like it was releasing pent up anger. I stood up from the chair and walked towards the door, hoping to see her drive in.

My mind drifted back to the conversation with my father earlier today. Because he loved me. I scoffed.

I shook my head immediately, trying not to think about it. Audrey was more important.

The raindrop fell on the window and drew a line as it rolled down. I sighed.

This rain could delay her coming back, especially if it worsens and it wouldn't be advised for any car to be on the road. Most of all, she hadn't called.

I rubbed my hand on my face and as I opened my eyes, I saw her red Bugatti drive in that moment.

I quickly rushed upstairs to get an umbrella as she was parking the car. I got the umbrella and headed downstairs, but she was already coming in.

How was she able to walk that fast?

She stood by the door as the water dropped down her body.

I approached her and the first thing I noticed was her quietness and the way her head hung low.

"Audrey," I called. "Are you okay?"

Slowly, she raised her head and I gasped. Her eyes were swollen and red like she was punched or beaten up.

"What happened?" I asked alarmed as I touched her eyes softly. "Did someone do this or was it an accident?"

She didn't say anything. She was just standing there staring at me. Her ruined mascara caused black smudges under her eyes.

"What's wrong?" I asked as I touched her cheeks. "Are you okay?"

She shook her head and then I saw it. The tears flowed down her eyes.

I quickly wrapped my arms around her, regardless of the water on her and led her to the couch.

"Why are you crying?"

She closed her eyes and sobbed harder. I made her lean on me and she sobbed into my chest.

I patted her back gently and smoothed her hair. "It's okay," her body vibrated under my touch as she cried. I whispered softly to calm her down.

At this point, I think there's no better love story than theirs.
