Chapter 45-Getting flicked

Third person's POV...

"I heard you went to see Lainey," Matthew Cavendish said, tapping his fingers on the car window.

"Since when have my affairs become a concern to you?" Luke, Audrey's father asked.

They were in Matthew's car. He had sent for Luke earlier and when he met them at the destination, Matthew set his driver away so that he could speak privately with Luke.

A sly smile played on Matthew's lips. "You talk back to me now. But you were the same man who came to me twenty-four years ago, seeking advice from me,"

"You've done enough and I don't want anything from you again. Your help, advice... nothing at all," Luke said dismissively.

Matthew looked at him calculatingly as he nodded slowly, as though digesting what Luke had said.

"You sent for me. What is it?" Luke asked.

"You went after your wife..."

"Lainey is not my wife... not anymore and you made sure of that," Luke cut him off.

Matthew was taken aback as his brows shot up in surprise and his eyes widened. He chuckled darkly and lowered his head.

"Don't play the victim here and make me appear like the villain," Matthew said, his voice dropping to a smooth, dangerous silk. "You came to me for help and I offered the best solution I could give. You were the fool for taking it"

Luke's eyes widened, the sting of the truth hitting harder than a physical blow.

Matthew shrugged, looking bored. "I gave you advice. I didn't shove it down your throat. The choice was yours"

Luke's jaw clenched. His fingers curled into his palm so tightly his knuckles turned white. "What do you want?" He asked with gritted teeth.

"I know your next motive," he paused. "You plan on meeting your daughter,"

"And what does that have to do with you?" Luke asked immediately. "Like you said... my daughter"

Matthew's jaw tightened as he looked seriously at Luke. "Don't," Luke furrowed his brow. "Don't ever appear before her. She should never see your face. Remain dead to her, as you were in the past,"

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Don't thwart my plans. My plans have been perfectly laid, you wouldn't ruin it," He added.

Luke didn't say anything. He just kept glaring at him.

"I don't want you coming into Audrey's life and ruining things between them,"

"Them?" Luke asked.

"Jonathan and Audrey," he paused. "I have plans for both of them. You saw the news months ago. The pictures... that was me," Matthew said, smiling with the corner of his lips.

"That doesn't make any sense,"

"I am the architect behind what happened that night. How I did it... it's not your place to know. But I made sure that they ended up exactly where I wanted them"

"So their relationship is..."

"Yes, that's a facade to cover up for what happened. Exactly as I planned. They were never in any relationship... at least I know that much," Matthew added and smiled.

"How do you expect me to believe that all you've said is true... and even if they are, what does that have to do with meeting my daughter?"

"You lost the right to call her your daughter," Matthew said sharply, his voice rising. "She hates you. You disgust her and you're dead to her. Don't ever show your face to her,"

Luke scoffed and looked at him directly. "What about Alexa?"

"What about her?" He asked without emotion.

"I hear you've got people over there looking over her... spies. You claim you don't care about her, yet you're interested in her affairs and ensure she's doing well,"

"So what is that to you?"

"Exactly. What is it to you if I want to meet my daughter?" He sighed. "You're after your daughter's well being, so why can't I do the same with my daughter?"

"You think you're smart, huh?" Matthew asked and leaned closer. "Stay away from Audrey Willows. She doesn't even bear your name..."

"So does Jonathan," Luke cut in. "He doesn't bear your name too,"

Matthew glared at him, his eyes twitching. "I believe I've passed my message. I won't let you ruin things for me,"

"She's my blood and I've been on her blacklist for so long now. I've been the villain....it's about time I made things right," he continued. "I don't care about your intentions, but you won't ruin things with my family anymore,"

With that said, Luke reached out to open the door. He pushed the door open slightly, he hesitated. A question pondered on his mind.

He turned around and faced Matthew.

"What exactly do you gain in all this? By setting them up,"

Matthew slowly lowered his head, an emotion flashing in his eyes before he lowered his head.

"I don't want my son to go through what I went through,"

"I don't fully get that... but why Audrey? What not any other girl?" Luke asked.

"It's only best to fix two people with terrible childhood together,"

Luke didn't say anything else. He just stood down from the car. Matthew sat inside, his demeanour calm and unreadable. He had a light smile playing on his lips.

He took out his phone and dialed a number. "Keep an eye on him, and if he attempts any progress... then proceed with the arrangement,"

He ended the call and shortly after, the driver came back and the car drove off.

Jonathan's POV...

"I've got good news," I announced as I entered Audrey's room. She was standing by the mirror and was brushing her hair. Her hair shone under the rays of the sunlight that penetrated into the room.

She turned around immediately, the brush in her right hand and her other hand held her hair.

She gave me a knowing look. "I like the sound of good news," she smiled.

"I bet you'll love it," I added, grinning. I walked closer to her and stood in front of her, my shoulders relaxing.

I bent slowly down to perceive her hair. It smelt lovely. I pinched her cheeks playfully, smiling at her.

"What is it?" She asked eagerly.

"Guess," I urged her.

"Oh no," she shook her head. "Not guessing games. I once told a fan she was in love with my bodyguard when she asked me to guess why she had a picture of me and my bodyguard in her car,"

"What?" I started laughing.

"Yeah. I'm that bad at it," she admitted.

"Okay," I rubbed my hands together. "I signed us up for a museum opening,"

"No way," she gasped, her eyes wide.

"Yeah way," I smiled and put my hands on my waist.

"Thank you so much," she quickly threw her arms around me and embraced me. "I love art exhibitions,"

"I knew you'd love it," I added and kissed her hair.

She detached from the hug and touched the sleeve of my shirt. "You're so sweet," she pushed out her lips and acted like she wanted to cry.

"I know. I know," I pointed to my lips. "You can show me gratitude here,"

She smiled and leaned in and placed a soft kiss on my lips.

"It's this evening and we have a few hours to prepare," I said.

"Last one to get ready... gets flicked," she dared. She flicked me playful on my shoulder.

I feigned pain and dramatically placed my hand on my shoulder. "That hurts... but you're on," I said in a challenging manner.

Ohohoho. I love this challenge. Reminds me of a certain scene in a movie. Guess the movie. Winner gets an appreciation chapter from Johnrey(Jonathan and Audrey) ????
