Chapter 51-Audrey will meet her father

Jonathan's POV...

Maya's face fell. "I saw it clearly written there that it was a contract,"

"Okay," the interviewer said. "But we need proof to believe that,"

Maya smiled with the corner of her lips. "I have solid proof here," she said as she raised her phone slightly.

I gasped. This can't be happening. I felt Audrey stiffen next to me.

"Things are getting interesting," the interviewer said.

Maya turned the screen of her phone to the interviewer. "See for yourself,"

The camera centered on the phone screen. It was an image of what seemed like a document. But it was too blurry and unclear. It was difficult to read.

"This is your proof?" The interviewer asked.

"Yes. I managed to get a rough snap of the first page of the contract before that nosy secretary came in,"

"How do we believe this is actually what you claim it is if we can't see it?" She asked.

"It's not a claim," Maya countered. "It's the contract and I'm very sure of that,"

"Looks like she can't prove that you both are contracted in your relationship" Lena said. "She's got no solid proof,"

"Then if that's the case," Audrey said. "We have nothing to worry about. She can't prove any point,"

"But we still have to be careful and you have to get rid of that contract like you said you would," Audrey said, looking at me.

"Richard," I turned to him. "Do what you're supposed to do,"

He nodded.

"Ms Benjamin. It was an honour having you on our show today. It's a pleasure... but we have to call it a day now,"

"What?"

"We'll see you probably, next time, when there's solid proof. But for now... Insider Spotlight has other exciting news to bring our viewers. Thanks for your time,"

"You're dismissing me?" Maya asked, her lips parted in surprise.

The host just smiled but said nothing.

"I'll bring clear evidence next time. This is not the last of me," she snapped her fingers and carried her bag. With that she left.

"Thank you so much for watching us. For more exclusive shows, don't forget to subscribe to our exclusive viewer package. Insider Spotlight remains your go to for insider news. Stay tuned and we'll be back for more exciting news"

"Thanks for watching,"

And with that, the screen went black. We all just sat there, watching the black screen. It turned on a few seconds later.

"I'm pretty sure that wasn't how Maya planned things would end," Lena laughed.

Audrey joined the laughter and soon after, we all joined in the laughter.

That evening, I was sitting in the living room, typing away on my laptop. I still had the stockholder's issue to deal with.

"Are you still working?"

I raised my head and turned slightly. Audrey was descending the stairs.

"Yeah," I sighed. "But don't worry, I'll resolve it soon,"

She just nodded slowly and came and sat beside me.

I had something I wanted to discuss with her. I hadn't told her about my conversation with my father. Now seemed to be the perfect time.

I removed the laptop from my lap and gently placed it on the couch, next to me.

I faced her and held her hands, looking into her eyes.

"There's something I have to tell you,"

"I want to tell you about something,"

We both said at the same time. She smiled softly. "You can go first,"

I shook my head. "No, you go first. Ladies first,"

She adjusted in her seat and cleared her throat. "I've decided to meet my father,"

There was a brief silence.

"What?" I asked. That took me by surprise.

"Yeah," she continued. "I have thought it through for several days now and I've deemed it fit to stop running from it. I have to face it squarely,"

"Besides," she shrugged. "It's my mom's wish as well.

She really hopes that my father and I will get to sit and talk.

She's never asked me for anything so earnestly before.

Only this. It wouldn't be fair to do that to her.

Since that day, I haven't heard from her and I haven't called her or gone to see her either.

I was just too scared of how I'd react,"

My hand reached up and touched her cheeks softly as I caressed it.

"I'm glad you've decided that,"

"I don't know how I'll feel when I see him. I've only seen him once in my life," she sighed and looked down. "I can't believe I'm doing this. What do you think will happen?" She raised her gaze to meet mine.

I thought for a minute. "The worst thing that can happen is that he asks for your forgiveness. Nothing more than that," I shook my head.

"Don't overthink it. I'm sure it'll turn out great. I think he wants to apologise and probably, for you to accept him back,"

She shook her head. "I don't want him back. I've survived without him. My mom and I are doing great in his absence. It's too late for him to come back now," her voice broke slightly.

I shifted towards her and put my arms around her and whispered to her ear. "You turned out really great without him. I'm proud of you,"

I couldn't see her face, but I was sure she smiled.

She broke from the hug, and my hands fell to her back, on her waist.

We were facing each other, but there was not much space between us.

"I've asked mom to schedule a day and place to meet" she paused. "It'll be tomorrow,"

I nodded slowly.

"If there's any question I really need answers to... it's just one question," she closed her eyes as she took a deep breath. "I'll ask him why he left us in the beginning. Whether he was scared, unprepared or he just wanted to... abandon us,"

I looked away slowly, my hands on her back slightly shivering. If I had known, I would have gone first.

How do I tell her this now? That my father and her father were once great friends. And most importantly, that my father made us end up together because he wanted to make up for betraying her father.

I just hope she doesn't meet my father tomorrow.
