Chapter 56-Distractions

Audrey's POV...

"This way Audrey," my photographer said, practising the pose I should try out.

I made the pose and he corrected me for the one hundredth time.

After the shoot, we went through all the pictures and...

"This doesn't seem like you," he said, peering into the camera. "And you've been a bit less lively. Like you've lost your spark," he said, looking at me.

I opened my mouth to speak, but didn't know what to say. He was right.

"She's just tired," Lena cut in. "It's not easy being famous," she held my hand gently. "She just needs five,"

We left and headed for my office. For the past three weeks, I've not had any shoots, nor have I accepted any ambassadorial deals.

"Are you sure you don't want to work with them?" Lena asked me when we got back to my office.

A skincare brand in London had pitched us and wanted to work with us.

I shook my head. "I don't want to work with anyone right now,"

She nodded slowly. "Sure,"

I slumped in my seat and shut my eyes. I felt her hands on my shoulders.

"You've been a shadow of yourself since you two broke up and I'm really concerned about you," she said.

I slowly opened my eyes.

"You've declined 27 business deals... actually 28," she sighed. "If you need a vacation to take your mind off him then I'll plan one for you,"

"No. No. No," I shook my head as I sat up. "You don't have to do that. I'll be fine,"

"You keep saying that. But each passing day, you just seem to become more..." she paused, probably looking for the right word.

"I didn't know I'd miss him this much," I admitted. "It's almost like my life ended since that night,"

"I'm sorry. I... I... understand how you feel," she rubbed my back.

"I can't keep this up. I can't stop thinking about him. I see him every night in my sleep. I even mistook people for him and I feel his presence around me every time," I looked at her. "I think I'm going crazy,"

She embraced me. "Love is a beautiful thing and you feel this way because you loved him. You're not crazy or anything. You just want him back,"

There was silence and I appreciated it. Her words made me think for a minute.

You just want him back.

"I'm sure he feels the same way too," she added. "You both had something very beautiful and such is difficult to find nowadays,"

I smiled weakly. "I haven't seen Richard around for some time," I said. "I hope you both are cool,"

"Well," she scratched the back of her head.

"Don't tell me you're not together anymore," I said, frowning.

"We're still together, but we decided to take a break," she said and I furrowed my brows. "We got to know each other because of you and Jonathan. It wouldn't seem nice if we kept on seeing each other as much as we did now that you two are separated,"

"Aww," I hugged her. "Thanks for thinking about us that way. But you don't have to call off your relationship because of us. It didn't work between Jonathan and I doesn't mean it won't work for you two,"

She nodded. "I know, but right now. I just want to make sure you're okay and take care of you," she smiled at me.

Her phone rang on the table and she picked it up.

"Hello," she answered. There was brief silence before she spoke. "Yes ma'am. I'll inform her," she ended the call and looked at me.

"Your mom said she's at your place and has been trying to reach you but you're phone is turned off,"

"Right," I muttered and brought out my phone. I had turned it off since yesterday because I didn't want anyone to call me.

"Okay. I'll get going now," I said, standing up.

"I'll get your driver," she said and dashed out of the office.

I arrived home and the aroma of a delicious meal filled my nostrils. I collected the keys from the driver and headed inside.

I dropped my bag on the couch and went straight to the kitchen.

I saw her there, humming a tune as she cooked. I approached her and hugged her from behind.

"Oh my goodness," she gasped. "You scared me,"

I detached from the hug.

"What are you making?" I asked her.

She smiled softly. "Your favourite," she answered.

I smiled back. "Thanks mom,"

"For what honey?"

Honey? He'd called me that once.

"For coming over to cook for me,"

She dropped the knife she was holding and held my hands.

"You're my daughter. You don't need to thank me for cooking for you," she paused.

"I understand how tough things must be for you now since that happened, so I'll be here with you.

To talk about anything you want to talk about. It'll be just the both of us"

"I like the sound of that," I said.

"Go freshen up," she said. "Dinner would be ready soon,"

I nodded and left the kitchen. It was great to see her in such a good mood.

We'd finished having dinner and we were sitting next to each other on the couch.

"You still think about him, don't you?" She asked all of a sudden.

I looked at her then answered. "Everyday. Every night. All the time. I can't stop thinking about him,"

"I'm sorry you two had to end things because of what happened in the past between your father and his," she said. "You both had something special and our sins just snatched it from you two,"

"It's not your fault mom. Besides, it was for the better,"

She patted my back.

"Today's his birthday," I said. "And I can't even give him anything or even see him,"

"Says who?" She asked. "You can wish him a happy birthday and send him gifts,"

"Do you think that'll be a good idea?" I asked, not convinced.

"It's a great idea. You'll only wish him a happy birthday,"

To be honest, I wanted to do that. I wanted to call him and tell him how much I missed him. How much I've gone crazy these past weeks thinking about him and how I haven't been able to concentrate on work because of him.

I pulled out my phone and inserted a new SIM card. Lena had gotten it recently for me. He didn't have it yet. But I knew he would know it was from me when he read it.

'Happy birthday Jonathan,' I sent it immediately before any second thought would come in.

"I know for sure one day, that you two will be back together again,"

I let out a laugh. That sounded impossible, but I didn't say anything.

I looked at the phone. I wanted to tell him how much I missed him.

'I really miss you a lot,' I typed, and contemplated whether to send it or not.

My fingers hovered over the send button. I shut my eyes immediately and sent it.

What would he think if he saw it? Will he answer?

Beep.

I looked at the screen.

'I miss you too'

I smiled when I read that. He missed me too.

Another message came in.

'I hope to see you one day,' I read to myself.

My heart swelled when I read it. He was still thinking about me.

As I tucked myself in that night, I couldn't help but wonder how I was going to live on from this moment and if we would ever meet again.

We're drawing closer to the end of this book. Yayyy ??.

It's been a journey, but I can't get still get enough of these two.
