Chapter 37

Surprise – when you get caught with your husband’s cock in your hands

A week later

Chloe

“W here are we going?” I ask once we’re in Lucas’s truck driving away from our house.

“It’s a surprise!” Natalia shouts.

I gathered it was a surprise when Lucas told me to get dressed in my favorite dress. I wasn’t too keen on the idea until he changed into a pair of charcoal pants that hug his ass and a blue button-down shirt I want to rip off of him at the earliest opportunity.

“Why does Natalia know about the surprise and I don’t?”

Lucas chuckles. “She doesn’t know what the surprise is either.”

“Yes, I do! We’re going to Hideaway Haven Resort for dinner.”

I moan. “I love the restaurant at the resort. They have the best seafood. But I don’t need some fancy dinner. I’m happy to eat at Smuggler’s Cove. ”

Lucas places a hand on my thigh. “I want to treat you. It’s been a rough week.”

“Tell me about it. My girlfriends drove my mother out of town and they wouldn’t let me participate,” I joke since I don’t want to bring up how Natalia’s mother was also driven out of town.

It’s been a tough week with Natalia acting out. Refusing to get out of bed, getting in trouble at school for mouthing off to her teachers, and not doing her household chores.

I don’t blame her. I know how it feels to have a mother who doesn’t want you. I’ve let her be bratty all week.

But then Lucas pulled me aside and explained how I’m not helping matters. Natalia needs discipline and boundaries, he claimed. This is what I get for marrying a policeman.

“I’m glad,” Lucas says. “I would have hated to arrest you.”

“But you would have anyway, Mr. Stickler For The Rules.”

“Rules are there for a reason.”

I shake my head. “I had to fall in love with a lawman.”

“You love my dad, Clo-Clo?” Natalia asks.

Oops. I guess the mermaid’s out of the water.

“I do.”

“And I love, Chloe,” Lucas adds.

“Good. Now I don’t have to worry about her leaving.”

I turn to face her. “You never have to worry about me leaving. No matter what happens between me and your dad.”

Lucas growls. “Nothing’s happening.”

I roll my eyes. “Whatever happens, you can count on me. I will always be there for you. Although, I may avoid sitting next to you on rollercoasters for the foreseeable future. I love you, sweetie. I’m not going anywhere.”

“Thanks, Clo-Clo. I love you, too.”

“You’re lucky we’re driving. Otherwise, I’d hug you on the street and embarrass you.”

She giggles. “You’re crazy.”

“And dang proud of it, too.”

Lucas turns into the entrance of Hideaway Haven Resort.

“It’s crowded. I hope you reserved.”

“I made a reservation.” He finds a spot and parks. “Wait for me,” he orders when I reach for the door handle.

Far be it for me to protest when my husband wants to open my door for me. He offers me his hand and helps me down. Natalia jumps to the ground next to us.

Lucas squeezes my hand. “Don’t be mad.”

“Why would I be mad? What did you do? Did you not reserve after all? Did I get all dressed up for nothing?”

His gaze rakes over my body. “No matter what, you didn’t get dressed up for nothing,” he grumbles.

I bat my eyelashes. “You like my dress?”

“I’ll like it even more when it’s on our bedroom floor.”

I shiver. I am down with this idea. We haven’t had sex in over a week since Natalia has been creeping into our bed every night.

“Surprise,” he mutters and opens the door.

My jaw opens at the sight that greets me. All of my friends are here.

“Piper!” Natalia shouts and tugs on Lucas’s sleeve. “Can I go say hi?”

“Go ahead, cupcake.”

I wait until she’s out of hearing range to ask. “What’s going on?”

“We’re celebrating our marriage.”

“But we already had a wedding and a reception. At this very resort, in fact.”

He places a hand on my lower back and steers me toward an empty alcove. “Wildcat,” he says and draws me into his arms. “I want a real celebration. Not the fake one we had when we got married.”

“I don’t know. Our first kiss felt awful real. Not to mention how sexy our first dance was.”

He frames my face with his hands. “I love you, Chloe Fellows. I want to celebrate our love. I’d give you another wedding if I could but you’ll have to settle for a wedding night do over.”

“I hope you got the cabin with the hot tub on the deck. We’re going in there naked.”

He moans. “Do not make me hard when I have to greet my friends and family.”

I sneak my hand through our bodies to find his hard cock and squeeze it. “I could take care of your little problem now before the party.”

“Little problem?”

“Lucas Fellows! You bring us your bride this moment or I’m going to lose patience,” a woman shouts.

“Listen to your mother, son,” a man answers.

“Son?” My pulse increases until I can barely breathe. “Your parents are here?”

“They can’t wait to meet you.”

I drop my hand. I do not want to be caught with his cock in my hand when I meet his parents.

“You could have told me they’d be here.”

He brushes the hair from my face. “It’s a surprise, remember?” He kisses my nose and grasps my hand. “Let’s go meet them.”

I tug on his hand. “What if they don’t like me?”

“Wildcat, do you love me?” I nod. “Do you love my daughter?” I nod again. “Then, they’re going to love you, too.”

I don’t understand his reasoning but I allow him to lead me to the foyer where an elderly couple is waiting.

“Mom, Dad, this is Chloe.”

“I love her already,” his mom squeals before rushing me and throwing her arms around me. “Welcome to the family. I’m sorry we weren’t at the wedding.” She pulls back to glare at her son. “But someone didn’t tell us.”

His dad claps Lucas on the back. “You’re a bit old to keep secrets from your parents.”

“It’s my fault,” I say. “I don’t have any parents and I was intimidated to meet you. Don’t blame him. Lucas didn’t do anything wrong. He’s perfect.”

His dad smiles. “She’s perfect for you, son.”

“I am nowhere near perfect. We should get this straight from the start before you set high expectations I can’t meet, Mr. Fellows.”

He chuckles. “Mr. Fellows? We’re family. You can call me Lucas. Or, if you want, Dad.”

“Dad?” My bottom lip trembles and my eyes get itchy. “I’ve never had a dad before.”

He kisses my cheek. “You do now, sweetheart.”

A tear escapes and Lucas wipes it away. “Don’t cry, wildcat.”

“These are happy tears. I’ll cry if I want to.”

He palms my cheeks. “And here I was worried you’d be mad at me.”

I slap his shoulder. “Why would I be mad? Do you not want your parents to like me?”

“I have a girl crush,” his mom says and I focus my gaze on her. “What? Did I say that wrong? I saw it on the tickety-tock.”

“The tickety-tock?” I giggle. “I think I have a girl crush on you, too, Mrs. Fellows.”

“You can call me Florence or Flo. Or maybe Mama Flo. Is it cool sounding?”

I beam at her. “Mama Flo it is.”

“Shall we join the party?” Lucas ask and motions toward the room where we had our wedding reception.

His parents go ahead of us as we walk to the ballroom.

“How many people did you invite?” I ask him when we enter.

“Everyone who was at our wedding, plus my parents.”

“You didn’t need to do this.”

“I love you, wildcat. I want to give you everything you want even if you didn’t realize you wanted it.”

“You’re good at this.”

“I learned from the best.” He nods to his parents. His dad hands his mom a drink before offering her a chair.

“I lucked out when you moved in next door.”

“Nah, wildcat. I’m the lucky one.”

I push up on my tiptoes to kiss him. He palms my neck and pulls me close until our lips meet. I groan at the taste of him. Lucas’s flavor of musk and man is addicting. I sigh and he pushes his tongue inside. My tongue reaches out to duel with his.

“You’re pregnant! Who the fuck is the father?” Hudson shouts and I break up our kiss.

Lucas’s brow wrinkles. “What’s going on?”

I grin. “I don’t know but let’s go find out.”

I clasp his hand and lead him toward the table where Nova is sitting. She’s throwing daggers from her eyes at Hudson. If they were real, he’d be bleeding out on the floor and Lucas would have to arrest one of my best friends at our wedding reception re-do party.

“Life is never going to be boring with you around,” Lucas says.

“Get your seatbelt strapped on and hold on for the ride!”
