Chapter 10 #2

The only reason she let these two continue their stay with her, was for backup or insurance.

Afterall the last attempt she’d made to use the gate she’d ended up near death lying on a random forest floor.

Truly believing that she was taking her last breath, Lanias had been alarmed when the two showed up.

They’d saved her and offered her protection in exchange for her sending them to their “world” not that Lanias knew how to accomplish such a task after failing so miserably.

However, they held their pledge and basically hung around till she could.

Stomping back into the room she tossed down her products and looked down at the mess of items groaning. “I can’t do this.” She snapped her fingers and immediately her magic went to work.

“Witch why are you so impatient, weren’t you supposed to use less magic in case your sisters could sense you.”

Placing her hands on her hips, she looked at them with exasperation.

“Look, unless you’ve had the night I’ve had, I would suggest you shut it.

I’ve dealt with Surrem’s, my father dying and a whole fuck batch of emotional baggage that the only way I can function is to bury it all deep, deep down.

” She took a deep breath. “Enough, I will be living with the Vampire until I’ve found what I’m looking for. ”

“Is this thing you’re looking for, something that will get us any closer to going home.” Jion asked, placing his bowl aside.

She shrugged, as her suitcase closed on its own and zipped itself.

“Let’s hope so, because I’m getting tired of being stalked.” With that she walked over to the wall that was covered with the clues she’d gathered and waved at it. All of it started to swirl and compile in the air and neatly stacked itself into a file box that sat in the corner.

When the last thing was placed inside the box closed. She walked over to the desk in the corner of the room and tapped the drawer. The drawer silently opened as she pulled out the diary inside. Pausing only long enough to glare at it before she tossed it into the box. “Well, that’s it.”

The two brothers stood; Lyon spoke. “We’ll see you once things settle down.”

“Yes, I’ve heard that line plenty of times.” She grabbed up the box and made her way toward the door pausing long enough to set her box atop the self-rolling suitcase she clapped twice.

The Unseelie seemingly vanished into thin air, just as the room returned to normal. “Damn, stalkers.” She muttered as she walk through the exit from her room. She stopped short when she found the tip of a long blade pointed at her nose.

Calmly she looked up to see why Alek’s son suddenly wanted to kill her. Only it wasn’t Dmitri who was holding the blade toward her face.

It was a Cambion demon, very similar to the previous protectors of Gaul.

“Let me guess, you want revenge?” she asked.

The Cambion sneered before he lunged at her. Lanias lifted the box to block the blow, but it was too late. The force of the hit blasted her through her bedroom door. Hitting the floor hard, she groaned.

Lanias missed having Oye on hand to deal with all the hand-to-hand combat.

“Our brothers were killed; we’ll take the payment for their lives from your skin Witch. Your Vampire guard is too busy to protect you,” the demon declared.

Lanias would have loved telling the Cambion demon marching toward her that her skin wasn’t for sale, but she prioritized saving her life first. Letting the box go she pushed herself up to her feet.

“I love you demons, always declaring what you’re after.”

She clenched her teeth against the pain from pulling her little bit of magic. She regretted using the energy to pack her bags earlier. The walls flexed and bowed as the brick walls twisted and wriggled turning into long spikes. “Now, why don’t I declare that my skin isn’t going any fucking where.”

And with that she launched magic laden spikes at the Demon.

While the Cambion were busy dodging, she ran toward the wall and muttered a quick hex.

The wall melted away, she dropped to her knees when a clawed hand swiped for her just as she entered the living room.

She looked up in time to see Dmitri move like a trained warrior toward one of her attackers.

His short swords rammed into the chest of the Demon who’d tried to take her head.

He yanked it out and spun, moving his two short blades like they were nothing.

Soon black blood coated the floor and furniture.

Dmitri avoided another attack from the shadows that moved under his feet.

It was clear from the busted-up floorboards they’d attempted to drag him down.

She crawled her way to the corner attempting to put space between herself and Dmitri while he fought.

His movements were quick and efficient, as he took the last head of the third Demon and stood sheathing his blades, he rolled his neck.

The most out of place thing on him was the wide grin he wore as he turned to face her, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

“Are you okay?” He asked.

She used the wall to push herself to her feet, “You remind me of my cousin.”

Confusion took over his expression. “Your cousin?”

She nodded, tapping her foot twice against the floor. Her Suitcase and box of items appeared next to her. “If she wasn’t already with a Warlock, I think the two of you would get along.”

He tilted his head.

“You are not getting away, Witch.” A shout exploded from the back, as the Demon she’d tried to take down ran into the living room only to stop at the sight of his compatriots’ bodies decorating the floor.

“What—,” before he could finish that thought, his head slid from his shoulders as Dmitri appeared behind him.

Straightening, Dmitri sheathed his sword.

Walking past the body he came to her side, this time his handsome face blank of emotion. “Ready?”

“Ready,” she said only to spot Jion waving at her from the window behind Dmitri. If it was the last thing she’d do, she’d teach them a lesson on keeping their word.

While in mid thought she was transported back to Alek’s manor.
