Chapter 36 #2
“Come fight with me.”
“I love you.”
“I’m asking you to fight my demons for me.”
“I guess I’m your Queen now.”
Alek’s memories bled into grey in his mind’s eye, every picture shattered.
The possibility of his future had been destroyed, and the corpse in his arms was the end to everything.
The pain tore through him, as his heart stopped beating.
Slowly he lifted his hand to touch her soft cheek with the wet sensation of his blood covered hand. “Lanias.”
He called her name, but she didn’t answer.
“What Vampire?”
“Lanias, please.” He pulled her close, burying his nose in her hair. “Say something.”
“Stop calling me,” She offered him a wicked look. “Don’t you get tired of saying my name.”
Pulling her closer, he held her. She was so cold.
“Lanias.” Alek called her name, but she didn’t say anything back this time. “Please, don’t leave me.” He begged, but she was already gone.
Alek had learned all about loss.
Over the hundreds of years, he’d endured so much pain but took his loss with a stoic face.
“Forever, fine. I’ll be with you forever.”
“You lied.” He whispered, drawing away. He looked down at her face, her eyes closed and her skin smooth as if she was just sleeping.
Alek lay her on her back. Standing, he didn’t move as the sound of fighting continued around him.
His blood slowly grew thin in his veins as his eyes bled red.
“I told you; you couldn’t ever leave me. ”
“Keke, you’re in pain, Vampire.” Zaharis floated above. “Sad, so sad. A half-breed dead.”
“Die.”
Alek was in the air before Zaharis could move. His eyes red, and skin deathly pale. He drew his arm back and thrust it through Zaharis’ chest. The Surrem’s shock was stunning, as Alek grabbed what he knew to be its heart and pulled.
Zaharis released a scream of pain vanishing abruptly.
Reappearing within the warehouse, he staggered as he landed moving to where he’d placed the summoning circle.
“Where are you going?”
Zaharis’ world tilted as he hit the floor. He stared in astonishment from where he lay on the ground, as he looked back in shock. He saw the Vampire holding his legs in his hands. “You’re not allowed to leave.” Alek tossed his legs to the side. Pointing his sword at him, he teased. “I’m not done.”
Eyes widening, Zaharis cried out in fear, desperately he crawled toward the circle.
Alek tossed his sword up; and it split into sixteen shards of sword and circled in the air. “I said stay still.”
The swords all fell slamming into Zaharis’ body, he screamed, feeling each one stab into critical body parts. “Agggggh!”
“Louder,” Alek said. Walking casually toward his body, he grabbed one of the swords and yanked it out. Then he walked over to his left side and lifting the sword he brought it down on Zaharis’ arm. With a small kick, Zaharis’ hand went flying. “I’m going to carve you till there is nothing left.”
Zaharis’ screams filled the air as Alek meticulously chopped him up. Every scream drew more attention until all those who’d been there finally noticed that the roaring wind had stopped, and that there was no more slime.
Alek stood over Zaharis’ body.
He lifted his sword near Zaharis’ head, and with a flick of his wrist he removed the head from the torn body.
“Lanias,” Oye yelled, finally able to see what was happening. Her eyes landing on her cousin’s body, she stumbled back in surprise. “Oh no.”
Sabina ran past her toward her sister, her magic calming.
“Lanias.”
She ran with her arm outstretched, only for Alek to appear before her.
“Sabina, no!” Oye shouted, but it was too late.
The next thing Sabina knew, Oye was in between her and Alek.
The Vampire’s blade clanged as he brought his sword down and Oye brought up her scythe. The force caused both Oye and Sabina to fly back and hit the ground hard.
Coughing, Oye managed to recover. “Shit, this is the last thing we need.”
“Why did he attack me?” Sabina demanded, pressing her hand to her side.
As she looked up to where Alek stood. His shirt was completely gone; his chest was bare and covered in red tattoos. His hair reached the ground as his fangs were exposed to them.
He looked like a fierce demon king.
“He’s not in his right mind,” Oye mentally cursed, they spent so much effort fighting the slimes.
Fighting Alek, who was clearly out for blood, wasn’t going to be easy.
She needed the guys here, and she needed them here now.
They needed to check and see if Lanias was just injured or dead, and a part of her was hoping it wasn’t the latter.
“I told you not to come here.” Castian’s irritated voice filled her with both annoyance and relief. As he landed behind her. He gave a cursory look around, seeing some of the witches who were recovering.
“Well, it looks like you guys are…” He trailed off at the sight of Alek who stood almost as if on guard before Lanias’ body. “Well, that doesn't look good.”
“No, it doesn’t,” Raijin said, as he walked past him over to Sabina. He picked her up and pulled her into his arms. “You should be home.”
“Why does everyone seem so sure that I should be home,” she muttered, letting him soothe her feelings by dropping a kiss on her cheek. “Right now, what we should be focused on is dealing with Alek. Plus, the kids are safe with the babysitter.”
“That’s problematic,” Tiller said, from where he sat casually on a boulder.
Next to him stood Malcolm who let Eliza run over to Oye and Sabina to see if they were fine. “The last time I saw him like that he destroyed a good portion of red street.”
“Who stopped him then?” Raijin asked, lowering Sabina back down.
“No one,” Tiller said, flicking some ash off his shoulder. “He finished his rampage, and I covered it up.”
“I destroyed a bank, once. And you told me I had to pay for it,” Castian complained. “Why didn’t you cover it up for me.”’
“Didn’t feel like it,” Tiller said, hopping down, he stared up at Alek. “So, are we doing this?”
Raijin placed a kiss on Sabina’s head. “Yes.” He walked over to Tiller. “How do you want to start?”
Malcolm stretched his arms up grinning. “I don’t think it matters as long as we bring him down.”’
“I agree,” Castian said casually, spinning his cane. “The faster we do this, the faster we can all go home.”
Nine white tails sprouted out from behind Tiller, his ears twitching. “I agree, I’m sorely tired of fighting.”
The four faced Alek, who’d sensed their movement.
“It feels like the old days,” Malcolm said smiling. “The Jackals once again on the hunt.”
Castian shot him a look. “Please, save the lame sayings for when I don’t have to endure them.”
“Whatever.” In a flash he stood before them a full wolf, his teeth bared. “Let’s go.”
They ran toward Alek.
All of them intended to subdue him and return his senses.
