Alice and the Witches of Oz

In London in 1913, eighteen-year-old Alice Liddell is confined to Pastoria House, where doctors treat her Wonderland visions as delusions and never suspect the place is a hidden haven for young witches.

Miss Molloy has bound Alice’s powers to conceal the truth that those dreams are prophecy, not madness.

When Wendolyn Darling, another dreamer tied to Alice by a bond neither girl can explain, vanishes after speaking of a boy named Peter and an island that cannot be found, Alice flees a madwoman whose face is never the same and a malevolent witch by passing through a mirror into Oz.

Princess Languidere, who collects the heads of beautiful women and inherits their dreams, pursues her along with the exiled witch Mombi, clawed gnome legions that rise from the wells at night, and the fallen demigod Lord Roquat.

Her unlikely allies are the shape-shifting prince Blinkem, whose loyalty deepens into an attachment neither expected, an ingenious inventor and his mechanical soldier, a spirited Munchkin girl, and the dragon Alice names Dinah.

Together they seek Tattypoo, the Great Witch of the North, whose knowledge of Alice’s past may unmake what she believes about her origins and the unfinished story linking Oz, Wonderland, and Neverland.
