Chapter Thirty-Four
Chapter Thirty-Four
Captured!
Tallie went and grabbed a blanket and pillow out of a nearby supply closet, using them to make Lauren more comfortable. The woman didn’t open an eyelid when her head was lifted, and the pillow shoved under it. She looked around and decided that if she did anything in this room, it might wake Lauren. And she figured her friend needed the sleep.
Tallie didn’t want to sit here, so she decided to go through a couple of the nearby rooms while Lauren rested. She took one of the smaller chairs, placing it outside the room she planned to work in first. So, when the other woman woke, she would know where to look.
Opening the door, she stood there with her hands on her hips. This had to be the captain’s room. She really should wait until Lauren was awake, but Tallie didn’t want to. If they were going to find something good... something that might lead them to more slaves or money to help them take care of freed slaves... it would be on the bridge or in here.
It was the only thing that made sense. This was bigger than any of the rooms she’d seen on this ship. It even had a little nook area off the bedroom with a couch and table. Somewhere for the captain to eat or work without having to leave his quarters. She snorted. Makayla had killed the first captain when the red, furry Siloth creatures invaded her ranch and kidnapped Kaitlyn and Lauren. The women believed the second captain died when the ship crash-landed on Megoth.
Tallie walked in and did a slow circle of the room. There was artwork on the walls. Most of it was crap and done in shades of gray and a very light blue... but still. None of the other rooms had anything to break up the black. The bedding was also shades of blue and gray. It looked clean and when she walked by and fingered the cloth—it was softer than anything she’d felt before. And she was an ambassador’s daughter. She was used to nice things.
She stuck her head in the bathroom and whistled. This was an incredible space. Big enough to house the humongous bathtub and a separate shower. She walked over and pressed one of the buttons for the bath and was excited to see it begin to fill with hot water. She quickly turned it off. She might come back here tonight and use that tub if the twins said it was okay.
The shower worked too and was big enough for several people to bathe at the same time. There were mirrors and sinks, and a toilet. And cabinets with scented soaps for the tub and all sorts of grooming devices and potions. She didn't know what most of them were... and that was saying something.
She turned back to the bedroom and decided that the first place to search would be behind the pictures. It just struck her that they were the only wall decorations on the entire ship. So, she took the first one off the wall. She noted there was nothing on the wall behind this one, but when she turned the picture over, she found a personal data device taped to the back.
What an idiot, she thought, as she peeled it off and stuck it in her pants pocket. Makayla would be anxious to see this.
As she turned to the next picture, she heard a sound in the hallway. She started to call out, but it didn’t sound like Lauren, so she made her way to the door. She stepped through and stopped. Frozen in place with fear.
Bashad, her slimy and disgusting never-fiancé, had Lauren in front of him, blocking his body so Tallie couldn’t shoot him with the silver cane or the laser gun.
Worse— he held a knife at Lauren’s throat.
