Chapter 39

CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

TRINI COLEMAN

Ilooked at my phone and frowned when I saw it was Sony calling me.

The only reason why I had that stupid nigga’s number was because Viper made us call him if we ever faced any trouble while doing our inspections.

But since Havoc took over, I didn’t need to do that shit anymore and forgot to delete this fool’s number.

He really thought he was all that, when everyone knew he was only puffing out his chest because of who his dad was.

Rolling my eyes, I decided to answer just to let him know not to call my phone again.

“In case you didn’t get the memo, I no longer work under your dad anymore, so don’t call me again,” I said with an attitude, looking down at my nails.

“You might want to check which side you’re on, Trini.”

I frowned.

“And what is that supposed to mean? Everyone knows that I’m loyal to Havoc and his brother, for life.”

From the moment I met up with those brothers, I made a pledge that only death could take me away. Hell was gone now, but my loyalty to him stood.

Sony chuckled. I swear if he was in front of me, I would have slapped the hell out of him. There were many times this nigga tried it with me, knowing I couldn’t do shit about it because of his dad. Not anymore—now I was the boss!

“It’s funny you say that about Hell when you’re running around with the mothafuckers that killed him.”

My mouth dropped, and I stilled.

“What the fuck are you talking about, Sony?”

Havoc already told me that he found the young nigga that shot Hell. But once again, Sony was busy running his mouth about shit he didn’t know.

“Oh, you weren’t there that night at Sincere’s memorial, were you?” he asked. Now I was even more confused because what did that have to do with anything?

It was the anniversary of my parents’ death, and I always took that week off to travel just so that I could cope, so I wasn’t around for Sincere’s memorial. Today was my first day back.

Something told me to hang up the phone and go find Havoc to see what the hell Sony was talking about, but then his next set of words knocked me on my ass.

“Kairi poisoned Hell. That’s what killed him, not the gunshot wound.”

I sat in silence because there was no way he just said that.

“W-what?” I asked. Sony then went on to explain all that happened the night of Sincere’s memorial and how the crew had now split in two.

How did all this shit change in a week?

I quickly pulled my phone from my ear and ended the call. My hands shook as I stared down at my phone.

Surely, Sony was capping and saying shit just to mess with my head.

“Yeah, it had to be that,” I said to myself. “But maybe, I should just ask Shakur.”

I put my phone in my purse and hurriedly left my house to find him.

I found him at Oblique’s store, as usual, but for some reason the shit was locked up.

I had to call him to come and get me. Shakur appeared, unlocked the door, and let me in.

When I stepped inside, I saw so many weapons that I lost count.

“Uh, what is going on?”

It looked like I walked into a damn gun range instead of a motorcycle store. Shakur took me by the hand and led me into Oblique’s office, where we were alone.

“Are you guys going to war or something?” I kidded until Sony’s words hit me. He said that the crew had split in two, and if that was the case, it would be a war zone.

When Shakur didn’t laugh at my words, I knew it was true.

“Listen, some shit is going on. I would have preferred if you stayed traveling but Havoc needs you to watch Kairi. I need you to watch my sister.”

I frowned and took in his words, feeling lost at what he was saying.

“Why?” I asked because he was saying a lot of things, yet nothing too at the same time.

“I don’t know if you know, but Sony was fucking with my sister. She never told Havoc or me about it,” Shakur explained.

I frowned because I didn’t know that shit either. Havoc definitely kept that one quiet!

“Anyway, she tried to get her lick back, but—” Shakur stopped and looked at me. His eyes were saying words that he couldn’t. It immediately gave me an uneasy feeling.

“But what?” I asked. Heart racing because I was scared to know, but at the same time, I wanted to know.

Shakur just peered at me, silent and stiff until he sighed and continued.

“But something went wrong and Hell—” he stopped again, but he didn’t have to finish what he was saying because Sony was right.

“She’s the reason why Hell died?” I asked breathlessly. Shakur looked at me, his brows knitted in annoyance.

“You ain’t gotta say it like that. It was a fucking accident, but somehow Sony found out and is using that shit to try to take over. Mad niggas are gunning for my sister’s head to get revenge. Shit is a fucking mess.”

Shakur looked stressed. Shit, I was stressed out after hearing that!

My eyes closed, and my mind wandered to my best friend who lost his life meaninglessly because of Kairi. Was that the reason why I didn’t like her from the moment I saw her face?

I knew she wasn’t to be trusted! If Havoc had listened to me, none of this would have happened.

Guilt hit me that I wasn’t there for Hell either. An image of his smile popped into my head, and I swallowed the lump in my throat.

“Trini? You good?”

My eyes popped open when I felt Shakur tap my thigh. I jumped up to my feet, his touch suddenly feeling like fire against my skin.

“Uh, yeah, I’m fine. Just tired, that’s all,” I lied and smiled at him.

“Why don’t you go to my crib and relax. I’ll be over there later,” he suggested.

“No, it’s okay, I don’t wanna disturb you.”

I picked up my purse and put it on my shoulder. Shakur stood there looking at me with a blank expression on his face.

“You sure you’re okay?” he asked again.

“Yeah. I’ll call you,” I told him before I hurriedly left the room. I didn’t stop walking until I made it to my car. The realization hitting me hard as hell. The realization was so heavy, my legs felt weak.

I felt cheated, so I could only imagine how Havoc was feeling.

Havoc!

My best friend must have been in turmoil, hurt beyond words by someone he trusted.

“I have to save him,” I said out loud. “I have to.”

I wasn’t able to save Hell, but I damn sure wasn’t going to let anything happen to his brother, too. I owed Hell that much!

My phone started ringing again. I expected it to be Shakur, since I left so suddenly, but it wasn’t. It was Sony—again.

I watched his name light up my iPhone screen for a few more seconds before I finally answered it.

“Did you find out for yourself?” he asked, my silence giving him the answer. Sony chuckled.

“So, again, I ask you, which side are you on?”

“Sony, I will forever be loyal to Havoc and Hell. That would never ever change!” I let him know for the second time.

“Good,” he answered. I should have hung up, but my loyalty wouldn’t let me.
