PRESENT DAY

KORMIA

The memory faded as quick as it came. Kormia opened her eyes again still on Jackie’s couch—lashes damp, face sticky with dried tears.

Her head rested on a soft pillow now, and a warm blanket was pulled over her.

The living room lights were dimmed to a soft glow, shadows stretching long across the floor.

Jackie was on the other end of the sofa, half-asleep in a weird position.

Her hand draped over Kormia’s ankle, like she was holding her there making sure she didn’t drift too far. Even in her sleep.
