Chapter 15

Secrets

Chapter Fifteen

Ella

Islowly come awake. My body hums with aches and pains. It’s the good kind of ache, the one that lets you know you activated some muscles that aren’t usually activated.

Rolling over to my side, I open my eyes. My mouth is dry from the alcohol I consumed last night, and my body is sweaty. Suddenly, the events of last night flashed through my mind. I shot up in bed, my heart racing as I scanned my empty room.

“Oh. My. God.”

The memory of Mitch’s face buried between my thighs came back to mind. The way that man ate my pussy should be studied. His entire face was buried between my legs as if he was trying to suffocate himself. And the way his thick and long length slid in and out of me has my toes curling right now.

“You slept with Mitch.” I say the words out loud as if I wasn’t there last night.

Shoving the covers off my legs, I realize I’m partially still dressed. Although we fucked two more times, one more at the table and once with me riding him while he sat in the dining room chair, not once did we come out of our clothes.

I quickly hop out of bed. When I turn back to face the crumpled sheets, I find a letter on my nightstand. Picking up the paper, I read the scribbled handwriting I knew to be Mitch’s.

Had to run out. I’ll bring your car back. We need to talk.—Mitch

Oh goodness. Is he about to tell me how much he regrets what we did? Shit, do I regret what we did? Hell, No! My brain shouts at me.

Yes, I know my actions may cause problems later on, but the way that man had my body spasming, I could never regret it. Andrew has never made me come like that. Not even when we were younger, and he cared about things like that.

After taking a quick shower and doing my hygiene, I get dressed for the day and send a text in the group chat.

Me: I need a group call. ASAP!!!

As soon as I hit send, I place the phone down on my kitchen counter and pace back and forth.

My cellphone rings. I answered the FaceTime call and set the device up against the toaster. Jada appears on the screen. She’s on her treadmill running.

“Hey gorgeous,” she sings, slightly out of breath. “I was waiting for you to call me once you got in last night. You better be glad I saw you were home safe.”

Before I could respond, two other boxes popped up on the screen. Pam is sitting at her vanity with a mask on her face and rollers in her hair. Kyra is lying across her bed with a bonnet on.

“Hey, ladies!” Kyra sings.

“Morning, baby girl.” Jada greets.

“How’s my baby doing this morning?” Pam asks.

“She’s sleeping in,” Kyra pans the phone over to her sweet baby girl knocked out in her bed wearing a matching bonnet.

The last two boxes appear. Meagan is in her kitchen cooking pancakes while Destiny is outside on her balcony with a cup of coffee in her hands.

“Morning!” Meagan greets.

“Morning,” we all say at the same time.

“So, Ella, what’s up? Why do you have us all on the phone this morning?” Jada starts the discussion.

I stop pacing, stare into the phone with my bottom lip between my teeth.

“I had sex last night,” I blurt out.

Jada nearly loses her footing on the treadmill. Destiny chokes on her coffee. Meagan drops the pancake she was flipping while Pam and Kyra look shocked.

Jada turns her machine off and wipes at her face. “Wait, you and the dentist?”

I cringe at the mention of the dentist. “Eeeewww, no. That date was horrible.”

Kyra sits up in bed. “Wait, then who did you sleep with?”

“Ella,” Pam groans, pinching her brow. “Please don’t tell me it was your ex.”

“I swear if it was, I’m coming over there and beating your ass,” Jada places her hands on her hips and stares at me through the screen.

I chuckle. “No, it wasn’t Andrew.”

“Girl, then who?” Meagan asks, plating a pancake.

I open my mouth to say his name, but stop.

Did I really want to tell them this? I love these ladies and I know they wouldn’t rat me out, but a part of me wanted to keep this to myself.

What if they judged me? It’s not like Mitch was a real contender to date.

And the whole point of this is to find someone I can date and take to the wedding.

“An old friend,” I finally say.

I’m met by silence from all the ladies.

“An old friend?” Pam repeats.

“Yeah.” I nod my head. “After the date, I ran into him and we kind of connected.”

I felt bad about lying, but this was for the best.

There is another moment of silence.

“Does the old friend have a name?” Jada asks with one brow raised.

Shit, I didn’t think of that.

I shake my head. “You guys wouldn’t know him, but it doesn’t matter. He and I can’t be together.”

“Why?” Kyra flips onto her back, holding her phone over her face.

I shrug before looking down at my feet. “It’s complicated.”

Silence again.

“Okay,” Destiny says, dragging the word out. “But at least tell us if the sex was good?”

The moment the question is out of her mouth, my entire body turns into a furnace and seems to melt.

“Damn.” Pam grins. “Look at your face.”

I cover my blushing face with my hands.

“It was incredible,” I finally reply, dropping my hands back down to my sides.

“I swear, I never knew my body could come so many times. And it was like he couldn’t get enough.

We had sex three times last night. I had so many orgasms I stopped counting, and the way he devoured my.

...” I pause remembering there may be children around.

“My peach was like nothing I’d ever experienced. ”

“Well, well,” Destiny sings. “Seems like this old friend knows what he’s doing.”

“I have to admit, I’m jealous,” Meagan chuckles. “I can’t tell you the last time I had my..... peach eaten.”

“I want peach, Mama.”

“Me too, Mama.”

Meagan’s three-year-old twin boys shouts through the phone.

I cover my face as I laugh. The others' laughter floats through the phone.

Meagan shakes her head as she places the boys’ plates down in front of them.

“Eat your breakfast. I’ll be in the living room.” She snatches the phone up off the kitchen counter and heads out of the kitchen.

“So this mystery man was good?” Meagan asks as she plops down on her sofa.

“So good, I thought about having my tubes untied and giving him a baby.”

“Dammmmmnnnnn,” all the women say at the same time.

I wasn’t exaggerating. After Cameron, I had complications with pre-eclampsia.

It scared me and Andrew, so we decided that two kids were enough.

A month after Cam was born, I had my tubes tied.

But the way Mitch fucked me last night made me want to rethink that decision and give him a little girl at my big age.

“If the sex was that great, and he has you damn near cheesing like the Cheshire cat this morning, then why is he not a contender?”

Leave it to Jada to bring this question up.

“It’s complicated.”

“Is he married?” Pamela asks.

“Absolutely not.” I frown. “I’d never be a home wrecker.” Not even in this made-up scenario. “Let’s just say he and I would never work. It would not go over well.”

The ladies are silent again. Neither of them says a word. They just watch me closely.

Finally, Kyra speaks up. “Do you plan on ever seeing this guy again?”

This is the part I’m so confused about. How the hell am I supposed to go back to normal now that I have let the cat out of the bag? Do I even want to? Mitch and I have to see each other every day. Hell, he lives next door. However, I know that this can’t go anywhere.

“I don’t know,” I answer honestly with a sigh. “I mean, is it smart to keep seeing him knowing he and I can never be together?”

“Yes,” Jada says, tossing her hands up. “Look, when we started this project, we wanted you to date and have someone to take to your ex’s wedding.

And all that still applies, but there is a selfish desire to all this as well.

And if this mystery man can have my friend up at the ass crack of dawn glowing like she has the sun stuck up her coochie, then that’s all the incentive you need. ”

“I’m with Jada on this,” Pamela says, leaning closer to the screen. “You deserve to be a little selfish. Even if this leads nowhere, at least you can say it was fun while it lasted.”

“Exactly,” Destiny adds, placing her coffee cup down. “And who says you can’t continue to go on your dates? If the mystery man knows there is no happy ending to this....” She pauses. “He does know that, right? Like, does he agree that you two can’t be together?”

All eyes are on me now. I’m pretty sure that’s what this conversation Mitch wants to have is about.

In a perfect world, Mitch and I could be together and be happy.

But we don’t live in a perfect world. Mitch is Andrew’s best friend.

It doesn’t matter if they aren’t as close anymore; they were still best friends.

He’s also the godfather/ uncle to my children. That is entirely too messy.

“Yes,” I answer. “He knows, and I’m sure he agrees.”

Destiny shrugs. “Alright, then I say have your cake and eat it too. You can continue to go on your dates, and if the mood strikes, let mystery man be the one to fold you like a pretzel.”

All the girls, including myself, laughed.

“Yes,” Meagan giggles. “Let us live vicariously through you. Because some of us are a long way away from being folded up like anything.”

“It’s been so long for me, I wouldn’t even know what to do.” Kyra chuckles.

This is why this sisterhood is so important to me. I knew they would always have my back, and they didn’t have a problem telling me if I’m wrong or not. I know they wouldn’t steer me wrong. Maybe one day I’ll tell them that the mystery man is Mitch.

After another ten minutes, I ended the call with the ladies. Right on time, my stomach grumbles reminding me I hadn’t eaten since last night. The moment I pull the fridge open to find something to cook, the sound of my front door opening has me heading in that direction.
