Chapter 15

LEO’S NOTES

Place: Garage sale, Charleston, WV

Found: Faerie-kin diary of Nanna Shrop

Favorite quote: In my travels among faerie-kin across the world, I have discovered in northern Finland a community that is able to share their power with one another. Not specifically their gifts, but the well of magic within, the power that courses through their veins.

Misc: Visiting and learning from small faerie-kin communities in other countries is going on my bucket list

Leo didn’t say, “I need the rest of you, too.”

He didn’t say, “I need your lips in that berry gloss.”

He didn’t say that he needed her smile and her teasing and her faraway gaze, her hips and her skin and that musical voice.

He definitely didn’t say that he needed her to get her gift, because he needed her.

Because without a gift, Leo knew she’d be happiest leading a normal life, married to another normal who wouldn’t constantly mess with her memories.

He let his eyes linger until Pan lowered her head and flipped through the pages of the catalog.

Maybe she was right, and they shouldn’t get romantically involved.

Not until she either got her gift or… didn’t.

If she didn’t, Leo was going to have to reverse his pledge on not getting involved with a normal.

Even without a gift, Pan was anything but ordinary and he was beginning to realize he couldn’t imagine life without her.

She was definitely right: for now, they needed to stick with aggravating old friendship.

Though, that didn’t mean he’d let his longing go undisguised.

So purely as a friend, he asked, “Are you still sleeping with Gabe?”

Pan stopped flipping. “That’s a very personal question.”

“What if I tell you something very personal in return?”

She raised her gaze, her eyes sparkling with silver eyeliner and interest. “You first.”

“It’s embarrassing,” he said.

“Good.”

“I don’t want you to keep sleeping with Gabe,” Leo told her.

She closed the book. “Well I’m not.”

“Good,” he said. So much for just being friends.
