Chapter Nine #3

“I’ve been in touch with Saint. He’s got bad news and asked for a favor,” I tell them, my eyes focused on Chaos.

“Another one? He’s already asked us to get his club back for him.”

I deliver the next part carefully, without giving away Sienna’s history.

“According to Saint, Cain has eyes on his sister, Sienna, and will stop at nothing until she’s in his bed.

Saint has been moving her from place to place the last two weeks, trying to keep her hidden, and Cain is burning shit to the ground to find her. ”

“So what’s the fucking favor?”

“He wants us to take Sienna in under our protection,” I answer. “I already said yes.”

Chaos’ face morphs, his fists slamming down on the wood table. That adrenaline that was simmering just below the surface turns to a raging boil. I’ve never spoken out of turn, never pushed back on anything, but this time is different. I meet his energy, not backing down on this.

“For fuck’s sake, Wrath! Another one? We can’t take in another fucking woman here!”

I stand up quickly, putting my palms flat on the table, yelling back at him, “We don’t turn them away, either!

I’m meeting him tonight to pick her up!” I’d like to see him try to stop me.

Chaos doesn’t like outsiders and doesn’t trust anyone.

I know his only goal is to keep us all safe, and that he’s feeling like a failure for the shit that happened with Rolo, but I’m not backing down on this one.

Sienna needs a safe place to go, and I’m not turning my back on her.

Chaos narrows his eyes at me, but he simmers some.

“And where the fuck is Cain?”

“Saint doesn’t know right now. Looking for Sienna.”

“Bring Malice and Rogue with you. Don’t get yourself fucking killed in the goddamn process.

” Chaos dismisses us, and everyone pours out of the room.

Rogue nudges my arm, jerking his head to the side to follow him.

We slip outside, the muggy summer air immediately clinging to my skin.

I pull out a cigarette and light it up, taking a long inhale of nicotine, needing something to take the edge off. My skin is fucking crawling.

“You know those things will kill you.”

“Well, I’ll thank the Devil for letting me go out by my own choices when he comes to bring me back home then.”

Rogue rolls his eyes, resting his palms on the railing and leaning against it.

“Who is she to you?”

“You’re gonna have to be more specific.”

“The girl we’re going to pick up tonight. I’ve known you a long-ass time. You don’t get heated, and you just lost your shit on our president. Kinda like I did when it came to fighting for Kinsey. Now, don’t bullshit me. Who is she and what are we involved in that you haven’t come clean about?”

Leave it to Rogue to see right through me. I take another long drag, pulling it into my lungs and then releasing, the smoke curling around my head.

“I don’t know how to explain it. I met her, and there was just this pull. I’m invested, and I don’t know why other than that. I feel like this is all tied together, and I’m supposed to help her.”

“You or the club?”

“I was going tonight with or without the backing of the club.”

“So, she’s not just some girl.” I don’t miss the fact that he didn’t phrase it as a question.

Is she? I want to argue it. I don’t get caught up in women.

This is different though; she needs help, and she seems to trust me, even slightly, so I need to help her.

But she’s more than that. I just don’t know what or how.

“There it is. You know something, but you’ve kept it to yourself,” Rogue states bluntly.

“I do. But they’re her secrets, and I’m not going to share ’em. I gave all the info that was needed.”

“I can put two and two together, brother, and if the others didn’t have their heads in their asses, they’d see it, too.

You don’t need to say any more. I’ll remember the fear of Kinsey being taken by the Widowmakers and all the shit they could do to her.

Especially after knowing what they did to my sister. ”

I drop my head back and exhale the smoke toward the sky, then swallow hard.

Sienna is lucky to be alive after what Cain did to her.

Her account of what happened flashes through my eyes, my brain conjuring up images involuntarily.

That anger pushes forward, and I have to take a deep breath before I do something stupid and reckless.

“I’ve got it under control. She’ll be under my watch, and I’ll be responsible for her.”

“So, another one of us bringing someone in with the intent of being a savior. We’ll see how that goes.”

“Sienna doesn’t need a savior,” I snap. “She just needs to be reminded how strong she is. And if you’re insinuating that I’ll fall in love with her in the process, you couldn’t be more wrong. I don’t do feelings.”

“Sure as shit seems like you’re feeling a lot about her right now.”

“Fuck off, Rogue. Go back to Aspen Ridge.” Rogue feigns hurt, covering his heart with his hand and gasping.

“Nah. I’m sticking around. Kinsey’s on summer break still, and looks like we’re about to start a war.”

A war I’ll be the one to end.
