Chapter 33

Cat

Kane carried me for what seemed like hours. Whenever the venom started to wear off, he’d pull me down from his shoulder and subdue me all over again with yet another dose of his sickening poison.

The terrain grew progressively rockier wherever we were headed.

Suddenly, it seemed like we were flying, and I desperately held onto Kane’s back so that I didn’t fall.

Facing downward, I was able to catch a glimpse of what he’d done.

With one massive leap, and while carrying me, the ware had just spanned a ten-foot-wide ravine whose black bottom I couldn’t discern and would have surely spelled death for anyone unfortunate enough to fall into it.

We landed with surprising ease on the other side of the ravine.

Kane jogged on for a bit, before the light of the moon above suddenly dimmed.

Were we in a shack? No. Even as out of it as I was, I could tell we were in an earthen structure of some kind.

The raw, pungent odor gave it away. A cave maybe? Yes, I think that was it.

Setting me down upon the ground just inside the mouth of the cave, Kane finally spoke. “Wakey, wakey, Cat. You’ve got to walk the rest of the way on your own.”

Drained and dazed, my unfocused eyes glanced around the damp, dark space. With effort, I finally managed to ask, “Where are we?”

“Your new home, Omega. Do you like it?” Kane asked this with arms extended wide and a malevolent chuckle. “No one will be able to find you up here. This is going to be your new apartment until I breed the defiance out of you.”

I wanted to cry out, but I didn’t have the energy to do it. Sore and doped out of my mind from the aftereffects of his multiple poisonous bites, I could barely stay awake, let alone protest what he’d just told me, as terrible as it was.

Sitting down beside me, Kane ran his fingers over my face, down my neck, and then my breasts. When he got to my nipples, he gave the left one a harsh pinch.

My reflexes were embarrassingly slow, but I pawed away his repulsive touch. Angrily, the fucking beast grasped my wrist and squeezed it to the point of pain.

“You don’t get to tell me no anymore, Cat!” He snarled, a crazy gleam entering his cold blue eyes. “I’m your master now. You’d do well to remember that.”

My throat was screaming in pain from all of the venom, but fear for my best friend was still at the forefront of my thoughts.

With a heavy head and thick tongue, I mumbled, “Where’s Anna? Please, I’ll do whatever you want, Kane, if you just tell me where she is.”

Sighing, as if he wasn’t enjoying this power trip as much as he clearly was, the disturbed shifter stroked my head like a faithful hound’s. “She’s being taken care of, Cat. Don’t you worry.”

“You said you’d let her go if I came to you willingly,” I reminded this dangerous man.

Kane shrugged. “I lied,” he answered without a hint of remorse. “It was the only way to get you to leave Ace and comply with my desires.”

Tears began to slip down my cheeks unchecked. “Is she dead? Did you kill her?”

Chewing over the question, Kane continued to stroke my hair. “She’s alive and being held at one of our properties. But after my brother is done with her, she’ll wish she wasn’t.”

I began to sob then. “I hate you!” I rasped through the streaming tears. “I hate you so much!”

“I don’t care,” he stated blandly, not bothered in the least by my heated admission. “I’m not asking for your love, Cat. Just your submission and the use of your womb. That’s enough for me. That’s always been enough for me.”

“You’re a monster!” I accused, far past caring at this point. “I’d throw myself into the ravine before I’d bear any child of yours, Kane.”

If he was going to kill me for my defiance, so be it. Hell, in the long run, it might be a better fate than the one he had planned for me.

Snagging my hair, Kane flashed his elongated teeth. “It’s time you learn a lesson about respect, Cat.”

Throwing me onto my back, the snarling beast began to tear off my jacket.
