Chapter 14
POV: Kiera?
I thought it was a dream.
A dirty one at that, but just a dream.
But I realized it wasn’t when I tried to roll around onto my side and couldn’t budge.
Something was on me. A heavy arm. Cain’s arm. My boss’s arm.
Shit.
I blinked a few times, making sure what I was seeing was actually…real and I wasn’t having some manic episode.
I poked his muscular tricep and mouthed, shit as I laid flat on the bed, staring up at the ceiling and wondering what to do.
Maybe I could find a way to sneak out—to lift his arm slightly—so gently that he wouldn’t wake?
I squirmed a bit, trying to slip out of his grasp without actually touching his arm. But I couldn’t move an inch, that’s how heavy it was—that’s how strong he was.
Ok, next plan.
Maybe I could lift his arm off of me gently enough that he wouldn’t wake?
Here goes nothing.
But that didn’t work either, just as soon as I lifted it an inch off of me, and it took some effort, let me tell you, Cain began to stir awake.
Shit, shit, shit, I cursed within my mind, trying to pretend as if I wasn’t just about to run out of his penthouse.
Cain rubbed his eyes, smoothing back his tousled brown hair and blinking twice. Then his blue eyes were on me now—intent, fierce, consuming.
I began babbling, out of nerves, “I think I should get going. I’ve probably overstayed my welcome and I have things to do and—”
Cain cut me off with a deep chuckle. “Not so fast,” he replied, wrapping his arms around my waist and dragging me back down with him.
His touch felt….right.
It felt like I belonged in his arms.
I was becoming delusional—actually delusional.
But the longer he held me, the more delusional I became, because I didn’t want him to let me go.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked.
I became a literal mess once again. “Well—nothing—I just—”
“Stop thinking,” he replied, running his lips along my neck, pressing kisses into it.
This couldn’t happen—well it did happen, but it couldn’t—not again. We couldn’t have sex again. I couldn’t have sex again with my boss.
“Calm that pretty little mind down, Kiera.” His voice was comforting.
I took a deep breath, letting relief wash over me, as ordered by Cain.
“But—” I began, already back to thinking again.
“But nothing,” Cain replied, positioned so that he was hovering over me, rippling muscles, cocky grin, messy brown hair, and all.
And at that moment, I forgot that he was my boss. I forgot that we were supposed to have an employer-employee relationship and things were supposed to be professional.
All I could think about was his lips all over mine and his cum dripping from inside me again.
Cain leaned in, pressing a kiss on my lips and making me relive the memories of last night. Him inside me. My moans. His groans. Every single moment still lingered fresh in my mind.
His lips left mine. “I meant what I said, Kiera.”
I bit my lip, thinking, wondering, “But….that doesn’t make sense.”
He laughed, a low chuckle. “Why not?”
“Because you’re my boss.”
“I am,” he agreed with a smirk. “But you’re also mine.”
“Yours?” I almost coughed out in shock.
“Yes,” he replied, as his jaw tightened. “Mine.”
“I just don’t—”
He cut me off again. “Don’t say it. It doesn’t need to make sense and it won’t make sense. It just is.”
“It just is?” I shook my head, pulling myself into a seated position as he pressed his back against the headboard and looked at me.
“It just is. We won’t ever make sense but we’re meant to be…together.”
That almost took me out.
Here my boss was telling me that we are meant to be together, even though we just met a few days ago, and we just had sex last night. I’d be an idiot if I didn’t have my reservations.
But his voice—when he said it—it sounded like he meant it.
“I know it probably sounds…strange,” he continued, glancing up at me. “But I know you feel it, too.”
I didn’t respond.
“I know you feel something connecting us—something indescribable—something innate inside of you, pulling you towards me.”
I nodded slightly.
“Good,” he smiled, pressing his arm against me and taking my hand in his. “I don’t have all the answers, Kiera, I can’t explain why or how but when I can tell you I meant every word I said last night. And I mean what I say this morning. You are mine and we will be together.”
“But what about my job?” I blurted out.
I needed this job.
“You don’t have to worry about that,” he said.
“What does that mean? I need a job, Cain.”
“You’ll keep your job. Nobody has to know about us…yet.”
“Yet?” I squeaked out.
“Yet,” he echoed.
“Then when?” I asked, instantly.
“When the time is right.” His voice was serious, stern like.
I laughed. It was funny after all.
Cain’s eyes narrowed on me, as if he disapproved of me laughing when he had basically just bared his heart for me.
“Sorry but this is just so… I don’t know,” I shook my head still in disbelief.
He gripped my hand harder, trying to rein me in. “I promise.”
I promise.
His words replayed within my mind on a loop.
And I believed them.
I believed what he said. I believed that this…no matter how strange it seemed and no matter the sense it lacked…I believed it.
For a moment, his expression changed from comforting to concerned in a second’s time. It looked as if he was working something over inside his head. He shook his head slightly, as if he was convincing himself not to say what he was thinking.
Then he looked up at me with his usual calm gaze and said, “All there is to know is that you are mine.”
And for some reason—I believed him, because a part of me knew that it belonged to him.
