Chapter 33

POV: Kiera?

2 weeks later…

“I’m nervous,” I said, the words leaving my mouth in a sudden rush.

My hand rested on my stomach, on the life growing inside of me, quiet but alive, and all in all, I felt the same—-quiet but alive, somehow despite the adversity and the outrage around me.

Cain clutched my side, drawing me closer to him by my waistside. “I know, baby but it’ll all be okay. One day you won’t be.”

“When?” I asked in a sudden rush, my tone shaky.

Cain’s brow furrowed. “I’m not sure, Kiera, but hopefully once the baby is born. Hopefully the baby will help unite the pack.”

I shook my head, uncertainty lingering in the pit of my stomach.

Cain’s grasp tightened around me. “Let’s go,” he said softly.

And I knew as much as I didn’t want to—we needed to. We needed to face the pack after the last two weeks.

Cain and I walked side by side through the long hallways of our house, and each step felt weighted, as if my feet were being dragged through half dry cement. When we finally exited our home, and walked towards the meeting ground, my gaze lingered on the faces that now surrounded me. Wary. Skeptic. Resentful.

I turned my gaze away from them and back towards Cain.

Cain smiled at me, a lopsided one, as his hand trailed along my lower back, comforting me, grounding me as we stood before a sea of unknown.

“This meeting has been called to discuss the recent departures,” Cain’s voice boomed, sure and steady. “As I’ve said before, you can leave, but you’ll never be welcomed again into this pack. You don’t see it now but your hate and judgements towards a human—who happens to hold a greater title than you will ever hold, is concerning. Our child will be your Alpha one day. Whether he is half human, half werewolf, that shouldn’t concern you. What should concern you is how he leads. And Kiera, while she is not a werewolf embodies strength,” his grip tightened around my waist. “And our son will be no less, even if he is half human.”

Murmurs rippled from the crowd.

But Cain kept going, “What you should understand by now—-is that being human is not a weakness. Kiera couldn’t control that she was born human, nor could she control that the Goddess chose us as mates. Neither could I. But just because she is different from us, doesn’t mean that she is less—weaker or unequal.”

I scanned over the crowd, watching their eyes attached to Cain.

They listened to him and one day they might actually believe him.

They might actually believe in our child.

His grip never loosened on my waist, instead it stayed constant like his love.

“This meeting is adjourned,” Cain finally said, turning us away from the crowd and back towards the house.

“That was different,” I whispered, as I glanced up at him.

“It needed to be said,” he finally spoke. “I’ve been going about it all wrong.”

“You? An Alpha? Who never admits he’s wrong, has finally admitted a shortcoming?” I teased.

He shrugged, leading me back into our home. “I decided that strength might’ve not been the best tactic here. I needed to explain something to them—make them see the bigger picture.”

“And I’m glad you did,” I replied, as the door shut behind us and I tip-toed up to press a kiss into his lips.

He deepened the kiss, pressing me slowly into the wall and cradling my belly. “God, I wish I could be inside of you again.” The heat from his mouth warmed my skin.

I tilted my head back into the wall, letting out a moan. “Soon. The way this baby is growing, definitely soon.”

“Well, then,” he lifted me off the ground and carried me back to the bed. “Then I guess then I’ll just have to be patient.”

“You learning patience?” I laughed, running my hand across his neckline.

He set me down softly onto the bed, spread my legs with the back of his hand, pulling down my pants and moving my underwear over. “Alpha’s are known for their patience.”

“What else are they known for?” I asked, biting my lip, waiting for the inevitable.

His lips on my clit.

“For…” he replied, as he buried his face into my core, his tongue sent me into a quick spasm.

With my growing belly, I couldn’t quite reach his hair, so I let my arms slump to my side and enjoyed the way his tongue moved along my clit.

“For going down on their mates,” I laughed between a moan.

But he only made me moan harder.

His tongue swiped again against my clit, working it faster, and working me closer to my orgasm.

Within two seconds, my body was writhing, twisting, and I was screaming his name.

Cain’s hand clamped around my waist, grounding me in place, making my orgasm sink inside of me.

My eyes closed half way and I looked at him.

And his eyes were bright gold.

And something beneath them looked uncontrolled.

A squeak left my mouth as Cain crawled up towards me, my cum still on his lips, as his hand found its way to my throat and his eyes burned a deeper golden color.

“Cain,” I piped up, gasping for air.

His grasp tightened around my throat, as his lips brushed over my neck.

“Cain,” I said, my tone deepening this time.

But he wasn’t listening.

His canines grazed over my neck, threatening, menacing.

“Cain!” I screamed this time, my body spasming on the bed, daring to get away from him.

Within a second, his eyes flashed, to a lighter gold, and his grip released from my neck—slowly, his hands shaking as he did, as he placed himself into a seat on the edge of the bed, his head falling into his hands.

“Cain,” I replied, scooting towards him, and running my palm down his backside. “Cain.”

He finally looked towards me, his eyes flashing with a look of pain. “I’m sorry, Kiera.”

My brow furrowed. “It’s okay. I was just…”

“Scared,” he said, his tone low and ashamed.

“No…”

“Don’t lie, Kiera.”

“I’m not. I was just confused,” I explained.

“It won’t happen again,” he said. “I just lost control…” He glanced down at his hands again, as if they were capable of doing damage.

I grasped his hand, squeezing it, and tilting my gaze towards him. “Nothing happened. You didn’t….you didn’t mark me, Cain, everything’s okay.”

He looked at me then, a small smile creeping up onto his lips. “I love you, Kiera.”

“And I love you…Alpha,” I smiled, pressing another kiss his lips. “Carry me to the shower.”

“As you wish, Luna,” he replied, grasping me into his arms and lifting me with ease.

And when he set me down in the shower, I looked at him then, looked deep into his eyes. I knew that none of this would ever be easy—but with him, at his side—I felt untroubled.
