Adam
My head was cloudy, even after the omega left the room.
I could barely contain myself during dinner, watching him slide a fork between his lips and seeing those subtle signs of enjoyment on his face with each bite.
He kept trying not to stare, but every time I glanced at him, his brown eyes were pinned on me.
Now he was upstairs taking a bath, removing every item of clothing on that strong, lithe body. Picturing him naked in the shower almost made me lose the small amount of restraint I still had left.
Focus. I couldn’t afford to be horny and distracted right now. This reunion had already been derailed by slutty omega pheromones, and there was a long overdue conversation waiting for me and my youngest son.
“David, give us a minute.”
My eldest quickly bowed out almost before I even asked.
“Thanks,” Marshall said once we were alone. Thank you for lying, is what he meant. He never told us he was seeing someone. I just couldn’t let the omega think my son didn’t care about him.
“That was to spare his feelings, not to make you feel better. You used to bring home every single omega you were dating in high school, but you were never serious about any of them.” Even worse was the fact that my son brought home the most tempting omega I’d ever met in my life.
Marshall tossed his silverware down and stood to gather his dishes. “This is exactly why I didn’t tell you. You would just interrogate me and find him wanting, just like you always do.”
The shower turned on upstairs. The omega was naked and wet under the water. Begging me to take him. Calm down, Adam. I had to push those thoughts away, or Marshall would leave again. That alone was enough to cool my blood. For now.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Marshall.” He’s not yours. Casey belongs to my son. Keep a cool head. “Is it serious?”
“Yes. We’ve been together for two years.
” Two years of dating an omega, and my son didn’t think I should know about it?
“I know you’re angry. But… Casey has been through a lot.
I wasn’t sure if he would stay with me for this long, even though we’re good together.
I had to coerce him just to get him to come here with me. ”
So the omega didn’t even want to meet us. He had no interest in connecting with his boyfriend’s family. Why the hesitation? Did he even love my son?
“He’s cautious?” I asked, trying not to press too much, but my curiosity got the better of me.
“Meeting the parents has never gone well for Casey.”
My eyebrow slowly raised. Casey sounded like a red flag, and not the kind of omega I wanted for my son. The amount of unprompted attraction I felt for him only emphasized that fact.
“That usually means there’s something wrong,” I noted. “Parents can sense things about people.”
“Just stop it, okay. You know nothing about him.” Defensive. Protective. Marshall cared for Casey. “He’s infertile.”
“Oh.” Well, now I felt like a jackass. That tiny little omega couldn’t have children.
“Yes, oh. Before we met, all of his relationships ended because of it. Even if his boyfriend thought it was fine, their parents never did. He didn’t want to meet you because he knew you wouldn’t approve of him once you knew. I pushed the meeting. It was my idea, not his.”
“Why?”
Marshall checked towards the stairwell, then lowered his voice before answering. “I want to propose. At some point in the future. But I can’t ask him unless he’s met you and David.”
My heart almost stopped hearing those words from his lips. The omega I could not stop staring at, could not quell my desire for… My son wanted to keep him. He wanted to marry him.
“You love this omega.”
His smile made my stomach sink. “We’re good together. I enjoy being with him. I don’t care that we can’t have children. And if I’m going to be with someone for the rest of my life, I’d like it to be him.”
No mention of love. No talk of feelings. But the words came through loud and clear without him saying them. Marshall loved Casey. He used to bring home every omega he’d even smiled at, and never once did he have that look in his eye, the one I saw now. Love.
“Sounds like you’ve made up your mind.”
“I have.”
Damn it.
Curbing my attraction for a single day was one thing. How was I supposed to be around this omega once he married my son? I shouldn’t feel this way about him. I shouldn’t want him this badly.
As Marshall cleared the table and carried the dishes to the kitchen, I found myself looking up at the ceiling.
Casey. I could still smell him from across the house.
Rain and cedar, like a warm fire on a rainy day.
If there was one word I could use to describe Casey’s scent, it would be slutty.
Slutty omega pheromones that messed with my head and tried to destroy me from the inside out.
Determined to put this behind me, I helped my son clean up the kitchen and went upstairs, my legs almost too tired to move.
I would go to bed and forget this night ever happened. Forget that I wanted my son’s omega.
Except he was standing in the hallway.
Not just standing in the hallway, standing half naked with only a towel around his waist. A towel I could easily remove with one pull. God, he was so sexy. His scent. His body.
I came closer without even thinking about it, and he backed away from me until he hit the wall, and there was nowhere else to escape.
I stood over him, my eyes lingering on his body.
His delicate, lithe frame was so small compared to mine.
If I picked him up and did everything I wanted to do to him, he might break in half.
And yet, as delicate as he seemed, there was a sturdiness underneath the surface that showed he could take a pounding.
My eyes traveled down his bare chest, staring at the small patch of hair that trailed all the way to his towel.
We were a breaths length from touching, and his arms weren’t even pulled up to stop me.
He was letting me do this. The way he looked at me, with his brown eyes searching my face and his brow wrinkled with longing…
he wanted me just as badly as I wanted him. Whatever I was feeling, he felt it too.
I forgot my sons were in the house, or that they might overhear me. The words I’d been holding back during dinner slipped unbidden from my lips. “Your scent is driving me mad, omega.” Not even that was enough to convey how this felt, this insanity over him when we’d just met.
“I…” Casey said, his voice soft and low. “I’m sorry if I’ve…” He swallowed, his throat constricting as he tried to catch his breath. I wanted to put my hand around his neck and feel the way it moved when he swallowed. “…given you the wrong impression.”
The wrong impression. What did he think was happening here? I didn’t want this any more than he did.
“Casey?” Marshall’s voice called up the stairs, and we both flinched away from each other.
I turned to disappear into my room, looking back at the same moment the omega did. Our eyes met across the hall, the heat between us raging like an inferno, undimmed and clawing for attention. “That was my foot under the table.”
He gasped, his eyes as wide as saucers, and he sprinted down the stairs to get away from me.
Yes, little lamb. Stay far, far away from me.
If you can.
