Chapter 18
His scent. I inhaled the smells from the room.
Adam’s pheromones were mixed in with the sweet plants and fresh soil.
A rush of desire overtook me from my head to my toes, settling where I was already hard.
He smelled good before, but the scent of plants and dirt made his pheromones irresistible, and he wasn’t even here.
I stepped into the room, my bare feet touching the cool tile floor.
It was so tranquil in here. A little humid, but not too cold or too hot.
Was this his haven? When Adam felt sad or upset, did he come in here to calm down?
This had to be his space. I couldn’t see David caring if a plant lived or wilted, and Marshall wasn’t home enough to keep anything alive.
Did she like it here? Mrs. Wilson. I didn’t even know her first name.
Maybe it was something sweet like Kate or Paula.
What if Adam built this for her? That thought left a sour taste in my mouth.
I shouldn’t be prying like this. The more I knew about Adam, the more I wanted him, and that was the worst thing I could do.
I turned to leave and, fuck, he was here. Adam stood in the hallway, right beside the garden stairs. No sound gave away his arrival. He moved quietly, like a tiger on the prowl. And I was in his special room. Rushing across the sunroom, I tripped over my feet and fell face first onto the tile.
Before I could even react, he was there, his hands gripping my shoulders to help me up. My hands and face stung, and my knee ached. His thumb swiped across my upper lip, coming away streaked with blood.
