55. Liam

Chapter 55

Liam

I rush downstairs and freeze at the sight before me. The living room is engulfed in chaos. Vampires, about seven of them, have invaded our home. My eyes scan the room frantically, searching for any sign of Selene, Blake, or Levi, but they’re nowhere to be seen.

My mother stands protectively in front of Alyssa, fiercely protective.

In a state of panic, Grayson has shifted into his wolf form, growling and snarling at the intruders.

Layla, beside him, holds a flame of fire in her hand, ready to defend our family.

Colt and my father are standing by side next to the entryway.

I recognize the woman among the vampires—it’s the same one I had trailed that very first time, the one I suspected to be in cahoots with Selene. It must be Katya.

“What the hell?”

What do they want?

And where the fuck is my mate?

My mind is racing with adrenaline-fueled thoughts. “Grayson, stay close to me,” I command, moving to stand beside my mother.

Grayson nods in response, with his eyes fixed on the vampires.

“What do you want?” I call out to the vampires.

Katya, steps forward, a cold and calculating smirk playing on her lips. “Liam, was it?”

“What makes you think you could come into my family home and attack us? How stupid are you?” I say as I let my claws come out.

“What do you mean? We keep defeating you. Is this such a hard concept to understand? Thomas,” she beckons to the vampire right behind her.

“Yes, my love!”

I almost want to laugh at the absurdity of the scene before us.

“Remember the instructions. Only council members die,” she lashes out.

Fuck!

“Not on my watch!” my father says as he leaps, turns into a wolf mid-air, and rips Thomas’ head off in one quick movement.

Everyone is frozen in shock for a whole thirty seconds.

Then Colt lets out a low whistle. “Damn, Dad, I didn’t know you had that in you.”

After that, all hell breaks loose. My mother is shooting energy balls at the vampires as Emmett and Grayson circle around a younger-looking vampire.

Katya lets out a loud scream as she rushes towards Layla, who uses magic to throw her across the room.

I am almost giddy with excitement as I charge towards Katya. She is the clue to finding my mate.

Katya is poised to go after Layla again when I whistle.

Her eyes are angry.

Good.

I want her angry. I want her in pain. I want her to pay.

“You bastard!” she screams.

“Tell me where Selene is?”

She lets out a loud, cruel laugh. “I don’t think so. You and your family are going to pay for what you did to my Thomas—all of you.”

My claws are itching for her.

They are the ones who are going to pay.

“Are you sure about that?” I growl.

I lock eyes with Katya. Her gaze is filled with malice as she prepares to attack. Adrenaline surges through my veins, and I brace myself for the confrontation ahead.

I lock eyes with Katya, and she lunges at me, her fangs bared and claws extended. I let out my claws and use my werewolf strength to fend off her vicious strikes. It’s a deadly flurry of claws and fangs.

I swipe at her, aiming for her throat, but she dodges with lightning speed, narrowly avoiding my attack. She counters with a series of swift strikes, aiming for vulnerable spots. I grit my teeth against the pain and, with a growl of determination, push back against her onslaught.

Suddenly, I see my chance. Katya hesitates for a split second, and I seize the opportunity, launching myself at her with all my strength. My claws find their mark, tearing through flesh as I aim for her throat.

Katya lets out a guttural scream of pain, her eyes wide with shock as blood spurts from the wound. She staggers backward, clutching at her throat in a desperate attempt to stanch the flow.

“Where is Selene?” I demand menacingly as I loom over her.

Katya’s gaze flickers with fear and defiance, but I can see in her eyes that she knows her fate.

“I will ask you just one more time, Katya. Where the fuck is she?”

“Why should I tell you? I am going to die anyway.”

I pounce on her and pin her to the ground. “This is not a war you can win. We have you outnumbered. How about I let one of my brothers bite you? You know how nasty wolf bites are to vampires.”

“You wouldn’t do that…” she whispers.

I can hear my father’s growl behind me. He’s attacked one of the other vampires. They are losing and losing badly.

“Try me, Katya. Because I could make this hurt a lot more.” I dig my claw into her jaw and push.

She is gurgling, almost choking on her own blood.

“Hargrave’s mansion,” she gasps. “Northwest. Three miles from here.”

I nod and deliver the final blow, tearing out her throat with a swift, decisive motion. Blood sprays across the room as Katya’s lifeless body crumples to the floor.

Breathing heavily, I turn to face my mother. “Mom,” I call out. “I know where Selene is. Hargrave’s mansion. We have to go now.”

“Ambrose’s place? Figures.”

“Yes. I have to get there now.”

“I can’t leave,” she says. “We have things to handle here. But as soon as we are done, I will be right behind you. Take Colt with you.”

“I am right behind you, brother,” Colt groans. He’s back in human form and buttoning up his shirt as he makes his way over to follow me out the door.

“Okay, Mom.”

“Go get your mate, Liam. We’ve got it from here.” Then to Colt, “Take care of your brother.”

“I will,” Colt nods. “Now, let’s go.”

“I love you, Mom,” I say as I run out of the house.

“I love you too, Liam.”

There is still the sound of claws biting into flesh as we get into my car.

Colt jumps into the passenger’s seat as we pull out of the driveway.

“Ready bro?” Colt says.

“ Fuck yes!”

I am finally going to get my girl.

Selene is waiting for me, and I won’t rest until I have her safely by my side.
