Chapter 20
Chapter Twenty
~Thane~
"I’m guessing she wasn't there again?" I ask Raidon as he walks in, finally getting home. All week, Raidon has taken Leon to the strip club looking for the Omega. I fucking knew this would become an issue from the first night he fed on her.
"Yep, we waited until we spotted the manager. She didn't know who we were talking about, so she must be the new night manager to fill in for Bree. I haven't seen her before," Raidon answers as Leon shoves past him. I try to grab him, but he slaps my hand away.
Leon storms past and goes down to our Den, no doubt to go looking through the blood bags, though he won't find what he is looking for. Most of them are either our blood or donated blood from the blood banks, which do not stock Omega blood, given its addictive qualities.
I could probably source some, however, by making a few calls.
It is fucking pricey, though, which is half the reason we searched for an Omega, not wanting to chuck him into rehab in the first place.
Though another stint looks to be in the cards at this rate.
Great, the media will have a fucking field day, just what we need.
Tal and Bree can’t help us. They are both out of the country, visiting Tal's parents.
Leon refuses to feed on us, and I am on the verge of ordering him to. He is ravenous, and I had to keep him home from work for the past two days. One sip of Omega blood and he has relapsed entirely.
"Leon, now!" I order. I hate ordering them, hate taking their free will, but even Rhen suggested it on the way home.
"What are we going to do? He can't keep going on like this," Raidon asks worriedly. I hear stomping up the steps as he comes back from our basement Den. The last time I had been down there was when we built the Den for Harlow, and I haven't been back there since.
I usually send the others down there. I can't stand seeing what could have been.
Our pack would have been complete with Harlow, but she had to go kill my mother and get herself killed in those damn woods.
There is no way she would have survived out there; though we searched, and still continue to, holding onto hope but knowing the chances are slim.
It is rogue territory; unsafe even to pack wolves due to the high numbers of rogues in the area.
Even if we had found her, I probably would have killed her for what she did to my mother.
My mother didn't deserve that. She was so excited when she learned we found an Omega, and so were both my fathers.
Leon comes up from the basement, his clothes all wrinkled, and he is a mess.
His eyes are bloodshot, showing no white left.
His fangs haven't retracted in two days, and he is turning crazed—another reason I couldn't let him be at work. With Zara there, it is too risky. If he fed on her, she could sue us. Or, even worse, I’d have to cover up her death when he overfed on her.
Thinking of her, I curse, remembering the most recent impossible task I gave her.
I even called the dry cleaners to make sure they would arrive with only twenty minutes spare, knowing a bus or taxi would take her at least thirty-five minutes to get here.
Well, at least now I have reason to fire her.
I smile at the thought before waving at Leon to join me where I'm sitting on the sofa.
"You need to feed," I tell him as he steps closer.
Raidon moves behind him, blocking his exit.
Rhen slips silently into the living room, taking up the exit to the foyer.
Leon glances around and growls, not liking the way we cage him in.
He almost appears rabid. I know he doesn't want our blood, but it is better than him starving because he has been craving Omega blood all week.
He also stopped eating, which isn't good and only makes him worse.
I hate seeing him like this, hate the feelings of longing and despair I get from him through the bond, the starvation he feels.
"Come here," I order and he tries to fight the command.
I growl at him, throwing the total weight of my Alpha command behind it when I heard the intercom button for the front gate.
Everyone freezes, and I drop the command, looking at Rhen.
I nod to him, and he wanders to the front door to see who is on the screen. "Who is it?" I call out while watching Leon.
"Uh, it is Zara," Rhen calls back to me, and I jump up. "Fucking impossible," I curse. There is no way she could get here in time.
"It is definitely her," Rhen says, poking his head around the corner of the entrance. I glance at my watch and curse. Fuck, how did she get here so fast? That second of distraction cost me as Leon bolts past me and out the door as soon as Rhen hits the button to let her in.
"Grab him!" I call to Rhen, only to hear him get knocked over and the sound of breaking glass as the vase hits the floor from its home on the hallway stand.
Raidon growls, chasing after him. I give chase too, ripping Rhen to his feet as I pass him.
He is on his back, on the floor where Leon had tackled him.
But Leon, being a damn hybrid, is way faster than us, and by the time we reach the door, he is long gone.
"Fuck!" I scream, chasing after him, when I hear her voice.
"Leon?" she asks before I hear her blood-curdling scream.
