Chapter 13 #3

“I’m not going to just stand by and let that dog paw someone I want.”

“You’re thinking with your dick instead of your brain,” Rowena chided. “If Fen wasn’t interested in Selene, would you even give her a second look?”

Daniel scoffed and snuck another glance at Selene.

Rowena wasn’t wrong. Not completely. His dick was definitely leading the charge toward Selene, but that wasn’t a new thing.

She was an itch he’d always wanted to scratch, but he’d never managed to talk her into a hookup.

It bugged the hell out of him. Women didn’t turn him down.

“Is it because you fucked up with your wife and you think Selene’s a good replacement?” Rowena pressed. “I guess that makes sense. God knows you’ll need someone to take care of the kid when you turn her. Teenage vampires are a nightmare. And that’s saying something.”

Daniel snarled at Rowena. “Never talk about Emma. I’ve told you that before, and I mean it.”

He didn’t need to be reminded that he fucked up with her.

“Whatever.” Rowena rolled her eyes. “I’m right, though. You should find someone to play Mom. No way in hell it’s gonna be me.”

“I wasn’t asking.” He took a pull from his glass, forgoing the straw.

The blood was lukewarm. Tolerable, but it left him longing for the hot flood of copper pumping against his tongue when he sank his fangs into someone.

There was nothing better. Sex was a close second.

Very close. At the moment he was still getting pussy on the regular, even if he was a little bored with his playmate.

But it had been way too long since he’d sucked a person dry.

The fucking rules of this town. And all because of some wolf blowhard.

Daniel couldn’t wait to turn the tables on Fenris.

The sweetest thing would be to make the werewolf watch while he drained and fucked Selene at the same time.

That would be tricky to pull off, but man it would be incredible.

A tranquilizer dart and silver chains. He could take down the wolf, restrain him with chains that would burn the motherfucker the whole time.

Daniel would have to wear gloves when he was wrapping Fenris up, but that was a small inconvenience with a big payout.

He got hard thinking about it and had to adjust the sudden bulge in his jeans.

“When I turned you, I told you what it would mean,” Rowena said in a plaintive tone. “You seemed happy enough with the concept at the time.”

“I don’t regret the change.” Daniel reverted his attention to her instantly. He needed Rowena to make this work. She watched his back and fed him information via Marie, who she was friends with from way back. “You know how much it means to me, Row. But Allie is my kid.”

“We just came to town to see what was up,” Rowena countered. “You only got possessive when you found out about the wolves.”

“Would you want your daughter hooking up with a wolf?” Daniel snarled. “No way I’m letting that go on. And Fenris doesn’t get happily ever after with Selene. Fuck that guy.”

He couldn’t stand that Allie was crushing on some furball.

She was Daddy’s little girl, always staring at him with those big eyes like he was a superhero every time he came home.

He didn’t remember a lot about that time in his life, but he remembered that, and it had rocked.

Sure, she was more grown up now, but she could sure as hell show a little loyalty to her father.

Rowena shrugged. “I’m not saying I wouldn’t be happy to mess with Fenris Hall. He’s a pompous ass. And it’s not like you’re the first vamp to want the partner and rug rats for all eternity. Though the appeal is beyond me. Kids. Ugh.”

She gave a little shudder.

“You wouldn’t abandon me now, would you?” Daniel reached under the table to give her thigh a squeeze. “Not after all the good times we’ve had.”

He had to be sure he was managing Rowena. She got whiny if she felt ignored.

“I brought you to Avondale, didn’t I?” Rowena leaned toward him.

She took his hand and dragged it farther up her leg.

“And I stayed with you and joined this coven. I’m still not sure if I like it.

I’ve always been a drifter. And why I’m hanging around when you want to throw me over for a couple of humans is beyond me. ”

“I’m not throwing you over, Row.” He flashed a tantalizing smile at her as he lied.

The truth was, he needed a change. Rowena had turned him, and he was grateful to her for showing him the ropes of being immortal and all that shit.

But it bugged him that being so much older than him, she was stronger.

He kept imagining the fear in Selene’s eyes while he held her down.

She’d fight him, he was sure of that. But in the end, she’d give it up and beg for more.

Yeah. Selene would be perfect for him. And Rowena was starting to get clingy. He’d given her a decade. What more did she expect?

Daniel scooted his chair closer so he could cup her pussy under the table. “You’re my first and last, babe. And I promise we’ll have fun with Selene. Sharing is caring, right?”

She laughed and blew him a kiss, squirming against his teasing fingers. “As long as we’re clear, I’m not made for Stepford. I want the road life.”

Daniel sat back, and she made a pouty lip that he ignored. “We can get out of here, get back on the road, as soon as I work out what’s going to happen with Selene and Allie. It won’t be much longer. I promise.”

Rowena’s eyes flashed. “If you manage to seduce that woman out of the wolf’s arms, you’d better be ready to get out of town. You’d better be ready to run like hell.”
