Chapter 18
Posey’s Fan Club
Me
SOS. Need you two to throw some of your shirts into a basket with any fancy bath shit you can find in Jude’s bathroom. The smellier the shirts, the better. Just yours, not Judes.
Mack
First of all, love the chat name. Makes us sound like simps.
Paxton
Which we are.
Mack
Exactly, sunshine twin.
Me
GUYS. Please. I’m begging you. Do what I asked and leave it outside of Posey’s door. And maybe leave a change of clothes out for me if you can, Pax.
Paxton
What’s going on, Park? Is Posey okay?
Me
She’s fine but I ran into her at the library and long story short she’s going through a heat spike or something. Trying to help her through it but didn’t want her first time to be in the fucking library archives.
Mack
You’re lucky I like you or I would be petty out of spite.
Paxton
For once I agree with the big guy.
Me
Just… please. We’ll be there in less than 10.
Posey whines, fingers clawing at my shirt like she’s trying to get it off.
The longer she goes without an orgasm, the more hazy she gets.
We need to get out of the library without any other alphas scenting her.
It’s almost ten, so it should be relatively empty by now.
I might lose my job for abandoning my post all night, but it would be worth it.
I grab the whimpering omega by the thighs and haul her up so she’s wrapped around me like she was when we came down here, only this time she licks my neck and almost makes me stumble.
“No, omega.” The command is nearly a bark, and I instantly soften my tone.
“Not here, please. Wait until we get home. You want your nest, don’t you? ”
Her head pops up, pink hair flying everywhere as she nods wildly. I won’t tell her right now, but she looks so fucking pretty like this. With her flushed cheeks, bright eyes, messy hair and swollen lips, she looks like a goddess.
And I can’t wait to worship at her altar.
Just imagining her pink hair spread out on my navy sheets has me ready to go again. It’s a good thing my work pants are black or the fact that I came the second I tasted her perfect pussy would be really fucking obvious.
Campus is usually pretty quiet on a Wednesday night, so I’m not expecting to run into anyone on our way back to the Lighthouse.
Which is why when a small redheaded omega and her pissed-off looking alpha jump out to block my path, I nearly shout in surprise and tuck Posey’s face back into my neck, immediately purring to keep her calm.
My hand goes to the back of her head to hold her there in case there’s a problem.
My instincts are riding me to keep her safe until we can get to her nest.
“Jesus fuck!” After a second, I recognize the alpha standing in front of me and raise my brows. “Ward. It’s good to see you and I’d love to stop and chat, but—”
The omega follows when I try to sidestep the large alpha, letting out a truly pathetic sounding growl. “What the hell are you doing with my cousin? And why does she look like that?”
I look at the omega more closely and a lightbulb goes off when I remember what Posey told me in the library. “You’re the cousin. Maisie?”
She nods, wary but mildly appeased. “Listen, Posey went into a heat spike in the library and the longer we’re out here the less lucid she is. I’m not going to disrespect her privacy by saying too much more than that but I realized we needed to get out of there so we’re headed to the Lighthouse.”
“How do we know she even knows who you are? Or that she’s safe with you?
Maybe we should just—” she reaches for my omega, and a growl unlike anything I’ve ever let out before escapes before I can pull it back.
Ward grabs Maisie by the hips and drags her behind him, but doesn’t growl back.
In fact, his hands go up in a placating gesture.
“Baby girl, her scent is all over him. Lily told you Posey went through a heat recently, and finding a scent match or compatible pack so soon after could throw her right into another one.”
My alpha is snarling in my mind, demanding we get our omega away from this other alpha.
It doesn’t seem to matter that the bite mark on his neck clearly signals that he’s bonded.
Hearing my omegas name in another alphas mouth is about to throw me into a rut.
I finally manage to find my voice again after a few tense seconds.
“I can give you my phone number and ask Posey to call you when she’s lucid so you know she’s safe and I didn’t take advantage of her.
I swear she will be unharmed and unbonded when she does reach out.
” I rub Posey’s back gently, trying to rouse her, but my purr must have lulled her to sleep.
“Fine.” Maisie grits out. “But if you hurt one hair on my cousin’s head, I will take that metal bat she loves so much to your dick and maim you so thoroughly your children’s children won’t be able to procreate. Got it?”
If she didn’t look so serious I’d probably laugh. But I don’t want to make a bad impression on my omega’s family. Ward, however, has no such qualms.
“Damn baby girl,” he chuckles. “That was a good one. I can’t wait to tell Theo.”
I give her a shaky thumbs up, already skirting past them.
I can see the Lighthouse just ahead, and my alpha relaxes the closer we get.
Of course the front door to our pack apartment is cracked open, two sets of eyes peeking out like the creeps they are.
“She’s asleep,” I murmur when I get close enough.
“I need to wake her up to get her keys, but we ran into her cousin on the way back and got held up. My purr put her right out.”
My brother and Mack tiptoe out, matching dopey grins on their faces as they watch her snuggle further into my neck. Mack reaches out a tentative hand and brushes some hair away, sighing when he finally sees her face. “I know I just saw her this morning, but fuck I missed her.”
Pax comes up on my other side, eyeing me. “You good?”
I nod, not taking my eyes off of her. With how feral my alpha is right now I don’t trust myself to look at another alpha for too long. Not even my pack mates. “I’m good. If she’s lucid and feeling more herself I’ll just tuck her in and come home. But if she needs me I’ll stay.”
He sighs, tracing the blush still staining her cheek. The color makes her freckles stand out in the best way and I can’t wait to tell her how adorable I find them. “We need to tell her who we are. I don’t like feeling like we're lying to her.”
Mack and I exchange a glance but nod in agreement. It’s past time she learns we’re her neighbors. I just hope she isn’t too upset when she finds out who the fourth member of our pack is, especially given everything Jude has been putting her through.
“Remind me to talk to you later. She said something about Jude… god, she’s just so sweet.
Apparently he was pretty rude to her, but she didn’t say anything bad about him.
Just said he makes her really anxious. He needs to pull his head out of his ass before he says or does something he can’t take back. ”
Their concern is palpable in the air, but I shoo them back to the apartment and wait for the door to click shut before rousing the sleepy girl in my arms. “Hey, flower, we’re home.
Can you tell me where your keys are so I can get you inside?
” I realize a second too late I shouldn’t know where she lives, and I pray she is too out of it to realize she never told me.
Posey’s head pops up as she looks around in confusion, but then a sweet little smile tilts her lips. “If I give you my keys, will you stay with me?”
My head tilts as I study her intently. She’s still warm and her eyes are a little glassy, but she seems at least a little bit clearer than she did at the library.
“Sure, baby. I’ll stay.” I glance down, pretending to be surprised by the basket of clothes on the mat.
“Oh, looks like someone left you something.”
“Ooh! Gimme!” She makes grabby hands, and I have to bite my lip to hold back a laugh.
“Keys first, flower.”
“Oh. Right.” She hops down from my arms and digs in her bag, coming back with a set of keys on a pink rose keychain.
I wonder if I could get a copy of those without her noticing…
Okay, maybe I need to chill out a little bit.
She unlocks the door and grabs her basket of goodies, leaving me staring at her from the porch.
The basket is propped on her hips when she turns around, a hip cocked out to hold it.
An image of a baby sitting on her hip in place of the laundry basket comes to mind, and I have to bite my lip to stifle the pleased growl that tries to escape at the idea of her having my baby.
Her foot taps, knocking me out of visions of the future.
She stares me down as she crosses her arms over her chest. “Well, are you comin’ or not? ”
A chuckle does slip out this time at how much stronger her accent is right now. “Yes, ma’am.”
