Chapter 15 #3

And the rain fell. Ecstasy drowned me, pulling me under, until I didn’t know which way was up and which was down. Vaeron continued to lick and suck, moaning like he couldn’t get enough of me.

Body still buzzing, he exited me, leaving me bereft.

In one smooth movement, he rose and ripped off his pants, revealing his weeping cock. He stroked it, slow, tantalizing, teasing, before lining it with my entrance. “Lie to me again.”

“I hate you,” I panted, gaze sweeping over his thick, hard length. My center pulsed at the memory of how he’d felt inside me before.

With a brutal thrust, he seated himself to the hilt. Each inch he gave me reminded me of all the reasons I had not to loathe him.

I groaned, adjusting to his size. He was so much bigger than two of his fingers.

With aching slowness, he dragged himself out only to slam in again. My arousal gushed between us, marking each of his thrusts with an audible slap.

He curved over me, capturing my lips again. I lost myself in the tide of him, body moving like it remembered this from lives long forgotten. Like we were truly made for each other, carved from opposite sides of the same stone.

I was defiance. He was duty.

Neither of us could overcome our desire.

“I hate that you tricked me. I hate that you kept things from me.”

He met me with another harsh pulse. “Wound me with your words, little fugitive.”

“I hate the cage you put me in. I hate that you hunted me.”

His tongue delved deeper into my mouth. I looped my arms around his neck, holding him close. “I hate that you helped me heal. I hate that you make me feel safe.”

My mate speared into me, hitting that spot deep inside that made stars dance in my vision.

“I hate that I still love you.”

His cock throbbed, pulling a whimper from my throat.

“I love your storm, even though it causes me so much grief. I love that you can be exactly who you are. I love that you are everything I am not.”

His kiss turned brutal, possessive, along with his thrusts. Air fled my lungs, his fury mixing with mine to drive ecstasy higher. My walls fluttered as I starleaped toward my next release.

Sweat dripped from him onto me as he reared back, ice-blue irises locking with mine.

“Together, we can move mountains. Together, we can save our realm. Together, we can do anything.”

The conviction shone all the way to his soul. I ceased breathing from the force of it.

He reached between us, fingers circling my clit. “Now show me how well we come together. Be my good girl and soak my cock.”

That was all it took to send me crashing, careening, collapsing. “Vaeron,” I whimpered his name, eyes rolling back.

“Sylaira,” he groaned, hardness pulsing inside me as his release engulfed him too.

Together, we drifted through bliss, movements slowing, chests brushing as they dragged in air.

“Stay with me tonight,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to my damp temple.

Damn him. In this state, I couldn’t say no.

Yet the thought of sleeping in another tent made our bond rear up and gnash its teeth. It didn’t want us apart now that some of the yawning chasm between us had closed.

I flattened my hand over the source of my magic like I could calm its antics. Because despite the explosive orgasm we’d shared, he still hadn’t apologized. He still couldn’t admit that he might have been wrong to leave me out of his plans.

“If I say yes, it changes nothing,” I told him, even though I knew it would change everything. It would be admitting what I was not ready to voice.

He exited me, fetching a pitcher of water and a towel. Wetting it, he swiped it over my sensitive center, cleansing me. “I know.”

“And we won’t be sharing this.” I gestured to the plush cushions around us.

“That is fine,” he agreed, almost too quickly.

I narrowed my eyes as he found his pants and put them back on. Why wasn’t he fighting with me? It was so much easier to hold fast to my conviction to loathe him when he was.

It was like he knew exactly how to unravel me—like he remembered the steps he’d taken in our previous dance.

I dressed quickly while he ducked out, returning minutes later dragging my trunk and the bed that had already been set up in my tent.

Goddess, he was strong. Even without access to his Command, he was still powerful. Imposing. Dangerous.

Stupid, stupid, Sylaira. What have you done now?

Cursing my weakness, I settled across from him, exhaustion tugging at my limbs. For once, I wasn’t trying to fall asleep with my keepers’ eyes pricking my skin. Though there’d been a wall of canvas between us, their attention had the power to pierce it.

When we emerged together in the morning, I had no doubt that they’d report our overnight stay directly to Iaoth. I couldn’t so much as sneeze without that message reaching her.

But now, with the Issaraeth having sent them away, my shoulders dropped from my ears. Even if the open bars to my cage were temporary, they were enough to allow relief to slip in. My breathing evened out. My lashes caressed my cheeks.

Despite the regret lingering in my veins, I sank into the deepest sleep I’d had in weeks.
