CHAPTER NINE

BASTILLE

It looks like I will be the last to find my mate. I’m not sad, but I am worried I will be like Uncle Luc, who is still waiting or in a similar situation to Uncle Nic, whose mate died when they were young.

Tim has told me not to worry. It will happen when it is time, but I can’t help mine or my bear's feelings.

I’m currently hiding in Ember's studio, staring at her fantastic work. My baby sister is amazing. I shift my position to look at another painting and startle at my tiny sister.

“Sorry, baby sister, I didn’t mean to startle you.” She smiles at me, ignoring the fact that I was startled, not her.

“It's okay. I was looking for you, actually, I didn’t know I would find you hiding here, in any case! Are you okay?” I give her half a smile and a nod. She frowns slightly but doesn’t push, putting her laptop in front of me.

“I’ve spoken to Dan’s lawyer and asked if he can arrange early access to one of the properties Dan and Elise left me in their will” She turns the laptop to face me,

“I got these sent this morning. He can give access for work to be done, but I can’t move in until I turn eighteen.

He said that he didn’t mention doing it, but having staff live there so the older ones could move in and be listed as live-in security.

” I chuckle at the loopholes she’s found.

It’s a beautiful building, and most of it looks like the original work.

“It’s an hour's drive from here, but only a twenty, maybe a thirty-minute walk through the woods. Could you and Timber come with me and look to see how much work needs to be done? I know it doesn’t have electricity, and I’m unsure about indoor plumbing, even though bathrooms are listed, I was thinking solar panels and a hydro generator on the river to make it as eco as we can?

” I nod along with what she’s saying while swiping through the photos.

She hands me a notepad with a sketch of the aerial shot.

There is a main cabin, and some smaller ones with barns; she’s covered everything.

I chuckle, she has been randomly asking Tim and me things over the last week or so, and peeking at the plans we have on jobs we have been doing, so she has various things marked that we would normally have to add ourselves.

“This building might be the first and easiest sort.” as she points to the outbuildings, she lists their uses, a cabin for the litter, a Barn to convert for the scary demon trio, a cabin for Bray and his mates, a cabin for a housekeeper that she wants a greenhouse attaching to, a pack hospital with accommodation above for Xander, a workshop for Kodi and a huge Garage for Pax.

“Maybe ask Liam if he has any trusted staff who want a promotion within his household for the housekeeper position. I recommend a few cleaners too, even if they are part-time like Uncle Nic has here, they live on the outskirts of town but only do two days each, they all have a second job doing something in town.” She gives me a nod and jots down a note on another page.

I perk up when she says that if trees are fallen or need to be moved, we can use them for whatever, she would like a couple of trails between there, and TripleMoon cleared, as it makes sense.

Timber and I plan to open a sawmill and use our own products when we fully launch our construction company, so her offering is a huge help, but it does mean we need to find one to rent until then, but that’s not a problem.

We agree to head over tomorrow morning after the guys go to school, Em wants a basic plan in place before she tells the guys, I head through to find Tim but find a moping big bro with mooney eyes and a pout because Victoria left without saying bye, just a note, yup glad I haven’t found my mate yet, my bear chuffs out a chuckle at my thought.
