Chapter 14

?

Anderson understood exactly how Pamela felt.

His own reaction had been similar. Yet he also knew that the underlying circumstances could be tough to swallow.

Although he wouldn’t be very understanding about anything that involved Talia, there still had to be some motivation behind what was going on.

The fact that Tim had come back to the house meant he needed something here.

That thought struck a chord and helped him focus his attention on that for a few moments.

“Are you okay to look after the babies now that they’re up?

I’ll help you change them, but then I want to search the house.

Plus, check the security feed about two weeks before the attack on Talia.

It can’t be a random attacker any longer.

And the silence from the cops is really pissing me off now because we are so belatedly stepping into this case.

Had I known earlier, we would have stepped up to do our own investigation, just ignoring these local cops. ”

She frowned at him and then nodded. “That could supply some missing information, even not known to the cops. So doing that makes sense.”

“Tim came back home for a reason,” Anderson repeated. “We need to figure out what that reason was, and the best way we have to do that is to find what he’s looking for, then plan our next step from there. Hopefully Tim can take care of whatever nightmare is happening in his world.”

“I have to admit that he looked more terrified than scared,” she shared.

“Right. And that goes along with the theory that somebody, somewhere, may be yanking his chain.”

She nodded. “I’m hoping that’s what is happening. I would really hate to think that he did this to Talia himself.”

“Yeah, I don’t want to see that either,” he agreed, “but I don’t exactly live in fairyland.”

She winced. “No, I think you’ll probably be a hard-ass about it all.”

“If you went to look in at my sister in the hospital,” he suggested, “you would be a hard-ass too.”

“I don’t have to,” she stated. “I’m already protective of these babies. So you look after your sister, and I’ll make sure that the Lisas are just fine.”

At the mention of the Lisas, they shared a good laugh.
