Chapter 5

A’yanna Joseph

A Week Later

Everyone swore up and down I had a mean streak in me.

My mom swore I got it from my daddy, but if you asked me, I was too fucking nice.

I had a bad habit of saying yes to shit I should have said no to.

Which is why I was sitting in Will’s Benz frowning my ass off.

The last place I wanted to be was anywhere near this nigga, but he’d begged me to come to his mama’s birthday party.

Reminded me that I agreed to go with him prior to finding out he’d been fucking my cousin.

I would have told Will to kiss my black ass if he didn’t have his mama, Mrs.Connie, call me to confirm I was coming.

I liked Mrs.Connie. although I’d only been around her once or twice, she’d always been a sweetheart towards me.

Against my better judgement, I let this nigga pick me up so I could go to this fucking BBQ.

I wanted to drive my own car so I could leave if Will started getting on my nerves, which I knew he would.

He’d already tried to come in my house when he picked me up.

I shut that down immediately. My time with Will had sailed, and I had no plans of revisiting it.

I was only here because I didn’t want to be rude to his mom.

My attitude had been on ten since all that shit with Niko.

I was mad at the fucking world because of that nigga.

My coochie was going through withdrawals that had me pissed.

We never got around to exchanging numbers.

I had no way to call his stupid ass. Which was probably for the best since I was likely to have a weak moment.

Niko had too much shit going on, and I had no desire to deal with a nigga who already had a bitch, that it seemed like he was nowhere near leaving.

I’d be better off being back with Will, and that wasn’t happening ever again.

I’d rather be single for the rest of my life before I did that.

I can’t lie, I was salty as fuck that Niko really had a girlfriend.

More so be it seemed like he really fucked with her.

I didn’t like that. I wanted to think the connection I had with Niko was special.

It was unique from anything he’d shared with anybody else, but seeing how quickly he switched up brought me back down to reality.

Now I was stuck mourning a relationship that never happened, and I felt crazy as fuck as all the what if’s ran through my head.

That was probably the real reason I agreed to go with Will.

I wanted to feel wanted, and the fact that Will begged me to go boosted my ego a little.

However, it was short lived. As soon as Will started trying to get back with me, I regretted my choices.

Will hadn’t shut the fuck up since we got in this car, and I was tempted to jump out on the highway just to get a peace of mind.

He hadn’t let up trying to convince me to give him a second chance.

I had to tell Will I was going to go home if he kept bothering me.

He caught on quickly. Will knew better than to call my bluff–the car ride had been silent since.

“Stop lookin’ so mean,” Will said, pulling into the packed parking lot of Eden Park. “At least act like you want to be here, damn.” Will huffed out like a little ass boy.

“I don’t want to fucking be here, and as soon as I see Mrs.Connie and make me a plate, I’m gone,” I told him as I gave him a dirty look. I can’t stand this nigga.

“Listen, though, my people from my daddy side here. Remember I told you about my brother? Him, his girl, and his other brothers are here. Ion wanna look bad in front of them. Can you take it easy on me? That nigga the plug, and I’m tryna get put on, you feel me?”

“You gotta fake impressing your brother to get put on?” I asked skeptically. Will sounded dumb as fuck. What kind of nigga had to put on for their brother?

“I mean, we brothers, but we weren't raised under the same roof. We ain’t grow up super close. I’m tryna change that though. Huh…” Will threw a stack of money on my lap. “Take that as an extra incentive to be nice to a nigga.”

“I mean, I guess,” I said, sliding the stack into my purse before looking back at Will. “Ion understand what the big deal is. You got money already.”

“Shiiit, it ain’t nothing like the money I ah see if the nigga look out for me.”

“Whatever you say,” I replied, getting out of the car, pulling my shorts out the crack of my ass. I frowned looking over at Will.

The mangy ass nigga didn’t even try to open my door for me.

Niko would never let me open a door. Fuck Niko.

I had to correct myself. Still, I didn’t like having to open my own doors anymore.

Niko low key spoiled me over those three days.

Simple shit like opening a door seemed like too much work for me.

I made a mental note my next nigga had to open all my doors for me.

“What now, Yanna?” Will noticed the deep scowl on my face.

“Nothing, nigga,” I spat rudely, slamming his door shut before switching off towards the music.

“And you need to throw these little ass shorts away too!” Will said, coming up behind me trying to pull my shorts down.

I swatted at his hands, I didn’t see the problem with my outfit. I had on light denim shorts with a white fitted sleeveless shirt, brown slides with the matching bucket hat, and purse. I was cute without doing too much. I wasn’t trying to impress nobody in Will’s family.

“You need to kiss my ass.” I flipped him off as he walked ahead of me.

“Anytime, baby girl.” He looked back at me winking, and I groaned, following him.

We walked to the park shelter that was filled with people. I saw the “Welcome Home” decorations that led up to the shelter. Instantly, I got pissed.

“Nigga, this don’t look like no fucking birthday for your mom!” I snapped, pulling Will back by his arm.

“Man. Her party is next week, but I wanted you to come with me today. My pops throwin’ my brother a welcome home party. He just got out. I knew you wouldn’t have come if I just asked you to pull up with me.”

It took everything in me not to slap fire from Will’s stupid ass.

“Boooy, take me the fuck home noow!” Will had me fucked all the way up.

I wasn’t fucking with him or his jailbird ass brother.

Both them niggaS could jump off a cliff holding hands for all I cared.

I only came with Will off the strength of his mama.

“Please, Yanna, do me this last favor, and I’ll leave you alone forever. I done bragged on yo’ ass so much these niggas don’t think you real. I told them I was finna bring you, and my brother said if you as bad as I claimed, he gon’ put me on.”

I poked my lips out. I can't lie, he stroked my little ego knowing Will was out here bragging on me like I was the baddest bitch in the world. Pressing my lips together, I rolled my eyes knowing I wasn’t going nowhere.

I wanted whoever these niggas where to see I was the in fact baddest in the room.

“I guess.” I faked an attitude waving Will off. He looked so happy as he grabbed my hand, leading me into the sea of people.

I saw a few familiar faces that I'd seen over Will’s parents house, but I really didn’t know Will’s family that well, aside from his parents and younger brother, Maxwell, those were the main people I’d been around.

After greeting Mrs.Connie and reassuring her I would be at her party next week, which was a lie I made my way back beside Will.

I had to fight to keep myself from frowning.

I couldn't spend another day around Will faking it.

As soon as we got an audience, he started doing the most, wanting to kiss and touch me.

I had to keep pushing his hands off of me.

The nigga was getting way too comfortable.

“Daddy, where everybody at?” Will asked, and I was assuming he was talking about his brother and other young people. The people in this shelter were the older crowd.

“You see that shelter over there?” His dad pointed across the park to another shelter with a gang of niggas. “They went over there. Grannie didn’t like the music and the weed.”

“Alright, bet,” Will eagerly replied, taking my hand, pulling me with him.

I don’t know why, but I felt knots forming in my stomach the closer we got to the other shelter.

The scent of weed lingered in the air heavily, and the rap music became clearer and clearer.

I felt my palms sweating, and I wanted to snatch my hand from Will’s, but he had a tight grip on my hand as we approached a group of niggas a few feet from the shelter.

Seeing all the niggas looking like money had me curious which one was Will’s brother.

All of them were easy on the eyes, dressed in various name brands, all of them wearing jewelry covered in diamonds.

My nose turned up at the half naked females lingering around the shelter doing the most to get one of the nigga’s attention.

It was clear none of them were invited to the party, but that didn’t stop the thirsty birds from flocking.

“Gah damn. Yo’ perpin’ ass wasn’t lying, was you?” A brown skinned nigga was the first to speak to us. This nigga couldn’t be Will’s brother because they looked nothing alike. He disrespectfully eyed me, and I rolled my eyes at his rude ass.

“Tition, stop playin’, you know I don’t gotta reason to lie. My bitch certified.”

“Watch your mouth, Will,” I scoffed at Will. Yeah, him and these niggas were finna get cussed out.

“Fine and feisty,” the nigga Tition said, unbothered by my attitude.

“Nigga, chill. That’s why you got all them kids now,” Will said uneasily.

“Shit, I always got room for one more. Come on so we can show them niggas you wasn’t lying.” Titon nodded his head for us to follow him.
