Chapter Seven

Patsy moved closer to the clubhouse and she studied the outside of the building.

Her mom had told her Miss Amy was staying here and if anyone had the map she would.

She also told her that Miss Amy would keep the map as close to her as possible.

Grandpa Simon had growled about getting that map and hunting down the place marked with an x.

Since she got away from the law, she had to be the one who infiltrated the clubhouse to get the map. Patsy raised her finger to her mouth and tapped her well-manicured fingernail on her teeth. She was careful cause that nail job had cost her two hundred bucks.,

She had gotten the best of everything for the last couple of years, even though her family was poor as shit.

Her life’s motto was: if you don’t got it?

Take it. And many people were just plain stupid too.

They allowed you to roll over them if you were scary enough.

If she couldn’t force them to give her what she wanted, she would find something to blackmail them with.

All in all, she had made at least ten thousand dollars from her work.

She snickered to herself. Work. Well, sometimes it was.

She had to use a baseball bat, brass knuckles or break in to get her blackmail leverage sometimes.

This was why her mom brought her. If they couldn’t force Miss Amy to give them the treasure, then Patsy would break in and force Miss Amy to give her the map.

The clubhouse looked plain and normal to her but she knew there had to be a way inside.

She walked all the way around the outside and finally found a possible way inside.

Someone had left a window open on the backside of the building.

She might have to wait until dark fell but it was a possible way inside.

Then Patsy found a place to rest and she watched the clubhouse. After twenty minutes, she found herself getting bored... yet again. Glancing at the sky, she noted it was only about noon and she knew it could be hours before the sun went down.

She groaned as her boredom grew.

She got up to pace back and forth and glared at the open window. She understood that she had to wait but right then she was almost done waiting. The only thing that kept her away was the fact she’d seen Miss Amy being carried away in the truck that left.

Damnit, now what should she do?

With a sigh, she realized that she needed to talk to her mom.

Get an idea about what to do next. Then suddenly, Patsy’s phone rang and she frowned when she saw the number that came up.

It was a local number and she wanted to ignore it but she knew better.

She answered the call and when she heard her mother’s voice she relaxed a bit. “Hi mom.”

“Don’t you hi mom me, young lady,” Emma snapped. “You have to get inside the clubhouse and find that damn map.”

“Well mom, I can’t exactly just walk in through the front door now can I?” Patsy said snottily. “I found a way inside but I have until it's dark out, what’s the big rush?”

“The big rush is that Miss Amy brought in one of the pieces of the treasure and she was smug about showing it off. It was a heavy gold necklace and it was beautiful. It must be worth a million dollars at least. It was very old but my god, the gleam of that gold was stunning.”

“Mom, I can’t take any chances with this. If I get caught, then I’m sitting right next to you, ain’t I?” Patsy whined. “And I’m not one to sit in a jail cell.”

“Oh, shut up, you’ll sit where I tell you to sit. Look, your grandfather called in some more help,” Emma told her. “His attorney is coming and he’s bringing a couple of friends we can use for muscle if we need to. You just make sure you get that damn map.”

“I’ll try. I have to wait for it to get dark too.

But I ain’t getting caught.” Patsy ended the call before she had to listen to any more of her mother’s orders.

Rather than take the chance her mom might call back, Patsy turned her phone off and headed to the tree area she saw where she could rest for a while.

Inside the Wolverine’s clubhouse...

What Patsy didn’t know was the fact the Wolverines had cameras in those same woods.

Samson and Mad Dog were watching her every movement.

Then Stroker and Steel were making their way slowly to surround her.

They had walked along the truck as it left the gate and gotten into the woods just as the truck turned down the road.

Ink had been watching his screens since shortly after The Sheriff left. He’d found her almost right away and he had told them exactly where she was since Asa and the women left.

Stroker and Steel watched her looking for a way inside the fence and they hung back.

Rock stalked her from behind as he too watched and waited for her to make the next move. It was Rock that also noticed the open window and he texted that to Ink.

Rock waited for a return text and when it came in, he made eye contact with Stroker and nodded.

This told Stroker and Steel that the guys were aware of the open window.

The sound of a vehicle coming up the road broke the silence... Everyone froze.

The thief in hiding...

Patsy heard the engine as well. She ducked down and watched as the truck that left earlier, now returned. She growled as the truck parked outside the clubhouse.

Miss Amy, Cheyenne and Asa got out and went inside.

Still crouched down, Patsy knew she wasn’t getting inside until later. The afternoon passed slowly as she waited and grew more frustrated as time passed. She kept grumbling about her stupid ass grandpa and mother getting themselves caught. And now she had to sit in the dirt to do their job.

Finally, darkness began to throw shadows, so she got up and dusted her ass off. Then she walked over to the fence and got to the top of it. She lifted her leg over it. She jumped down then when she landed, she growled.

Looking back and forth to be sure no one was out here, she ran for the open window.

She peeked inside, the room looked dark and unused.

When she didn’t see anyone, she pushed the window open wider and reached to grab the frame to let herself inside.

“Just like cake. Easy to slice,” she muttered to herself.

She pushed herself into the dark room then picked herself up and got ready to move to the doorway.

Then she stopped as she sensed something wasn’t right. She could hear some kind of movement.

Suddenly, a click sounded in the room.

The lights came on.

Patsy slowly turned around to see who was in the room with her.

Her eyes widened as she saw four very large men sitting there, watching her.

She scrambled toward the door but the men moved in as a unit and then hands were on her shoulders stopping her from getting away.

Patsy screamed and fought to get herself loose but the strong hands held her tight.

Then her body was lifted high in the air and she screeched in panic.

“Well boys, what did we just find?” one of the men who held her asked.

“Looks like we found someone breaking into our clubhouse, doesn’t it?” another responded.

“A little nosy trespasser,” one of them agreed.

“I say we string her up,” one of them suggested.

“Yeah, and then we can use her as a workout bag, call her Miss Everlast.”

“Only she won’t last that long.”

They all laughed loudly.

“Or we can always shoot her and we’d be well within the law.”

“Like we could use her for target practice,” the second one said.

“Oh, yeah! That sounds like fun. One little bullet, two little bullets...OOPS!”

More laughter.

“Too bad we never miss though.”

They all snickered.

“Yeah, that would be too quick of a death for a lowdown, no good thief like her.” The largest one shook his head while looking disgusted.

“I wonder how many people were robbed by this little smelly urchin?”

“Probably lots,” one of them quipped. “Did you see how sneaky she was and brazen at the same time?”

“Yeah,” the one on her right agreed. “I bet she’s stolen lots of stuff.”

“Like thousands of dollars I bet,” the other one replied.

“I don’t like her,” the largest one said. “I say we tear her apart.”

“Well, we do have the right to defend our home,” the third man drawled as he took a very large gun from his vest and cocked it. “What do you think boys, should we just shoot her now and tell the law she invaded our house? I mean we don’t know this girl.”

“Yeah, little would-be robber, let’s see how far you can run,” the largest one taunted.

Then all four laughed again as they let her go.

Terrified and trembling badly, Patsy sank down to her knees and covered her head with her arms. “Please don’t hurt me!” she screamed in a tearful panic.
