“Chase, my dick is going to fall off if you don’t give me a chance to recover,” I laugh, as his big body presses me against the side of the pool, his hands planted on the concrete pool deck on either side of my shoulders.

“But the water feels so fucking good,” he whines.

I know we’re drawing stares, but I can’t tell if it’s because people recognize us from the news, or if we’re being obnoxiously affectionate.

Not that I really care either way.

Chase has his hand down my swim trunks when the movement of someone approaching catches my attention over Chase’s shoulder, and I extract his fingers from my shorts.

“Thought we recognized you two over here. You guys are quite the celebrities,” Camille says.

“That story was insane,” Kayla adds, setting her phone and drink on the edge of the pool as Chase moves me to stand in front of him, no doubt trying to conceal his erection.

“The whole fucking day was insane,” Chase laughs.

“I can’t even imagine,” Camille says. “We won’t interrupt long, as I’m sure you guys haven’t gotten a chance to really enjoy your vacation yet, but I, uh, I’m not sure where you’re from, but we saw the interview, and I just wanted to let you know that my aunt works at Dana-Farber, and I’d be happy to put you in touch. ”

Chase slaps the water in excitement, spraying us all.

“Are you serious?” he asks.

“Who’s Dana-Farber?” I ask, totally confused as I wipe water from my eyes.

“Not who, what. It’s one of the leading hospitals in the world for cancer treatment and research for adults and kids. They pioneered the first temporary remission of cancer in kids, which was a huge breakthrough in leukemia treatment. And it’s in Boston!” he practically yells.

Laughing, Camille says, “So, that’s a yes?”

“God, yes, please,” Chase says. “I’ll give you my phone number, email, Social Security number, blood type, bank account, dick size, whatever you need.”

“Let’s start with the phone number,” she replies, still laughing. “I can’t make any promises, but a lot of the time, medicine is about who you know.”

“Don’t I know it,” Chase grumbles.

Before anyone can dive into that comment, Kayla is handing her phone to Chase so he can type in his number. After that, they say their goodbyes, and Chase’s attention returns to me.

“This is unbelievable,” he says.

“Yeah,” I agree, getting hypnotized and distracted by the way he’s swaying his hips back and forth and the water running over his perfect, clean, inkless body.

He’s standing directly in front of me again, and his cock bumps against mine in the water.

The movement sends a rush of bubbles up my shorts, tickling my balls.

“Chase, you cannot get me off in a public pool.”

“That sounds an awful lot like a challenge, Buttercup,” he whispers in my ear, making me shiver despite the eighty-three-degree air.

“Nope,” I say in a strained voice as his hand dives into my shorts for the second time. “Not a challenge. A fact. I don’t want to get arrested for public indecency in Aruba.”

“But I need you.”

His words have me rock. Fucking. Hard.

Suddenly, our room feels ten miles away. Glancing around, I spot the waterfall feature in the pool.

“Come with me,” I say, slowly making our way toward the waterfall so we don’t draw attention… well, any more attention.

Shit, people are still watching.

Turning around, I place my hand on Chase’s chest.

“I’m going to go grab a drink from the bar. I want you to duck through the waterfall. There should be a cutout behind it because of that little bridge thing. I’ll meet you in there in five minutes, and maybe people won’t notice.”

Chase nods, and I take off for the bar. It takes closer to ten minutes for me to get my drink, and when I finally slip behind the wall of water, Chase already has his hand around his cock, his head thrown back, resting on the stone behind him with his lips parted.

“Starting without me?”

Chase’s eyes snap open, and his hungry gaze lands on me as he continues pumping his fist along his shaft. The sight is mesmerizing.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” he pants. “I feel like a dog in heat.”

Moving forward, I hand him the sex on the beach I ordered and take over the rhythm he’d set for himself, relishing the feel of him in my palm.

Leaning in close, I tell him, “There’s nothing wrong with you, baby.

For so long your focus has been elsewhere, your partner was elsewhere, and I’m sure the stress of medical school and a residency you didn’t love weighed heavily on not only your heart, but your dick as well.

Now that you’ve freed yourself from those burdens and have access to a man whose favorite thing in the world is making you come, your body is just playing catch-up. So, let it.”

Thankfully, the waterfall is loud, because so is Chase as he comes with a roar, his head dropping forward onto my shoulder.

“Feel better?” I ask, stroking his back.

“For now,” he says.

Chase and I cancel the rest of our excursions and spend the rest of our vacation drinking, sleeping, swimming, and fucking. We don’t leave the resort again, but we do grab dinner at one of the hotel restaurants with Camille and Kayla.

Chase is upbeat and definitely more of his carefree, goofy self than he has been since December, but when we land in Boston a couple of days later and he still hasn’t heard from Camille’s aunt, I know he’s starting to get nervous again.

It isn’t until four days after we get home that the call finally comes. Chase and I are cuddling on the couch like we do every night these days—and yes, I’m the big spoon—when an unknown Boston number flashes on his screen.

Muting our movie, Chase puts the call on speakerphone.

“Hello?”

“May I please speak with Dr. Matthews?”

“This is him,” Chase answers, standing up and grabbing the phone. I know he needs to pace for this conversation.

“Dr. Matthews. My name is Dr. Sarah Kelley. I’m one of four department heads of the pediatric oncology division at Dana-Farber.”

“Yes, ma’am. It’s an honor,” Chase says, getting choked up.

Even after everything we’ve been through in such a short amount of time, I’m not sure I ever understood just how much of a dream working in pediatrics was for him. But I get it now, as his eyes fill with tears of joy and gratitude.

“I believe you met my niece on a recent vacation. Camille spoke very highly of you, and I must admit, high praise from Camille is in short supply. I assumed you had made quite an impression, but then she directed me toward the news segment you were featured in, and I started to get a clearer picture. I’m sorry for not calling sooner, but I wanted to reach out to Declan Porter before making an offer.

Poaching another program’s residents isn’t a good look. ”

Chase flashes me a worried glance. We both know Dr. Porter isn’t his biggest fan.

“Um,” Chase stutters.

“He made me an interesting proposition,” Dr. Kelley goes on to say, keeping Chase and me hanging in the balance on her every word. “He wants your boyfriend back.”

“Excuse me?!” Chase says, echoing my thoughts.

Sarah laughs on the other end of the line.

“I don’t think that came out quite right. Declan told me your boyfriend had recently been let go for disobeying orders and retrieving a patient after he’d been grounded.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Chase answers, and I swear to God, if my subordination costs Chase the job of his dreams, I’ll tie my own noose.

“Well, Declan admires that spirit. One who still puts the patient first. He said he saw it in you as well, and feels trauma is losing a very capable and compassionate surgeon due to your recent choice, but he’ll happily let you go with a stellar, personal recommendation, if you could convince your boyfriend to return to Boston Memorial as their Life Flight pilot. ”

I swear Chase stops breathing.

Staring at me without blinking, Chase says, “Logan just accepted a position with the Coast Guard, so I’m sorry, but he—”

“Yes, I can!” I blurt.

Chase quirks a brow at me.

“I can do it,” I repeat. “I’ll have to negotiate the schedule and a few of the rules, but I can make it work, Chase. Tell her I’ll do it.”

Sarah hears me, of course, since she’s on speakerphone, and I hear her chuckle in response to my outburst.

“Wonderful. The four of us will meet Thursday afternoon at two p.m.”

“That sounds—wait,” Chase says. “I’m so sorry, Dr. Kelley, but I can’t do two.”

I look at Chase like he’s just lost his damn mind and hold my arms up.

Why not?

Dr. Kelley must be waiting for his explanation as well because she stays silent, and finally, Chase explains.

“There’s a little girl who was declared NEAD right before we left on this wonderfully disastrous trip. She’s being discharged Thursday afternoon, and I’ve waited two years to see this little girl walk out of the hospital. I can’t miss my Marcy Bear getting to go home.”

Oh Christ. Why is my fucking face wet?

“I understand completely, Dr. Matthews. Perhaps ten a.m. would suit you better?”

“Yes, ma’am. Thank you.”

“I’ll come to you all. See you Thursday.”
