10. Chapter Nine
Chapter Nine
Reeve
I walk back into the empty clubhouse, moving toward the stairs with my phone in hand, searching for Ghost.
When I reach the communal living room, and only see Mouse tucked away in the corner, sitting on the round love seat he's practically claimed as his, I sigh.
"You seen Ghost?" I ask.
Glancing at me with his dark, sorrowful eyes—which don't quite meet mine—he shakes his head, then looks down at the book he's reading.
His silent answer doesn't surprise me because I'm not sure anyone here has ever heard his voice before.
He's a few years younger than me and has been a member of the club since he was twenty, having been a prospect for two years before that.
Callux had been down at the station, bailing out Dodger, then ended up bringing Mouse home with them too.
Apparently, Dodger had managed to find out why Mouse was in lock up, and he convinced Callux to give him a chance.
It's worked out well for us, because although he doesn't speak, he's as loyal as they come, which makes him a great member, and he's helped us out on many occasions.
Leaving him be, I move around the table and push open the door which leads to the upstairs hallway where mine, Milo's, Luxe's and Warren's bedrooms are.
Knocking on Milo's door, I lean against the wall opposite, spinning my phone around as I wait.
I hear shuffling, then a second later, he opens his door, tugging a top over his head.
"What's up?"
I glance at the ceiling, then back to him.
"A light fixture?"
He glares at me, and I laugh.
"Know where Ghost is?"
He frowns and shakes his head.
"Why'd you need Ghost?"
Unlocking my phone, I show him the picture of the girl from the diner.
He takes my phone, eyes scanning the screen, then moving back to mine.
"Who's this?"
I shrug, taking my phone back and tucking it in my pocket.
"Trix's friend, I think. She met up with her at the diner."
His jaw slackens, and he stares at me for a moment before his brows furrow.
"Did you follow her when she left work?"
I scoff and shake my head.
"Of course not. I gave her a lift."
He leans against his door frame, crosses his arms, then smirks at me.
"How did that happen?"
Sighing, I move away from him and toward the stairs.
I hear his door close behind me, then the sound of his footsteps following mine as we make our way to the lower level. There's multiple bedrooms downstairs, some of which are empty because not all of our members live here.
"Okay, if you won't tell me how you managed to get her into your car and take her there, how about you tell me why you took a picture of her friend? You interested?"
Glancing at him over my shoulder, I shake my head.
"Not at all," I retort, stopping outside the second bedroom on the right. "I'm trying to find out who she surrounds herself with so I can know whether we should trust her or not."
I knock on Ghost's bedroom door, then pull down on the handle, pushing it open.
Most would probably consider it rude, but it's common knowledge that Ghost hardly ever sleeps, and majority of the time he's never even here, so I don't see the point in waiting.
As suspected, he's sitting at his desk, eyes glued to the computer screens in front of him, with his back toward us as we enter the dark room.
He swivels around in his chair, his long, black hair shadowing his face.
"What do you need?" he asks, his voice rough and scratchy.
Pulling my phone out again, I hand it to him.
"I want to find out who she is."
He looks down at the picture, nods, then turns around and plugs a cable into my phone.
"You got a name?"
"No, but she's friends with Trix, so that might help," I tell him.
He shrugs, typing away on his keyboard.
"I've already looked into Trix, and this woman didn't come up."
Now that information piques my interest.
I move closer to him, slightly leaning over his shoulder.
"What did you find when you looked into Trix?"
He turns toward me with narrowed eyes.
"The information I gathered on her was for the Prez, not for you."
Milo's hand lands on my arm, and he drags me backwards, eyes glistening with amusement.
"You seem really bothered about all of this," he says, raising a questioning brow. "And I'm going to assume that if you haven't taken an interest in the woman on your phone, then you've probably taken an interest in Trix. Am I right?"
Scoffing, I smack his hand off of me.
"Let me know when you find something," I say to Ghost, whirling around and storming out of the room.
Milo has no idea what he's talking about.
Yes, I'm intrigued by the pretty little redhead who's suddenly working here, but that doesn't mean I have any interest in her.
I just want to make sure she can be trusted before I feel confident enough to let her stay here, surrounding herself with my brothers, and digging her way into this life.
Plus, she's best friends with my little brother. I want to make sure she's not involved in anything that could cause him any harm, because it's my job to make sure he stays safe and out of trouble.
He's already mentioned she's in some sort of trouble, and I'm determined to figure out what it is.
