Chapter 17 #2
I added a few extra sets to my workout routine just to make myself look presentable before heading to the office.
"Matvey, you're late." The moment I walked into my office, Veronica's voice greeted me.
She was lounging in my desk chair, body relaxed and sinking into it. The desk hid most of her, showing only from the shoulders up.
"What are you doing here?" My tone turned cold. I didn't recall any meeting scheduled with her today. "And who said you could sit in my chair?"
"I'm your wife. What's the problem with sitting in your chair?" She smiled and stood up. "You're the same as always—no sense of fun."
I finally got a clear look at what she was wearing—if it could even be called clothing.
She was practically naked, with only thin straps covering her nipples. The thong did nothing to hide her pussy; instead, it was wedged between her folds.
I immediately wanted to throw out the chair she had been sitting in.
She walked toward me in her high heels, trying to press herself against me.
"Don't get it twisted. I'm just your ex-husband." I didn't even glance at her, stepping aside. "We're only business partners now."
Veronica's posture stiffened for a second, but she quickly recovered and draped herself across the sofa.
"Ex-husband? We've done everything together." She lay on her side, one leg propped on the back of the sofa. "Don't you want to fuck me one more time? I'm sure I can satisfy you better than that little assistant."
As she spoke, her hand slid between her legs, and soft moans escaped her lips.
Was this woman crazy? If she was horny, she could go find one of her many lovers who couldn't keep it in their pants. How dare she compare herself to Riley? She was just a woman who cheated because she couldn't handle being alone.
"Veronica, you better have actual business with me." I frowned in warning. "Touching yourself in my office? Do you want me to leak the security footage online?"
"Go ahead if that's your kink." She laughed lightly and pointed at the camera. "It would only show me masturbating in Matvey Bykov's office. And since Matvey is my husband, what's the issue?"
"You don't actually think I'm still interested in you, do you?" I looked at her spread legs and gave a cold laugh.
She said nothing, just smiled seductively and slipped her fingers into her mouth, sucking them clean. I had to admit she had natural allure, but it only made me feel sick. My cock didn't twitch at all.
"I'm pretty confident in my appeal." One hand continued stroking her pussy while the other teased her nipple. She gave me a sultry look. "I miss you so much, Matvey... I'm soaking wet."
"Leave, unless you want security to drag you out looking like that." I wasn't wasting any more words on her.
Instead, she got up and approached me, reaching for my belt.
"You wouldn't do that, Matvey." The scent coming off her made my nose revolt.
I grabbed her wrist, ready to shove her away. But the office door suddenly opened, and Riley stood there holding files.
Damn it. Of all moments.
Riley froze completely. Her mouth parted slightly as her gaze moved from Veronica to me. I immediately released Veronica's hand, but hers stayed clamped on my belt.
"Sorry, I came at a bad time." Riley turned around quickly, her voice sounding completely broken.
If I hadn't heard it myself, I wouldn't have believed it was her.
"Good that you know." Veronica finally let go and walked over to Riley. "Now get out."
"And don't come back to this office. Go back to your old desk. Understand, you little bumpkin?"
Fuck you, Veronica. I never hit women, but right now I was tempted to make an exception.
Riley turned to look at me, her eyes asking for my decision.
Stay here. Don't go anywhere. I almost told her that, but then I saw the vicious look Veronica gave her. If Veronica knew how much I cared about Riley, she wouldn't let it go. And with her family behind her...
Sending Riley back to her old position might be the right call. If I kept her here now, she'd be dragged into the danger with me. Only by staying away from the center of the storm would she be safe.
"Riley, go back," I said it finally.
I watched the light in her eyes die the moment the words left my mouth. She lowered her head and ran out.
Veronica looked smug.
"Matvey, I knew it. That little girl was just a plaything to you." She reached toward my crotch.
I dodged her.
"She is just a plaything," I said. "But you chased away my assistant and caused me a lot of trouble. I need to focus on work now."
"Also, our cooperation isn't going smoothly. I've been building the narrative that we're getting back together, but you haven't fixed my transportation routes. Remember, public opinion can shift." I left it at that.
Veronica knew she was in the wrong and finally dropped her act.
She grabbed a thin trench coat from the rack by the door and threw it on. "I've taken care of things at the police station. I'll push them to move faster."
She had better follow through.
Her footsteps faded down the hall. I stayed standing. That damn sofa needed to go too.
I walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, Riley's heartbroken expression flashing through my mind again. My office no longer had that small, bright presence in it.
But this was better for both of us.
