Chapter Several Months Later Byron #3
I kept a steady pace, hard and fast, and she was making these little gasping sounds as her heels dug into my back.
“Oh,” she cried a couple of times before she let out a silent scream of desire and wrapped her legs even more tightly around me.
She came so hard, her insides squeezed me like a vise.
They loosened and tightened until I burst inside her.
I let out a deep, low moan as I thrust a few more times before almost falling on top of her.
The speed and ferocity with which I’d come had left me feeling almost lightheaded.
I flopped down beside her and put my hands behind my head, still breathing hard.
We listened as Leo and Nia finished up, clearly not caring much if anyone heard them. When they were done, we heard Nia say, “Okay. That was seriously the last time.”
“You keep saying that, baby, but we keep finding ourselves right back together again.”
“I’m serious. You and I are not happening. Now, let’s go back separately so no one suspects.”
He sighed. “If you say so. But we could be good together if you just admitted you want me.”
I could almost hear the eye roll in the huge sigh she let out. “Whatever, Leo. How do I look?”
“Like you could go another round.”
“I’m being serious! Do I look freshly fucked or put together?”
“Both? But you kind of give off that freshly fucked vibe all the time…”
We heard the sound of a light smack and his laughter, and I figured she’d probably hit his chest. “You’re ridiculous,” she said, but she was laughing, too. “I’m going back. Wait ten minutes before you follow me.”
“Gotcha. ‘Bye, beautiful.”
She didn’t answer. About thirty seconds later we heard his footsteps follow her away from the area.
I chuckled. “I knew Leo couldn’t wait ten minutes, but I thought he’d hang back for at least one or two.”
Jess just grinned. “We weren’t the only ones with this idea, huh?”
“Nope. I wonder how many other couples are doing the same thing?”
I helped her get re-dressed, and I put myself back together before I laid back down beside her. We laid like that for a while, waiting for our breathing and heartrates to return to normal.
We grew quiet as we looked at the moonlight rippling over the ocean waves. I closed my eyes and listened to the crash of those waves on the shore and took a deep breath of the salty air.
“It’s a blue moon tonight,” Jess said suddenly. “Did you know that?”
I stared at it. “As a kid I always thought that meant the moon literally turned blue. I know that’s not it, but why do they call it that?”
She rolled on her side and propped up on her elbow.
“It’s just the second full moon in a calendar month.
It doesn’t happen very often, so they say it’s lucky and good things are to come.
I mean, not the scientists. They say there’s nothing special about it; that the calendar just fell that way.
But I like to think they’re wrong. I think it’s amazing that Paolo and Jelly got married under a blue moon. ”
I stared at the moon for a moment. I knew this was it. It was the right time.
I sat up and pulled a small, carefully wrapped box out of one pocket. “I’ve been waiting to give you this.” I didn’t want to tell her that I’d been in the jewelry store buying this set for her when Skeeter kidnapped her. I thought it could taint the present, and I obviously didn’t want that.
“You spoil me,” she whispered as she opened it.
“I like to buy you presents. But Jess,” I lifted her chin to make her look me in the eyes, “you’re the least spoiled person I know.”
She smiled. “Well, I do love the presents. It’s not like I want you to stop or anything.”
I laughed and bent to kiss her forehead. “Open it. I want to see if you like them.” She opened the box and gasped.
“Oh, they’re so pretty,” she said. She immediately reached for her earrings and switched the ones she was wearing for the diamond solitaires I’d bought her.
Then she picked up the necklace. It was a diamond solitaire set in an intricate platinum pendant and hung on a delicate chain.
The diamonds were all a good size. They weren’t too small, but they weren’t so large that she wouldn’t wear them as everyday jewelry.
I knew she wasn’t a very flashy person and thought she’d like this type of jewelry best.
“I love them. Thank you so much!” She wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me.
We kissed for long enough that things started to get heated again. Before they could get too far along, I pulled back.
She looked surprised, probably because I’d never done that before.
I got on one knee and pulled the other box from my pocket. This one was in a very recognizable blue color.
She sucked in a breath.
“Jess, I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” It wasn’t one of the fancy speeches I’d had prepared in my head. But it was natural, and all I could manage because of how nervous I was.
“Yes! Oh my God, yes!” She tackled me to the ground and peppered my face with kisses.
“Wait,” I laughed helplessly, “you didn’t even look at the ring.”
“It could be diamond dust for all I care. I just want to be married to you.”
That was sweet, but I’d bought her a perfect, three carat diamond solitaire. It was simple and elegant, and I thought it should be hers as soon as I saw it. I wanted to know if she liked it as much as I did.
She opened it, and her eyes got big. “It’s so beautiful. I love it.” She put it on immediately and started kissing me again.
I put my arm around her shoulder as we sat underneath a blue moon and enjoyed the perfect night, the sounds of the band drifting in every now and then between the crashes of the waves.
I could not have been happier.
