Chapter 6 #3
“This morning. His father paid his fine, and he’s out.
” Good to know, he thought. Now they’d have to watch out for the two of them.
Not that he thought that either one of them would be that much trouble, but he just didn’t know.
“Peter isn’t looking for a wife, but that doesn’t mean that he’ll not do what his father wants of him if he decides to cut him off.
He’s been paying for his stupidity for a long time, and I don’t know how this is going to work with him. ”
“You think he’ll come around just so he can have the money his father is dangling in front of him.
” It wasn’t a question, but Joey answered it anyway.
He said that money would be a big factor in both their lives.
“All right, then we’ll keep an eye out for him.
But I want you to know that if either of them comes around with evil in their hearts, it’s going to be terrible for the two of them.
I won’t allow them to hurt my family. Any of them. ”
Joey left after that. As soon as he was out the door, he and Trinity sat on the couch and talked about what would happen if they did come around.
It was going to be all right so long as they played nicely.
But he had a feeling that they weren’t going to do anything nice at all and be shitty towards them.
It was nearly six when they decided to have dinner.
The two of them had been flirting all day, and he was hard as stone just thinking about it being his wedding night.
The doorbell rang just as they were sitting down to dinner.
The butler, Burno, went to the door and came to tell them that it was the misters Jacobson.
He said that he’d bring in tea and scones for the visit, and Trinity said no.
They weren’t guests, and she didn’t want them there.
As they got to the room where they were being seated, he overheard the argument between the two men that sent shivers up his spine.
Yes, they were going to need watching from now on, he realized.
“Hello.” Trinity sat down on the opposite couch from the two men, and when Pete stood up, she did as well. “There will be no violence in our home, or I’ll call the police right now.”
“You lied to me.” She asked what he was talking about. Pete sputtered around and said that she was to marry his son. “You said that you’d marry him to calm him down so that he’d be a good man.”
“I did no such thing. And if you remember correctly, I told you that I wouldn’t marry him if he was the last man on earth.
Besides, I’m already married to the man that I love, and I don’t want anything to do with either one of you.
” Again, Pete acted like she had no right to talk to him that way, especially when she wasn’t doing as he told.
“You’re a guest in our home right now, but I won’t hesitate to call the police if I have to and have you both removed.
” Peter came to stand next to Trinity, and she backed away from him.
“You look good. I thought that you’d be all frumpy and fat after popping out a brat.
By the way, you’re going to have to get rid of that thing.
I won’t have a kid hanging on me when I want to party.
” Peter looked around the room. “I think this is better than my dad’s.
I’m going to enjoy having parties and shit here. You might just do after all.”
“I’m married. To him.” She pointed at him, and he crossed his arms over his chest and tried to look intimidating to the younger man.
He couldn’t have been any more than nineteen years old but was acting like he was older.
Audon called his bluff when he put up his fists like he was going to hit him. “He’ll knock you out.”
“No, he won’t. I’m street smart.” Trinity said she was talking to him about Audon. “He’s all bad-assed, I guess. Taking something for them muscles. I bet he’s not worked out a day in his life.”
The punch to his face when he got close enough was exciting. As soon as he fell back on his ass, he put out his hand to help him up. But, and probably the smartest thing he’d ever done, he decided to get up on his own. As soon as he was up, he took a swing at Audon and missed. Audon hit him again.
“You’re not playing fair.” He asked him what he was talking about. “You’re supposed to let me hit you after you hit me. That’s the way things work. Now I have two hits that I’m going to hit you with, and you’re going to go down.”
“That’s not the way it works in the real world.
You swing at me, and I’m going to swing back.
Those are the rules of engagement.” Peter danced around the room with his fists up, and Audon thought it was funny.
Just as he was going to swing at him again, he ducked and came up from under him and punched him in the gut.
That had him lying on the floor again. This time he wasn’t too quick to get up.
“You’re not going to hit me in the face while I’m able to defend myself. ”
“Maybe I’ll hit Trin.” He got up from the floor and took a swing at Trinity.
Before he could react to his hitting at Trinity, she hit Peter in the face, and he went flying.
He broke the coffee table, and the things atop it spread out all over the room.
“Damn it, you both aren’t worth my time. I’m not playing with you anymore.”
When he stood up, Audon stepped in front of Trinity.
She backed up a step, and he watched Peter.
As soon as he came at him, growling at the same time, he hit him as hard as he could, knocking him back on the floor toward the already broken furniture.
This time he laid there with his eyes closed.
He didn’t know if he was unconscious or not, but he wasn’t moving.
The entire time this was going on, Pete stood there not saying a word.
Now that his son was down, he started yelling about unfair treatment of his boy and that they were going to pay.
“All I have to do is show the police the cameras, and they’ll know just what went on.” Pete asked why she had cameras in her house. “Because sometimes I have to deal with stupid people like you two and I want the police to know that I’ve protected myself as best I could.”
“That’s the stupidest reason that I’ve ever heard. No one has cameras throughout their home. That’s an invasion of privacy.” Trinity said that it was her privacy that she was trying to protect. “Well, that’s not right.”
The police were called, and Joey showed up at the house again.
This time he was very professional and arrested Peter for breaking the furniture.
Pete said he’d be back with an attorney and that they’d better not consecrate their marriage.
Since neither one of them knew what he was talking about, the older man left when his son was arrested.
“That was weird.” Audon agreed with Trinity and pulled her into his arms to hold her. “I guess this isn’t the kind of wedding day that we planned on, but I’m okay with it. I think we got the upper hand on the two of them and they might not mess with us anymore.”
“I don’t know. Peter is stupid and stupid people tend to do stupid things.
” She looked up at him. “Perhaps between now and when we leave, we don’t go out unless we have to.
I have some things I can do here about my work, and you said you can work from home.
We might not like it, but I have a feeling that neither one of them is finished with what happened here today. ”
“All right. I’ll make arrangements with the staff to be on the lookout for them as well.” He said that that might be best. “Do you think that they’ll try harder to get me to marry Peter? I mean, you’d think they would give up because I’m already married.”
“As I said, stupid people do stupid things. And I have a feeling that neither one of them is very bright.” They made their way back to their dinner and ate in silence.
He had a feeling that Trinity was thinking about what had happened here tonight, and he was thinking of ways to keep Peter in jail.
Maybe his father would give up if he was still in jail.
But then, maybe not. He was going to keep an eye on them both until they were arrested.
He was going to let his family know as well, just in case they tried anything with them.
