She awoke with stardust flickering from her sleepy eyes.
In the vulnerable moment between sleep and wakefulness, she gazes up at me through thick lashes.
“Do you still love me today?” she mumbles.
With a soft kiss on her cheek, I reply, “I still love you today. Tomorrow. And every day after that.”
She hums sleepily in response before her breath shallows once more.
I press another kiss to her temple.
“I will forever love you, like the night loves the stars. Impossibly, yet full of hope. All the way through the darkness, until we shine with a light all our own.”
I drink in the way sleep softens her face in the most beautiful way.
Intoxicating me with a deep starvation to know every soft piece of her she has hidden away, to guard it with all of me.
To be the place where she can strip away her armor, her walls, her strength, and melt into me.
One day. One day, I will be that for her, but for now, I am thankful for every piece she is willing to give to me.
I pull her tighter into my arms as she naturally nuzzles into me. My other half. Two perfectly fitting pieces of a celestial puzzle.
