Epilogue
Dax
Nolan left us in quite a pickle with all the blood, a knocked-out shop keeper, and new werewolf to hide from the public at large.
Fortunately, Myra changed back before the shopkeeper woke up.
Unfortunately, she woke up before I could get Myra some clothes, there was a bit of awkwardness there.
We explained that the man who knocked her unconscious was to blame for Myra’s nakedness, and she seemed to believe us.
Whether she actually believed us or not is another story entirely.
One thing was for certain she was in a hurry to see us both out of her shop.
While she rushed around to find clothes that would fit Myra, I quickly cleaned up the blood that was on the floor by the door.
Then she charged us much less for the bed frame we were purchasing before practically shoving us out the door and deadbolting it behind us.
It’s been six months since Myra became a wolf. Six long months of helping her gain control of the beast inside her. Six months of feeling guilty every time I watch her shift. Six months of begging for her forgiveness every single day. And six months of getting the same answer every single day.
“For the eleventh million-time Dax there is nothing for you to apologize for. You didn’t hold a gun to Nolan the asshole's head and force him to make me into this thing. The wolf still wishes you had let her kill him. I’m still glad you didn’t let me though.
” Myra reminds me. It’s been the same routine for the last six months.
I was afraid she would blame me for everything, that she would hate me.
I should have known she wouldn’t. While she was disappointed, she didn’t get to be a cool tiger, she embraced her new animal self with gusto.
She was very adamant and laser focused with her desire to control her beast so she could get back to helping Alia with her charity work.
When I say her animal was a beast, I mean she gave me and Chase a run for our money when it came to who was more dominant.
I should have known she had a big bad beasty locked away inside her under all the sweetness.
We moved in together within a week of her being changed.
Not just because I needed to be close to her, but because I knew she would need help understanding her new self.
My tiger was happy as a pig in shit as soon as he got out of Chase’s territory.
Myra had been right; my tiger needed its own territory now that it had matured.
He didn’t mind sharing territory with Myra because she wasn’t a tiger, and she was his mate.
We have been looking for property next to or near Chase.
Myra wants to build a cottage similar to the one we’re currently living in but on a bigger scale, just in case.
That way we can be close enough for help with protection without being so close our tigers fight each other.
Chase wasn’t exactly happy when I moved out.
To be fair it had been only the three of us Chase, Evren, and myself since our parents died.
He felt like he was losing me like he’d lost them.
Once I reassured him of our plans, he relaxed a little.
Tonight, we are celebrating Myra being able to control her shifts back and forth for the last week.
It means she can go back to work starting on Monday morning.
She’s got a little pep to her step as she bounces around the house getting dressed for a night out.
Leaning against the door to the bedroom I watch her bite her nail as she looks over her choices for clothes.
She has on a pair of devil red cheeky panties and matching bra.
I may have spoiled her a little by purchasing some pretties just so I could see her in them.
Walking up behind her I wrap my arms around her waist, squeezing her gently against me.
“What does one wear to a ‘congratulations on controlling your shifts’ party?” She asks with a laugh.
“We could just stay home and snugglefuck on the couch.” I offer generously and it elicits another laugh from her. She doesn’t know it, but for once I’m not serious with my offer. I have a surprise waiting for her at our destination tonight and need her to go, but I can’t give anything away.
“Snugglefuck? Really?” She turns in my embrace, wrapping her arms around my neck before lifting up to kiss me with a devilish smile upon her lips.
“Yes, really. We could tell everyone to fuck off, curl up on our couch, watch a stupid movie, snuggle, and then fuck.” I tease, knowing what she will say before she even says it.
“No, Alia and Chase planned this party just for me, I can’t just not go.
I’ll go with the summer dress and my canvas shoes then.
Comfy but cute.” She says pulling away to pick up a cute flowy summer dress with tiny daisies all over it.
I smile knowing my offer made her relax enough to pick something out.
“You look beautiful, baby.” I say as I pull her in for a deep kiss. Over the last six months this woman has shown me how strong and resilient she is and I couldn’t be a prouder mate if I tried.
The drive to our destination brings with it a feeling of nervousness I’ve never felt before.
I’ve been on the run with my family from aggressive shifters, I’ve been in battle against a wolf pack, I’ve been high up in the treetops cutting down trees, but what I’m about to do is far scarier than any of those things combined.
What if she says no? What if she doesn’t truly forgive me like she claims? What if I’m not enough for her?
Of course we’re enough for her, we’re fucking awesome. She loves us and we love her. Yeah, because you aren’t just as nervous as I am. When all he does is huff in response I know I’ve hit the nail on the head.
“Dax, is something wrong? You’re being quiet, you’re never quiet.” Myra asks as she reaches for my hand that is fidgeting against my leg, placing it in her lap. Her simple touch is enough to relax me and my beast.
“No, my love, nothing is wrong. I was just thinking about turning around and snugglefucking like I suggested.” I grin mischievously over at her just as I make the turn to Chase’s place and she giggles in response. She goes quiet when she sees the decorations and cars lined around Chase’s house.
“What is all this?” She asks in awe looking around to see all of our friends and family standing around in front of Chase’s house grinning at us.
“This is for you, my love. Everyone wanted to celebrate your accomplishments with you. Alia started making a list of who to invite, word spread and suddenly everyone wanted to join in. They’re all here for you.
” There are unshed tears in her eyes as I squeeze her hand in mine.
She gives me a shaky smile before getting out of the truck.
As soon as she’s out the door a cheer goes up from the gathered crowd.
I watch as Alia, Chase, and Evren step forward to hug her tightly.
Each whisper words of encouragement to her as they hand her off.
Soon there is a line of people to hug her, welcoming her into the shifter world.
When Sebastian Riggs, Nolan’s brother and current alpha of the local wolf pack steps forward there’s a part of me that wants to yank Myra behind me away from him.
I was afraid he would try and take her away from me as soon as he found out what his brother had done.
She was a wolf after all and wolves needed a pack to stay steady.
Instead, he simply offered to answer any questions Myra may have and if she ever felt the need for a pack his was open to her.
I watch as he and Myra talk for a moment before Sebastian's eyes land on my sister Evren. The pain and want I see written across his face makes my own heart hurt for his predicament. Not enough to help him, because Evren is my sister and as far as I’m concerned, no man is ever going to be good enough for her.
Mate or not. Myra says her goodbyes and walks over to me with a bright smile on her face.
“Did you and Alia plan all of this?” She asks, her voice filled with happiness.
“I wish I could take credit for all of this, but this is all Alia. All I did was ask her to put something together for you. I wanted you to feel loved and welcomed into our world properly. If we had done a proper mating we would have had a celebration like this before I bit you.” I say apologetically.
There’s so much we would have done differently had Nolan not done what he did.
“This is amazing. Thank you.” She says, jumping into my arms, kissing me soundly.
It’s now or never. Setting her down I drop to one knee and pull out the ring I’ve had burning a hole in my pocket for the last three weeks.
Her mouth goes slack, and her hand comes up in an act of shock.
Cheers erupt behind her again as everyone sees what I’ve done.
“It is I who should be thanking you for coming into my life. Myra, you came into my life and turned it completely on its axel. You’ve brought me a happiness that I never thought I would have.
Let alone what I thought I deserved. I live for you, and I would die for you.
My world begins and ends with you. In front of our family and friends I ask you to let me love you from now and until my last breath leaves my body.
Will you be my wife?” I ask as tears shimmer in Myra’s eyes as she looks down at me.
Sniffles can be heard from the crowd followed by more cheers as she nods her assent.
“Yes. A thousand times yes!” I hear her yell above the roar of the crowd. As I stand to embrace her, we are suddenly encompassed by hugs and congratulations. Fate knew what they were doing when they put this woman in my path, and I will do everything in my power to keep her with.
The End
