Hassan #2
“Told you his ass was a killer.” I wasn’t sure which Montrose had said that shit but I wasn’t worried about it now. I knew without being able to see him since he was on my weak side that Smoke was on alert but I tilted my head in a way that let him know I was good.
“You got to be one dumb muthafucka to fumble Sylvia in the first place. But to sit here and talk shit about her in front of her people like I won’t help them hogtie your ass and leave you in a ditch is something so far past stupid I don’t think a name has been created for it yet.
” I stood up to my full height keeping the gun that was aimed at his stomach there but tucking the one under his chin back in my waist.
“Yep. Now this one I won’t say shit when he asks to marry her.” That voice definitely belonged to Mr. Tut.
“You doing too much pulling a gun and shit on me in my town.”
He was faking bravado I know he didn’t have because of the stupid shit he let come out of his mouth. “Your town? Look around, nigga. Everybody here avoiding you and your new bitch like the plague cause nobody likes y’all. Stop acting like my last name ain’t the one on the town’s welcome sign.”
“Y’all Beacons always did think y’all ran shit.” His eyes were filled with disdain and I had to wonder what I’d ever done to this nigga for him to be taking me dating Sylvia so fucking personal.
“’Cause nigga we do. Prove me wrong.” I tucked my second gun and waited on him to make a move.
He was walking around with his shirt off and shit just begging for fucking attention.
No one was giving it besides his family and I wondered if they’d pumped his head up to do this stupid shit.
No one was standing behind him and for once everyone was minding their business.
Or they were doing a damn good job of pretending to.
I was thankful for the tent because it was keeping the sun off me and allowing us a modicum of privacy.
“Yeah well we’ll see about you being around my fucking kids.
I know that I’ve got rights and if you got guns and shit then there ain’t no reason for you to think you can be around them and you got a problem with me.
” He was talking big shit like my girl’s lawyers weren’t right behind me listening to the petty shit he was gonna try to do.
“Make more problems for my baby if you want to. I’ve been easy on your ass only because I was finally happy that you were out of her life.
I helped you find a job not out of loyalty to you but because I knew you had kids to provide for and I didn’t want your ass trying to go after Sy for alimony like a bitch.
” Mr. Tut was now on his feet standing behind me.
When he put his hand on my shoulder I knew he was telling me to calm down and not act up.
He should’ve known I was happy to go to jail behind mine.
I laughed in his fucking face because for a grown man to be this lame was hilarious. “Damn, you were living off my lady? Can’t have that. Don’t worry, pops, she’ll be more than well taken care of. Matter fact we might be breaking ground on the family land.”
“You footing the bill?”
I glanced back at him and nodded because I wasn’t worried about Dave’s lame ass. “Whatever she wants she gets. And I ain’t a weak nigga to try to claim y’all’s family property either. Not like I ever plan to lose her like a dummy.” I turned back to Dave and smirked which only made him angrier.
“I’m glad you know my shotgun still loaded and ready to go. You heard her man, fuck nigga. Get from over here before we got more of a problem than we’ve been had.”
Mr. Earl had gotten his ass up and despite being older I knew he would put Dave on his ass if he needed to.
Dave knew better than to try that shit with all of us and he flounced off like a bitch going to pout.
“You alright with me. Make sure that you put a ring on her finger and then give her a few kids cause I ain’t trying to only have grandkids that share DNA with that nigga.
I’m thankful that our genes are stronger than his.
It was touch and go there for a second but God was merciful.
” Mr. Tut had me cracking up as we sat back down and got back to what we were doing.
I wasn’t dumb and I watched as David went back to the tent his family was under.
His girl was sitting there with a sour ass look on her face probably because nobody was paying attention to her.
Their little girl was being held by his mama so the only usefulness I’m sure they felt his girl served was gone since they had the baby.
I took the shot of moonshine to the head surprising them both but I had to comment about his remark about Sisi’s baby. “That’s fucked up talking about your grands like that.”
Mr. Earl was laughing at his son but Mr. Tut was dead ass and remorseless about his words. “Nah, that’s life. I was gone have to keep a tighter grip on both of them but especially the oldest one. But you around so I get to relax a lil bit. You are around, right?”
I nodded slowly because I knew what he was asking me. If he knew how serious I was then he wouldn’t need to ask that question. But that was on me for not making myself clear. “As long as she lets me be.”
“The way Sylvie over there making sure we doin’t say or do anything wrong to you, you ain’t going no where no time soon, my boy.
” I looked over at Sylvia who was shooting furtive glances my way.
My granny was holding one of her hands and mumbling something and I knew in my soul that she was praying over the baby she felt was already in Sylvie’s womb.
“Her brothers are going to be on your ass so just make sure you know that they’ll relax once they get to know you.”
I laughed again and held up my glass for another shot of moonshine.
“Mr. Tut, I will box all four of your sons and embarrass your family name if they think they’ll get in between me and Sisi.
If I’m messing up, y’all got every right to shoot my ass.
But interfering in the relationship that we’re forming isn’t something that I’m cool with.
” I had no issues with them protecting her but they needed to understand I would never be Sylvia’s enemy.
I understood that Dave had everyone on edge but they needed to judge me for me. The same way I’d told Sisi.
“Dang, Tut that nigga told you.”
“Mr. Earl you can’t be a messy old man your whole life.” I took the second shot straight back because I knew I was about to grub something serious. Between their family’s tent and mine I wouldn’t need for ‘bout a week after this.
“I’m not messy, I’m invested. I told her not to marry that boy but she was pregnant and thought that would have him acting right. It clearly didn’t but I don’t regret either of them. They’re good kids despite their daddy being worthless.”
I glanced over at where a bunch of the kids were playing and made sure I put my eyes on Selene and Dorian. It was a fucking shame their daddy hadn’t even made his way over to speak to them since he hadn’t seen them in weeks.
I’mma have to beat his ass today if he kept on.
“Yep. Gone ‘head and ask her. You watching them babies like they came out your nut sack. I’ll keep her brothers off your back but it don’t even seem like you’ll need. They over there not saying a word so I guess somebody put a good word in for you.”
I’d already had a talk with Marion during one of the many days that Sisi had been curving me so he knew I wasn’t playing about her. I was sure he’d given his approval but that didn’t mean her other brothers weren’t going to have an opinion.
“Like I said I’m ready for whatever. But is this your way of giving me your blessing?” I only had one good eye but I made sure he could see them both so he saw I meant every word I said.
With every second he waited I only got more determined to show him how much I cared about his daughter. His face eased into a smile and he nodded his head slowly.
“You got that.”
“Daddy!”
“Please, did you see how Dave brought his ass over here? Let that man beat that nigga’s ass. Dave gone keep making trouble. Hassan is the only one in the family who hasn’t whooped him yet. Fuck Dave’s ass.” Mr. Earl sat back with his moonshine like he was at ease.
Mr. Tut just shook his head but I knew he wasn’t going to contradict his daddy. Especially not when he agreed with him.
“If you need to beat his ass, just make sure you let him swing first. It’s an easy self-defense claim.”
I laughed and put my eyes back on my family to ensure they were good before I spoke up again.
“The last thing I’m worried about is needing a claim to get off on charges.
I’m more the type to make problems disappear before they can disturb my peace.
Dave with will be a name carved into the memorial walk the second he tries to come for me. ”
