Chapter 27

Sloan rushed into his office, his eyes scanning the room only to see a woman sitting in front of Becky’s desk. She stood when he entered. He gave her a nod, figuring it was Dr. Holloway, but he didn’t have time for pleasantries right now.

“If you’re looking for Becky, Mr. Murphy, she isn’t in there,” Dr. Holloway informed him just as he reached for the knob.

His eyes narrowed as he turned. “Where is she?”

“Her son, Frankie, called.” She sat back down, but her smile faded when she saw his expression. “She was really excited. Said he made a surprise visit. She left to meet him at your house.”

Alarms started going off in Sloan’s head as he pulled out his phone. He called Becky, but she didn’t pick up. He then called Frankie’s number and got the same damn result.

“Fuck!” Sloan roared as he ran out of the office and up the steps. Blasting through the control room door, he went straight to the monitors. “Son of a bitch!”

King walked in, looking at the door. “What the hell happened to the door?” He glanced at Sloan and instantly knew something was wrong. “What’s wrong?”

“Becky’s gone.” Sloan growled, then looked to where they kept the keys. One set was missing. He pointed. “I need a trace on that SUV now!”

King didn’t ask another question. Rushing to the computer, he started working. A map came up, zeroing in on a pinged spot.

“There.” King pointed as Sloan looked down at it.

“Get everyone together and meet me there,” Sloan ordered, his eyes black and fangs down. Whoever had Becky had just started a war, and Sloan was going to end it bloody.

Sloan ran out of the control room almost running down Steve and Adam. “Whoa!” Steve called out as he was slammed against the wall. He looked into the office to see King texting. “What’s going on?”

“Follow him!” King demanded just as their phones went off with Kings message to every Warrior.

Sloan heard them but didn’t slow down. He ran outside to his bike, jumped on, and took off.

He swore to a God he hadn’t talked to in a long damn time that if anything happened to Becky, he would end every motherfucker responsible.

He broke every speed limit, ran every red light and stop sign, but made damn sure he didn’t cause anyone else to wreck.

At this point, he had one mission, and that was to get to her.

At first, when Dr. Holloway had said she wasn’t in the private suite, he’d had a sinking feeling she may have heard his earlier conversation with Jared and Sid, but that didn’t seem to be the case.

He wasn’t going to hide what was said. He was going to tell her everything, and now that may not happen.

Sloan cursed as he pushed his bike harder than he ever had in his life. He heard the motorcycles catching up to him, but he didn’t even look their way. Sloan also heard sirens, but then they stopped, and he knew his men had informed the cops they were on VC business.

Turning off the Double A, his back tire slid, but he kept control of the bike. Climbing the hill, he almost passed the field where the SUV Becky had taken was parked. The hood was up, which had him instantly alert. Pulling up, he quickly got off the bike, then rounded the SUV.

“Frankie?” Sloan frowned, then looked around. “Where is Becky?”

“They took her,” Frankie said frantically as he ran to the driver’s side, getting under the dashboard. “Why in the fuck won’t this piece of shit start?”

“Frankie!” Sloan reached down and pulled him out from under the dashboard. That was when he got a good look at his battered face. Fuck! “Who took her?”

“Six guys. The main one was a half-breed, but there are more. A lot more where they’re taking my mom.

They blindfolded me, but I know we traveled about fifteen minutes before meeting Mom here.

” Frankie jerked his arm away just as other bikes pulled into the field.

“I told her not to come. Fuck! I tried to stop them, but they forced her into a van and took off. I tried to catch up to them, but I couldn’t. ”

Sloan had never felt the rage that roared through him, and it surprised him. He’d been mad as fuck in the past, but this was different. His body radiated fury, and he knew the others felt it because no one approached him. They just stood, waiting for orders.

“I know.” Sloan forced the words out as he looked at Frankie. “I will find her.”

“He was saying weird shit to her, man.” Frankie looked panicked but was actually holding together pretty well considering.

“It was like he was infatuated with her. Who the fuck are these people? Two assholes grabbed me when I was coming out of one of my classes and wouldn’t tell me a fucking thing.

They took my phone which is how they contacted mom. ”

Looking toward the SUV, Sloan frowned, then looked at Adam, who stood waiting. “You got a read on her?”

“Working on it,” Adam said, then looked at Frankie. “Which way did they go?”

Frankie pointed in the direction, and Sloan looked over his shoulder. He walked to the SUV and looked inside. “Her phone?”

“It’s not in there.” Frankie shook his head. “I tore it apart already looking for the damn keys.”

Sloan nodded, then pulled out his phone. He found the tracking app Lacey and Jinx had set up for them and stared at Becky’s phone's location. It wasn’t moving, which meant it had been tossed. He looked in that direction.

Outwardly, he knew he looked calm, but inwardly, a murderous rage was building. He used his hundreds of years of training to control it so he could think clearly. The first thing he needed to do was find her. Then he would let his rage loose, and God help anyone in his way.

Motorcycles sounded as they filled the field. Charger got off and went directly to Sloan. “I called in Zander and his group. Figured there would be demons involved considering what’s happened with Becky.”

“Demons? What do you mean?” Frankie frowned, looking between Sloan and Charger. “What happened to my mom?”

“Fuck,” Charger hissed, rubbing the back of his neck.

“I will explain everything later, Frankie.” Sloan’s voice was hard, but he kept it as calm as he could. “Right now, we need to focus on finding her.”

“Sloan.” Zander nodded as he stepped forward. “We’re here to help in any way we can. My men have been told to follow your orders and the orders of your Warriors.”

Zander had always had an issue with Sloan. Sloan never really knew why and, well, he just hadn’t given a shit. Not then and definitely not now. Sloan reached out his hand. “I appreciate it,” Sloan replied, then shook Zander’s hand.

Another SUV pulled up with King, Rafe, and Rafe’s men jumping out. “What in the fuck happened?” Rafe made his way to him.

Sloan had to admit that having Rafe there was a big help. That man knew exactly how to calm Sloan’s ass down. He’d already done it in the viewing room not even an hour ago, and Sloan was very close to losing his shit right now.

“They used Becky’s son to get her alone.” Sloan glanced at Frankie. “A half-breed has her.” He sent Rafe a silent message that Frankie didn’t know anything about what happened to Becky and not to say anything they had learned in the interrogation room from Phillips.

Understanding crossed Rafe’s face, then he looked back at the vehicle where one of his men stood as if guarding the SUV. “I brought him, the doctor.” Rafe looked back at Sloan. “He might be useful.”

“Tell your man to find out if he knows where they could have taken Becky.” Sloan’s lip curled in a sneer. “Tell him to beat it out of him if he has to, but don’t kill him. That’s my fucking job.”

Frankie looked at the SUV, then back at Sloan. “What is going on, Sloan?”

When Sloan turned away, not answering, Frankie grabbed his arm. “Dammit, what is happening with my mom? Who the fuck are these people? And why is he talking about demons?”

Sloan turned, not having time for this shit, but knowing Frankie deserved an explanation.

Just not now. Not when every second mattered.

“Listen to me.” Sloan tried to keep the growl out of his voice, but it was damn near impossible.

“Your mom is in danger, and right now, I don’t have time to explain anything.

I’m going to get her back, Frankie. Do you trust me? ”

The field became silent as everyone waited to hear what Frankie would say. Looking around at all the Warriors and Dark Guardians, his gaze finally went back to Sloan. “Yes, I trust you,” Frankie said, then squared his shoulders. “But I’m going with you.”

“That’s not going to happen.” Sloan shook his head. “Becky would have both of our asses if something happened to you, and my focus has to be on your mother. Do you understand that?”

Frankie looked like he was getting ready to argue, but Rafe stepped in.

“Listen, kid, Sloan is the biggest badass I know. If anyone can get your mom back, it’s him.

But if he has to watch out for you, that lessens her chances.

” Rafe nodded toward the SUV. “Help Marcus out. He’ll probably even let you take some of your anger out on the asshole we have in the back. ”

“Yeah.” Frankie finally nodded, then started toward the SUV, but Sloan stopped him.

“You did good, Frankie,” Sloan said, then clapped him on the back. Watching Frankie walk away, Sloan’s calm exterior shattered.

"Steve, stay with him," Sloan ordered, his eyes still on Frankie. "Don't let him follow."

"Yes, sir," Steve said, then turned, catching up to Frankie. "Come on, man, let's go take a few swings on this asshole. We got Sloan's permission."

Hearing running, he turned to see Adam coming from the direction Frankie said they had taken Becky. “I got it!” Adam called, stopping in front of Sloan. “And I found her phone.”

“It’s go time,” Rafe said, then glanced at Sloan. “I got your back, my friend.”

Sloan listened while Adam gave a detailed description of where they had taken Becky.

He didn’t have to say anything to his men or the Dark Guardians.

They knew their jobs and what to do, they had done it thousands of times before.

But this time was different for Sloan. Becky was between them and the evil that had her.

Once Adam was done, Sloan took a step forward. “You know what needs to be done so there is no need for me to tell you.” Sloan said loud enough for everyone to hear. “Kill anything that moves, but I want the half-breed that has taken my mate. Is that understood?”

Every single one of them thumped their chest in acknowledgement.

“I’ve got one question?” Zander said, looking around. “Where’s the Demon Slayer?”

“Right here,” Daniel stepped out of the shadows. He gave a nod to Sloan. “Sorry I’m late.”

“Well fuck, man.” Sid tossed his hands up. “Let’s just let Daniel go in first and take care of the demons with the sweep of his hand.”

“What fun would that be?” Daniel said, looking at Sid. “And it doesn’t quite work as well in this realm as it does in the demon realm.”

“Well shit,” Sid cursed, then shrugged. “Still glad you’re here anyway. Makes me feel a lot better.”

A few murmurs of agreement filled the field.

“There’s about fifty demons throughout the wooded area.” Daniel informed them. “I suggest the Dark Guardians hit that area and the rest focus on the building.”

“How do you know that?” Zander frowned looking from Sloan to Daniel.

“I know where every single demon is in this realm.” Daniel answered, then gave Zander a look when he started to open his mouth. “Don’t ask. I just know.”

As one they all took off running leaving their bikes behind. This had to be a sneak attack. Duncan ran up beside Sloan with Rafe on the other. The Guardians took the lead following Adam. Zander slowed, looking back at Sloan.

“You got one hell of a team, Sloan.” Zander said, then took off catching up to the other Dark Guardians.

Sloan’s eyes stayed locked ahead. Yeah, he did have one hell of a team.

Men and women who would walk into death without question because that was what they did.

But none of that mattered if he didn’t get to Becky in time.

The half-breed had made the mistake of thinking Becky was his to take.

He was about to learn it only marked him for death by his hand.
