Chapter 20 #3
She’d said those words to him before, but it didn’t matter. Every time he heard them, they warmed every corner of his soul, convincing him even more that he was put on this earth for one reason. To love this woman.
He started to ask if she was certain, but he didn’t. Because he knew Wren, knew she wouldn’t ask for something she didn’t think she could handle. Plus, all she had to do was say stop and he would. They both knew that as well.
Grayson shifted until his knees rested on the rug between her knees, then he slowly lowered himself, caging her beneath him. He wasn’t putting any weight on her yet, simply holding himself over her on his hands and knees.
Regardless of what she said, he wanted to take this in increments, wanted to give her time to adapt and adjust.
When she reached up, grabbed his shoulders, and tugged him down, he knew she was more than ready.
Resting most of his weight on his elbows, he kissed her, loving the way her hands toyed with the hair on the base of his neck. He was overdue for a haircut, but he’d put off getting one because he liked giving her something to run her fingers through.
He broke off the kiss when Wren’s hand reached between them to grasp his cock. She lifted her legs, wrapping them around his waist as she guided him to her.
“So impatient,” he murmured against her lips, even though he didn’t have a bit of problem with that.
“Not my fault,” she muttered back. “You looked so fucking hot in that tuxedo all day. You’re lucky I lasted this long.”
He chuckled. “You should have said something, little bird. I’m sure I could have found us somewhere private for a quickie.”
She groaned at the thought of that. “Next time, I’m telling you.”
He started to laugh, but it morphed to a groan as the head of his dick slipped inside.
The two of them had developed a rhythm in their usual positions.
When Wren was on top, she became queen of the cowgirls, bouncing on his cock with an enthusiasm that made it damn hard for him to keep from coming too quick.
And when he bent her over to take her doggie style, it was even faster and harder, the two of them racing to their climaxes at breakneck speed.
This time, however, felt too important, too special to rush.
As Grayson slipped in to the hilt, he kissed her. No, he worshipped her…with his lips. He placed soft, warm kisses on her cheeks, the side of her throat, under her ears, on her forehead. There wasn’t one inch of her gorgeous face left unkissed.
Wren’s worshipping was done with her hands as she stroked his chest, shoulders, and back. She ran her fingers through his hair and rubbed them over his beard.
Throughout it all, he pulsed inside her, slow and steady and deep.
He lost count of how many times he told her that he loved her as they moved together. Just as he lost track of how many times she said it back.
When the pressure became too great to resist, he reached between them and rubbed her clit. That touch was the equivalent to hitting a detonator, and his beautiful woman—fiancée—exploded around him, her orgasm triggering his own.
He continued to hold himself above her until they recovered.
Wren smiled, cupping his cheek. “You’re on top of me.”
The wonder and delight in her voice left his eyes misty.
She was right. There wasn’t a goddamn normal thing about this love between them. It superseded that. She’d called it extraordinary, but even that didn’t feel strong enough to him.
He tried to land on a word to describe it, then decided that some things simply defied explanation.
Grayson slowly withdrew, twisting to drop down to his side next to her, lifting her hand, and placing a kiss on the palm.
“I can’t believe you proposed,” she said, more to herself than him as they lay together, both of them admiring the ring on her finger.
“I can’t believe you said yes.”
The “seriously?” look she shot his direction was the perfect mirror of his from earlier. He chuckled, then went for broke.
“Stop getting the shot,” he said, more gruffly than he’d intended.
Wren laughed. “Well, now you’re just getting greedy.”
“Do it anyway.”
“Grayson—” she started, but he cut her off with a quick, hard kiss.
“Think about it?”
She sighed happily. “Pretty sure I won’t be able to think about anything else. The idea of a baby…”
God. She wanted it as much as he did. He could tell.
“There’s plenty of room at the Nook for us and the first couple of kids, and if you want more than two, I’ll build us extra rooms. Might go ahead and do that anyway so we can add a library to the place.”
Wren’s eyes widened. “We’re moving in here? But…I thought this was a rental?”
“Theo, Mav, and Mila each picked their own cabins when they settled down. I’d like to continue to live on the farm, but if you prefer town, we could—”
“I don’t,” she interjected. “I love it here.”
Grayson sat up, and Wren followed suit. “We can look at all of the available cabins,” he added. “It doesn’t have to be this one if you—”
“This one,” she interrupted again. “I want to live in the Nook with you. It’s so peaceful and beautiful this high up on the mountain.”
“Just wait until spring. It gets so green up here, it almost hurts your eyes to look at. We’ll talk to Edith tomorrow about breaking your lease.”
“Tomorrow?” she asked, aghast, even though her smile told him she was all in.
“Think about it, little bird. We could be settled into our home before Christmas. I’m going to cut down the biggest pine tree I can find, and we’ll tuck it right there in that corner.
” He pointed to the perfect spot for a Christmas tree.
“We can string it with white lights, popcorn, and cranberries, and sit right here on this rug, watching it twinkle while the snow falls outside.”
“You draw the prettiest pictures,” she said. “You should be the writer.”
He gave her a kiss on the cheek. “Say yes to all of it, Wren. Please.”
“Yes,” she whispered. “To all of it.”
Grayson rose then, offering a hand to help her stand. They walked to the bedroom, not bothering to pick up their clothing.
Dropping down onto the bed, Grayson turned on the nightlight before pulling her into his arms.
Sleep came quickly for Wren, but Grayson wasn’t in a hurry to lose this moment, this feeling.
Prior to Wren, his preferred time was in the wee hours of morning, just before a storm. However, now, he decided this was his new favorite moment of the day. In the stillness of the night, with the love of his life tucked securely in his arms.
