Chapter 7

***Casey***

God, it’s hot! I pick a spot in the backyard and

spread my blanket on the grass. Dropping my pillow at one end, I remove my robe

then squat down, a glass of ice in my hand. There’s not even a gentle breeze to

help alleviate the situation. Sweat trickles down the back of my tank top. I

would kill for a vanilla chip ice from Ralph’s right now. I hope Daddy’s okay.

I opened his windows and drew back his blanket, but like I said, no breeze. I’m

definitely installing an A/C unit. Placing the glass on my forehead, I lie

back.

As I stare up at the full moon, I think about my life and

where I thought I would be by now. Certainly not here, but we have to play the

cards we’re dealt, right? However, I seem to have found an ace in this whole

situation—the sheriff. He’s smart, sweet, and sexy—an extremely appealing

combination. I just hope he’s not expecting more than I’m willing to offer.

Settling down is not an option right now.
