Chapter 37
***Ethan***
Fuck! How could I be so careless? I need to see how much
damage I did, which is why I’m on my way to her place right now. I need to be
more careful. What happened last night cannot happen again.
I remove my hat as I walk up her steps, then knock and nervously
wait for her to open the door.
“Sheriff, is something wrong?”
She’s still in her robe, and her hair is hanging in curls
around her face. This is exactly what she’ll look like when she wakes up next
to me. My dick twitches, longing to be lost inside her.
“Why would something be wrong?”
“It’s 8:00 a.m., and there’s a cop at my door. Plus, you’re
staring.”
“I just came to see you. And as for the staring… You’re
beautiful.”
She smiles and turns away in embarrassment.
“Come in. Would you like some coffee?”
“Thanks.”
She leads me to the kitchen, and I catch a glimpse of her
laptop on the counter. Smooth R every other woman would run in the
opposite direction, but she wants to make a wolf her pet. She’s the one. I
couldn’t be more convinced.
“Good morning, moonbeam,” her father says as he walks in.
“Good morning, Daddy. This is Sheriff McKenzie.”
I stand and extend my hand while she places a cup of coffee
on the counter for him.
“Ah, yes. We met, didn’t we?”
“Yes, sir. We did.”
“Is something wrong, Sheriff?”
“No, sir. I actually stopped by to ask your daughter to have
dinner with me.”
She turns sharply, her eyes shooting daggers at me.
“Well, don’t let me stop you.”
She turns the look on her father.
“Daddy! What happened to my overprotective, gun-toting
father who used to chase off all my boyfriends?”
“Well now, honey, it’s a little too late for that.” He picks
up his coffee and walks off, calling over his shoulder, “You can’t put the rain
back into the cloud.”
“Oh, my God!” she shrieks in mortification.
I throw my head back and laugh as she stands there
speechless for the first time since I met her.
“I can’t believe he said that!”
“Here I was thinking I was going to be your first.”
“Don’t you have criminals to catch?” she snaps.
“I guess that’s my cue to leave.”
“You guess right.”
“Eight?”
“I can’t. I’m working ’til ten.”
“I’ll pick you up after your shift.”
“Fine. I’ll get a ride with Jan.”
“I guess a good-bye kiss is out of the question?”
“Again, you guess right.”
She follows me back to the front door and proceeds to slam it
in my face. I chuckle as I make my way down the steps. I’m going to have my
hands full with this one.
