Chapter 49
***Ethan***
Even asleep, she gets my blood boiling. She’s curled up
under my arm, her breathing even. I swear I will annihilate anyone who tries to
hurt her. Pulling into her driveway, I see Clara standing by the door. I lift Casey
out of the truck, and she wraps her arms around my neck. She insisted on coming
home, even though I wanted her to stay the night.
“This way.”
“Thanks, Clara.”
She pulls back the covers on Casey’s bed and leaves the
room. I place her in the center and, as I tuck her in, she rolls over and
reaches for me. I sit and watch her sleep. She’s mine. I love her. Those two
statements now govern my existence. I just hope she will love me enough to
change her life for me. She sighs in contentment as I kiss her cheek.
“Good night, my love.”
I find Clara in the living room, sitting in the dark. I got
her this position for a reason. She’s the pack’s healer and spiritual guide; if
anyone can help Mr. Bryan, it’s her. Plus, she might be able to help Casey. She
won’t tell me what’s troubling her, but Clara has a way of getting through to
people.
“I like her,” she says in a quiet voice.
“Enough to accept her as your alpha?”
“She’s beautiful, smart, kind, strong, determined, and a
born leader—all the qualities you need. But beyond that, I can see your bond.
Never thought it possible with a human, but I see it. There’s an aura
surrounding you. It cannot be mistaken, neither can it be denied. You two will
be a force to be reckoned with.”
“Now can you tell that to the rest of the pack?”
“They won’t listen. You have to show them.”
She’s right. Once they see us together, they won’t be able
to deny our connection. They just need to see what I see.
“How’s it going with Luke?”
“Wonderful. I’ll have him back to normal in no time.”
“Good.”
Clara pats my shoulder and walks off. “Good night, Ethan.”
“Good night, Clara. Thank you.”
