Chapter 23 #2

She heard the drawer slide. Then a box opening, and a low hum. It sounded like he was testing it out, switching the motor between settings.

Having Chase naked in her bedroom, playing with her vibrator, was not something she’d ever thought she would experience.

The mattress shifted as he sat beside her. Chase’s lips pressed against hers, their kisses gradually deepening. His taste, his scent—everything was heightened.

Then the low hum started again. She felt gentle vibrations on her inner thigh, moving toward her center.

And this—this was even more unexpected.

She’d always thought of Chase as predictable. Yet since they’d gotten married, she was constantly surprised by the things he did.

Chase kissed her again as he moved the toy over her labia. It felt incredible. Ruby moaned into his mouth. He waited until she was writhing and wet before he brought it to her clit. She made a strangled sounding gasp.

“Right there,” she panted. “Just like that.”

It was so good. And so much better than doing this by herself.

Ruby widened her legs. Chase pushed the toy inside her opening. Fucked her with it. The blindfold took away any self-consciousness. She had no idea where he was looking or what expression was on his face, but she felt his erection rubbing against her hip, so clearly he was enjoying this.

Ruby tried wrapping her fingers around his length, but Chase loosened her grasp. “It’s not my turn yet. This is just for you.”

She grabbed hold of the blankets instead. Pleasure kept building and building inside of her. The stimulation of the vibrator was relentless, and she loved that it was out of her control.

“Chase,” she gasped, as the orgasm shook her body.

He pulled back the vibrator, then stroked it over her clit again. Another wave of pleasure rocketed through her. He kept up the motion, easing back before coaxing another shudder from her. It went on and on. Finally, her body had nothing left.

He kissed her temple. “Love it when you say my name when you come.”

“Ughn.” She’d forgotten how to speak. Ruby just breathed for a moment.

Her thumb hooked beneath the blindfold and lifted it. Chase had his head propped against his hand, looking at her. “Did you like that?”

“You lied. You’re not bad at all. You’re very, very good.”

“Funny how those words can mean almost the same thing.”

“When it comes to sex, maybe.” She took off the blindfold.

Chase set the vibrator on the mattress. “Watching you really does it for me. I’m not going to need much.”

“Let me.” Her head was fuzzy, like she was drunk, but she wanted to finish him.

Ruby bent over him and sucked his swollen cock into her mouth. She took as much as she could, grunting when his hips snapped, driving him deeper. Her cheeks hollowed around him.

“Ruby,” he hissed. “Fuck. I can’t hold back.”

His shaft pulsed and spurted into her throat. She swallowed down every drop of his release, sucking and licking him until he softened against her tongue.

Ruby flopped backward onto the pillows, wiping her lips. He smiled at her with hooded eyes. They snuggled together, and Ruby rested her head over his heart, listening to it beat against her ear.

“Why don’t you ever talk about your family?” she asked.

She knew he was from Riverside, a city in the Inland Empire about two hours away. Though it was hard to imagine Chase anywhere but West Oaks.

“Not much I wanted to share. It’s a downer.”

“But you know almost everything about my family, and I know so little about yours.”

He sighed, turning his head to face the ceiling. “My dad still lives in Riverside. He’s the principal of the high school I went to, which was so much fun whenever I got in trouble.”

“You got in trouble?”

“All the time. Told you I’m not perfect.”

“Tell me a good memory you have,” she said.

“I had a lot of sex in high school. That was pretty good.”

Ruby laughed and pushed his shoulder. “Wait a minute, are you saying Chase Collins was a bad boy? That kind of bad boy?”

“I skipped class and did stupid things. But I wasn’t cool enough to be Ruby Whitestone’s friend.”

“Oh, I wasn’t cool. Don’t believe what Devon says. I was artsy and angsty, but I was a virgin until college. You wouldn’t have been too interested.”

“Virgins were my favorite.”

Her eyes bugged. “Chase.”

“I’m kidding. Mostly.” Chase trailed his fingertips over her skin.

“Joining the Marines made me stop dicking around and take responsibility for myself. I realized trying to piss off my dad was just as pointless as trying to impress him. I still see him a few times a year, but I don’t let what he says get to me. ”

“Does your dad know we’re married?”

“God, no. He’d just lecture me, like he does about everything. And if I do file to adopt Haley—if that’s necessary—I don’t want him involved with her anyway. If I’m her dad, I don’t want to be anything like mine.”

“You won’t be. You’d be a great dad. And you’re a good man. Even if you’re not perfect.” The more she discovered his “imperfections,” the more she liked him.

“That’s what I’m going for.” He rolled to his side, holding her closer. “I know you’re worried about your case. But we’ll find a lead. I’m not going to give up.”

“Neither am I. When you go to Bailor Fitness to talk to Nora, I’m driving you. We’ll leave Haley with Mrs. Murtree.”

“Believe it or not, I can drive myself to Los Angeles.”

“But I want to be nearby. You said we’re a team. If you’re involved in the investigation, then so am I. Don’t argue with me.”

He kissed her forehead. “All right, you win. This time.”
