Chapter 13 Rain and Old Wounds
"I won't leave.
"Xin Xin, I'll stay right here until you change your mind."
Zhou Yang did not leave. He stubbornly insisted on staying at my place.
I ignored him.
Anyway, I had plenty of ways to make him go back.
Sure enough, before two hours had passed, he got a phone call.
When he hurried to the door, he still wanted to explain something to me.
At that moment I was sitting in the living room, composing on the piano keys of my tablet, and I did not give him a single glance.
In the end he said nothing. He only left in silence.
Not long after that day, Ruoyu found me too.
Because of her special status, she asked me to meet at a high-end restaurant not far from the county town.
On the way to see her, rain suddenly started to fall.
When I walked into the private room, a little rain clung to me, and my cheeks were red from the cold.
Ruoyu saw me, looked me over from head to toe first, then adjusted the luxury brand shawl on her shoulders and greeted me:
"You're here."
Even when I came closer, she never stood up.
She only told the waiter beside her to pull out a chair for me, told me to sit, and had them pour me a glass of water.
"Xin Xin, look at you. How could you not even bring an umbrella?
"You've already had a miscarriage, and you still make yourself look this pathetic. It hurts me just watching."
She deliberately tore open my old wound in front of me. While she spoke, she took a sip of tea.
She never lifted her head.
I held my temper and kept my calm. I answered her, "No need for a top star like you to trouble yourself.
"Speaking of my miscarriage, I really have you to thank for it. That day you just happened to fall off the Stunt Wire."
Some things, every time you look back on them, always leave you with a delayed sense of understanding.
Not long after Ruoyu returned to the country back then, I found out I was pregnant.
My cycle had never been stable to begin with, and at the time all my energy was on Zhou Yang. On top of that, I had always been thin and small.
By the time it was checked, the child was already close to four months.
I remembered that day. On the way to the hospital for the exam, Zhou Yang happily shared the news with Ruoyu.
On the other end of the phone, Ruoyu paused first, then laughed and congratulated me.
But the moment we reached the hospital entrance, Zhou Yang got a call from the crew.
They said Ruoyu had fallen off the Stunt Wire and had just been taken away by ambulance.
Zhou Yang looked frantic, rushing without a plan.
He put me out of the car. When he shut the door, he did not even notice that my scarf had been caught in it.
It was a snow day in Beicheng then.
When he hurriedly started the car and slammed down the gas, I did not even have time to warn him before I was pulled into a fall.
The scarf was torn from my neck bit by bit.
Zhou Yang's car only went farther and farther.
From what I could see, he never noticed me left far behind him.
Or the blood slowly seeping under my legs.
After I was wheeled out of the operating room, the first piece of news I saw
was the footage of Zhou Yang carrying Ruoyu, who had only sprained her foot, into a car from the hospital.
That was the first time I truly understood what it meant to hurt beyond living.
And it was in that moment that I began to realize this dream about Zhou Yang needed to end.
"But then again, I should thank you too. At least it meant Zhou Yang and I did not have one more bond, so the Divorce Agreement between him and me would be much simpler."
Her brows paused, then she smiled again. "Don't joke. I don't know about other people, but don't I know you?
"If you really wanted to divorce him, why would you send me this?"
She took out her phone, pulled up the chat record, and pushed it in front of me.
It was a photo I had sent Ruoyu.
That day, to make Zhou Yang leave, I had deliberately taken a picture of him sitting on my living room sofa, moved Ruoyu out of the blacklist, and sent it to her.
I knew Ruoyu would create some "accident" to make him go back.
And for Ruoyu, Zhou Yang would always come first. No exceptions.
Before I came, I already understood her intention—
she wanted to confirm whether I would truly divorce Zhou Yang.
I had heard that on that night, to come find me, Zhou Yang had stood her up for the first time.
And the photo I sent her only sharpened her sense of crisis.
Thinking of that, I suddenly felt that the calm composure in front of me looked like a deliberate act.
So I did not answer her question. I only looked straight at her with a faintly amused face.
"Xin Xin, do you know what I've hated most about you from then until now?"
Maybe she felt my gaze, or maybe she realized her thoughts had been seen through.
She suddenly looked up at me, her composure cracking.
"What I hate most is that look of yours—saying one thing and doing another, so hypocritical!
"If you really wanted to divorce him, you would have done it after the miscarriage. Why drag it all the way to now?"
